For my friends across the pond, Cabrini Green, the ghetto in Candyman, has become completely gentrified and turned into condos, much like the plans in the film. It's pretty spot on.

@@ChaosWept just on a brief inventory, I’d say fostering an environment that’s friendly to business and industry would be a good start. My family manufactures hardwood flooring and various hardwood finish trim in rural Virginia but we don’t have the people to grow, the inner city has the people but the taxes and regulations are completely untenable. My grandfather tried to buy property in Richmond, Baltimore ect to build a factory on a few different occasions over the last 4 decades and it was simply impossible

No, when you got to the content "Idiocracy" actually aged terribly, and shows it. While the anti-illectualism and anti-consumerism bit might be relevant, the film is moored by its pretty strong classist and eugenics contents, particularly the distaste toward the moronic working classes and the idea that they would detriment the planet by reproducing unchecked rather than curating our genes. The film treats ignorance as a natural state of the lower classes, rather than anti-intellectualism being deliberately piloted by the wealthy, and the pilot of anti-intellectual movements having a high education themselves. One easily draws comparisons to trump, but looking closely at 2016 and Project 2025 actually reveals that trump's inability limited the scope of the damage he could do (don't get me wrong, it was still terrible), while now they plan to have him surrounded by knowledgeable staff that can manipulate the system to actually make use of the power. In the end, "Idiocracy" represents the failure of the left to build actual alternative rhetoric to the right, and instead buying in its classist arguments which end up disenfranchising the people and making them susceptible to right-wing propaganda.

For someone's first dive into the horror genre, I wouldn't want them to go Too hard out of the gate. I'd suggest "Thir13en Ghosts" (2001), or "An American Werewolf in London" (1981) both have enough levity to soothe the unease, but still offer genuinely disturbing moments as well.

@@caseydumoulin5859 I'll go ahead and leave this here for you: Fascism: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation (see: America First! America First!) and often race (See: "There were good people... on both sides." and "Oh, Nick Fuentes? Sure, let's break bread!") above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government (See: Project 2025) headed by a dictatorial leader (See: "I'll be a dictator on day one!"), severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition (See: Lock Her Up!") Fun fact: Autos in Greek means "same" or "self", so in an autocratic government all the power is held by the leader him- or herself. Autocratic governments are often called dictatorships, or sometimes autocracies.(See: Project... ah, you know what I mean). And for kicks: A dictator: one ruling in an absolute and often oppressive way. (See: Stripping of rights...protections...choice...etc... ) Here's the fun part... in a Democratic Republic, you get to vote for whomever you want. It's dictators that tell you... "only vote this time... 'cause afterward, you won't need to vote ever again... 'cause we'll fix it." Who'da thought Idiocracy would predict the future like the Simpsons... and be the scariest one of them all.

The economy booming, compensation up, unemployment down, healthcare access up. So what is MAGA going to do? Insult people who don't have kids? Rail against the Olympics, despite the opening ceremony not even being about Christianity? Go after gay and trans people because they have nothing to deal with actual problems, and have to make people angry about cultural politics Dems in charge barely pay lip service to? More taxcuts to the rich... ok, that one's real. And Gorsuch wants to reduce regulations again, which is totally the main thing regular people are worried about. Certainly never causes any issues, except for it always causing very real issues. But the left is certainly all about hate. Liking hating Project 2025. Which the right can distance themselves from all they want, but is in fact being pushed by people with influence on the right, with the former pres clearly being in support of some of it's ideas, as he recently discussed on a private plane with one of it's authors. They don't care about life, which has nothing to do with wanting women to have bodily autonomy, while also supporting things like expanding children and womens healthcare, childcare, access to bc, comprehensive education (because abstinence only doesn't work), not being poisoned by corps that would rather use their taxcuts to buyback stock after becoming monopolies instead of cleaning their factories they pushed laws to let young people work in, and for people to be able to actually afford to have kids, hoping they aren't shot. Guns being their #1 killer. So much hatred... I mean seriously, do YOU have any concept what the political culture here is?

You call it cancel culture and woke culture.... yet do you realize the ones doing it the most are the ones that follow Trump. Kind of sad that you do not realize that the ones doing cancel culture is the Trump lovers. Trampling on beer companies, grocery stores and the list goes on and on and on. All because people like you want to erase the LGBTQ community, people who care about people more than guns, people who value people of various races. But that's what you do..... you whine about woke culture and cancel people/business who recognize others cause of your so called cristian beliefs. When did god start telling us to hate others for their choices so on and so forth. So gratz on weaponizing the word of god makes me sad for you not that you care as hateful as a whole as you are.

Excellent list! And to those that are complaining about divisive political commentary here, WC didn’t demonize anyone here. (You’re showing your own sensitivity if you think they did.) Also, yes, horror is supposed to hold up a mirror to modern day (or timeless) strife and division. That’s why some horror movies were made pointing out both sides of the Red Scare, racial integration, and religious fanaticism, for example. Also know that as society becomes increasingly divisive and satirical, these films become more prescient. That’s just how history and media criticism goes.
