One thing I learned was make your bed every morning which will help fight depression and oppression. Also, I find great joy in going to church, meeting friends there and serving. By giving to others you get yourself off yourself and the focus is what can I do for someone else to make their day better.

I'm 63 years old and I found myself on my phone more than my grandchildren. I am an avid reader and had fell behind on my reading because I would wake in the morning and get on social media, mainly Facebook. I was staying depressed and unhappy. I stopped doing that and now I read all the time, lol and I might get on FB for 10 minutes every few days. I found I had to live and not care what was going on with everyone else.

I also live by the motto....I own my phone, it doesn't own me. I don't carry it around with me. It has a spot on the table it sits at home, and it stays in my purse if I'm out of the house. And I turn it off every night at 9 pm. I want to focus on my life around me, and not be ruled by a little black box. My mom and kids have special ring tones in case it's an emergency, and other than that I look at it on my time.

It's crazy that your video popped up today because I'm 35 disabled mentally and physically. I'm very unhealthy and I just got out of the hospital from neumonia. I know their are habits that I need to quit and replace with healthier and better for me things. Adulting is the hardest. I feel like I don't know what I'm doing constantly. Why don't they tell us how hard it is to be an actual adult. These things you mention will help me all. I know it isn't easy putting yourself out there like this but I truly am thankful for it and am proud of you. I can tell you are happy and it looks so good on you hunny.

Hi Brittnie. My son has the same struggles you describe. It IS hard. Everyday. We really try to focus on short time periods. And truly celebrate the successes! It helps him not to be so hard on himself. I hope as you continue getting up everyday and work at all you have to do things get easier. Remember it may be hard, but you've got this! @@amylynn9034 I'm going to be 62 and have many blessings in my life but still can't figure out what I'm doing. I find that when I get stuck I just force myself to the first "RIGHT" thing that I need to to push myself in the right direction.... Even simple things 0- like say you feel like taking a nap and it's a gorgeous day but as soon as you lie down you feel like a loser because you should be enjoying the day...well that makes you even more depressed. So ask yourself what is the one RIGHT thing I can do now to walk on the right path - maybe it's just going outside - maybe it's throwing a load of wash in or cleaning up your kitchen.. if you just do the RIGHT thing at that moment it will catapault you into continue doing right things. I hope that helps sweetie and God Bless you...

Right now my life has done a total 180! My 91 year old bed bound on hospice Mom In Law moved in. We have given up our bedroom and bed and do her total care. We also are pretty much raising our 4 year old Granddaughter that I take care of. So self care right now is locking the bathroom door so I can go potty without interruption. I am trying to figure a routine that works for me but that is my struggle right now 😒

Look for assisted care services. There are some lower income ones too. If you can get someone to come in 1-2 times a week to give you a few hours break that will be a big help to let you leave for a walk, go shopping or library or get mani/pedi. Or just visit a friend.

Sara Jane, your message is just what I needed to hear today. In the past seven years, I lost two of my best friends and my mother. I'm a single 62 year old woman and trying to develop close relationships has been extremely difficult - especially after the pandemic. I went from working in an office of 100+ people to working from home. I've become a real hermit these days and rarely go out of the house anymore. Starting Monday, I'm going to follow your suggestions and start getting back out there. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and providing some much needed encouragement. ❤️

I hear you! I'm 74 retired now, but I moved 500 miles from my friends and hair clients to start all over, to be closer to my daughters. I have really made any friends--i talk to two women who live in my building and the next building--but that's only if we are all outside. Living on SS and not interacting with the public everyday is different and at times boring!!

Thank you Sara Jane for your words of wisdom. I have already unfriendly many toxic people on my social media and yes, I am much happier when I do go on. I have tried to keep it to 3 days per week and I only post positive comments and my own shares. As for exercising, well I have to get back to doing that. I live in southeastern Idaho and we just had the winter that would never end. I couldn't go walking because of the slippery ice that formed on EVERYTHING, but now this week I am working on getting my butt up and moving again. Another thing that makes me happy is my sewing, quilting, and crafting. I moved in with my daughter and her family and want to work on that again so I am looking for a she shed that I can afford to put onto her property and work in there with peace and quiet, and my music. Oh, don't forget the balanced healthy diet, that really helps to change depression. No chemicals or preservatives those are toxins that attract your body and make most sluggish. Again thank you for this video, I needed it today!

The social media thing is so important to take control over. The only social media I have anymore is KZbin. I used to have Facebook and Instagram and in 2020 during the pandemic people were just going over the top on so many levels. It became too much mentally. From having gone on purges in the past I decided to go off for good from both. I did and haven’t looked back! It’s been great mentally. The exercise I need to get back into for sure! Thanks for sharing! Great advice. I’ve been decluttering my house & it it has felt so good. I’ve been doing more cleaning. A little bit everyday instead of all of it in one day. It has cut my stress level beyond half. One big change for me has been loving me no matter what. I’ve always been very hard on myself & I am so happy without doing that. The main change I’ve made that has literally turned my life around is reading my Bible & spending time with God everyday. First thing everyday. That’s how I start my day. Best decision ever.

My husband and I do something almost every single weekend and we're both really enjoying it. Life can't just only consist of work, so tired or not, we make ourselves get out there. Examples of things we do: go to horse shows(even though we know nothing about horses. They're just pretty. Lol), go to a town in our state we've never been to and have dinner, go to the local lake and rent kayaks for a few hours, we love Las Vegas and San Diego so we'll run over to vegas and watch a show or take a whale watching cruise in San Diego. We also buy year round tix for sea world. On the more affordable side, we'll go to the woods, pitch a tent and play UNO all night and eat sandwiches. Life is what you make it.

Omg! I wish I found this sooner. You touched on several things I was experiencing. I did a few things you mentioned. At 53, It surprises me how much social media brought me down. I only see it in doses. Friendships I thought I had. I realized sometimes they will either always be there, or just for a short period of time for a lesson, or maybe to push me in a different direction, but always “try” to be grateful/ understand. Music, I forgot about it in the routine…I turned it back on, and find myself dancing in the kitchen, while doing chores, sometimes in the halls at work. My patients love it and dance with me, wheel chairs and all. Work is tough, but found and remind myself not to speak about a problem in the workplace without a solution. Changed my life at home too. But… need to work on the physical part. One thing at a time… thank you for this clip❤

I have felt the same way about social media for a LONG time. I do not have FB anymore , don't watch alot of websites I used to (was spending too much, getting depressed, thinking those things and being like other people would make me happy). I also live in tiny apt. and it gets cluttered so fast, THAT makes me very depressed when I can't clean due to my health. I have kept a Blessings Journal for 26 yrs. now. After an extremely painful life changing time, I realized I would HAVE to write down God's goodness and care for me, to recognize and thank Him for it. Good video, thanks.

❤the habits. I sit in front of my light 💡 box for about an hour in the morning and it really helps get me on track with my sleep, with battling depression, and getting a starting point for making a daily routine. I’m from NC as well - welcome home!❤
