Supposedly Trotsky fought his assassin after being stabbed in the head with the ice pick (that had gone 7 cm into his brain), spat on him, and the struggle ended up breaking Mercader's hand. Even after his bodyguards came in after hearing the struggle and beat Mercader, Trotsky told them not to kill him so that he could "answer questions". Trotsky held on to his life for one more day. He was 60. Say what you will about Trotsky but that is kind of badass.

Obligatory clarification regarding people named "Gandhi": The two Indian Prime Ministers featured in this video - *Indira Gandhi* (assassinated in 1984) and her son *Rajiv Gandhi* (assassinated in 1991)-are not related to the more famous *Mohandas Karamchand "Mahatma" Gandhi,* who was assassinated in 1948. I remember Kennedy's assassination like it was just yesterday. I was in 6th grade and the principal came into our classroom during the last period and announced that he had been shot. After school, as we were boarded onto the school buses to go home, the principal went from bus to bus to announce that Kennedy had died. When I got home, my mother was crying and watching the news. Then for some 40 days (don't remember exactly), there was nothing on TV, but news about the slaying.

One of the more famous assassinations was of the Bulgarian journalist and communist dissident Georgi Markov in 1978. Just like Litvinenko, he was poisoned by an operative in London, only not with radioactive Polonium, but a small bullet covered with Ricin, fired from the infamous Umbrella gun. Another case is that of Lyudmila Zhivkova, daughter of the Bulgarian communist dictator Todor Zhivkov. She wasn't a dissident, but, as a culture minister, she realised several projects which became symbol of Bulgarian patriotism (like the 1300th anniversary of the establishment of our state in 1981), as well as some which were supposed to unite people all over the world (including Western nations). Her speeches included mentions of a divine force. Naturally, this did not sit well with KGB, who saw her as Zhivkov's heir. To them, she committed violations to the Communist doctrine (there is no God, no countries should have any forms of patriotism), hence, a few months after the celebrations, Lyudmila Zhivkova was poisoned to death by her own bodyguard who turned out to be a KGB operative.

Jo Cox murderer was just a crazy guy - he was not what they portrayed of him. He didn't represent any group or idea. Just so you know - the people of Northern Ireland voted overwhelmingly to remain part of the UK. This is why the British defended their wishes. Thank goodness things are quieter.
