The adage is 'Buy Once'. Whether it's clothes or furniture, art or accessories, buy the very best that you can afford at the time. I also encouraged my clients to buy bigger in accessories and art rather than having all these small items everywhere. And clean? YES! Tidy? YES! What a difference that makes in even the most basic of homes! Never underestimate clean and fresh!

My mother always apologized for the state of her spotless home. I am presently moving and found your videos as I was looking for the few pieces of furniture I needed. One such piece is a couch. Of course the showroom lighting isn't great for choosing colors and patterns, and cost is a part of each decision. I chose a couch that felt comfortable, both as seating and for the pocketbook (it was over 50%off). As I was making my decision, I realized that the color and pattern of the upholstery fabric is actually quite similar to the padding on my antique rocker (which I paid $10 for about 35 years ago). I very much enjoy your videos, because you inspire me with you common sense, tasteful advice. As for something I'm jealous of in friends' homes? I can't say that I get jealous, but I do see things that inspire me. Landscaping is usually what is most likely to elicit a bit of envy.

My 103 year old home has a front porch. My neighbor said she's jealous of us having it. She has a brand new home. Why not get one with a porch? Our home is definitely our own...from our curved walkway to our huge kitchen which used to be a dining room. Our home isn't spotless, but it is clean. Having pets makes keeping a home clean difficult, you know that. I pick up daily. My husband made our mailbox. It looks like a miniature version of our home. We rarely have visitors. When we do, people always comment about the handmade furniture my husband makes. I'm trying to get him to build furniture to sell. You make me feel great about our home. I ❤️ you for that! I'm not jealous of anybody. I'm working to hard to get what I want. I'm invariably happy for them.

Agree! Had a beautiful handmade library card file at work office. Fortunately I caught the coworker trying to remove it and put in her car. I am in the process of gutting our main bath but I am hesitating to finish until inspiration hits me. It's been 3 years!!! I am trying to change our matchy matchy main bedroom into something more reflective of who we are. I have a dated backsplash in my kitchen and I hate my cabinets, they are thermofoil! I have matching furniture in my study and I despise it. You always remind me that it's more important that I do what is good for us, not rush and buy the matchy matchy stuff again just to be finished and then like everyone else. I am not a follower in all other aspects of my life yet I was watching the influencers and leaning toward those choices but I have come to my senses thanks to you! Love the pups too!!!

We have an old 1800s wood washing machine with ringer I use in our entryway as a display table for seasonal florals so as soon as people walk in there’s a conversation piece. Our home was built in 1856 so I’ve procured some very beautiful antiques to scatter throughout our home to bring in beauty from the timeline of the home. My favorite piece is an antique Victrola hand crank record player in our livingroom, we had a professional come and fix the speakers so the sound is absolutely beautiful and puts you right in the middle of the 1920s and 30s 🖤

When asked, I tell them "I got this at a flea market in Paris/London/Prague, etc". That then leads into talks about travel - food, people, history, etc. It's not valuable but reminds me of an enjoyable trip. Regarding cleanliness, oh yes. But it depends on the room. In my living room, bathroom, dining and kitchen, those are spotless. But in the den where I read, I have no problem with a newspaper or magazine lying about.

I loved this video Garrett ! You are so right about having antiques or special pieces of furniture opposed to buying lots of cheap ones. I have a couple of unique things like that, that friends like them, but at the same token they wish they could also find something like that too. You are the best ! Thank you always for the great decorating tips only you know 😍

I just love you and your advice. If I had $1 for every time someone came over and said, "Let me smell the flowers on this bookshelf."😆 Thanks for taking away the guilt from a few faux plants!

One of your best videos yet! We have several inherited antique pieces in our small, naturally dark, small living room in the Southern California desert! Shocking in the desert, I know, where light furniture rules, but what do you want, we’re from Illinois, from whence the pieces came! As you say, great topics of conversation, even among family members. ❤

Glad it was helpful! One thing you can count on is that there will always be positivity and useful information in my videos, and not just chatter or telling anyone how bad their style would be if they don't do this or that. I'm here to help, and not just push a narrative or judge.

Thank you for your expert advice, I love your style and of course your sense of humor! I would say that whenever I feel a pang of jealousy it’s because I think that other person has a greater understanding of themselves and they are able to translate it into a unique setting. That’s when I say to myself,why didn’t I think of that!
@GarrettLeChic2 жыл бұрын
You see that’s what I’m talking about. You turn that feeling into a positive and reflect about what another person did right, and it gets you thinking about what you can do to work toward your decorating goals. You got my message so clear. Gold stars to you! Thanks so much.✨✨✨✨✨

Lollll cheekiness at its best. Good Morning Garrett, Thank you for the session of the day. The most important tips laid so artistically and beautifully. Yes clean, tidy, organised homes are my go to attraction. I feel every house the minute you step in tells you a story or leads you to an imagination and of course the guess work:) I reckon the moment you step into the entrance of anyone’s house, you start weaving a story and you already have a picture of who they are and what they are by the time you are in their living room. It might not be always right but I guess HOMES are stories even if you are just walking past any. You have a wonderful day ahead!! The schools start here after the summer vacay and now I can for sure watch you uninterrupted with my mug of coffee, love that for me❤

Garret, I love how you personalize everything, not like some other KZbinrs…”must incorporate black” 😮 I love to thrift for vintage pieces to include with the contemporary furnishings, vintage pieces are way better quality. Can’t wait til the next episode 🥰

Yay! I finally subscribed! I LOVE your channel (and not just because I agree with everything you say :-) You are so right, creating a home that’s a reflection of you and those you live with rather than just what’s on trend results in a lovely home full of heart that visitors will appreciate whether their personal tastes differ from yours or not. And it needn't take a lot of money! We are fortunate to receive guests who kindly rave about our decorating style (a mix of antiques and quality modern pieces) but almost everything was bought for a song at garage sales or thrift stores. So much more fun, much better for the environment (in more ways than one) as well as the pocketbook, and you end up with long-lasting pieces that fit pretty much any style that's in vogue at the moment. Combine that with the LeChic very sound, generous advice and poof! you've got a home that's always a welcome respite from the world. So THANK YOU, Garrett!
