The Truman Show’s ending is darker than it seems. Truman may have left the dome and entered the real world, but he is still the most recognizable person on Earth. He will never have a normal life. He will be followed and photographed and hounded everywhere he goes. The only money he can make is from either writing books and doing interviews about the world he just escaped, or by suing the makers of his show for what he would be owed both from profits and them robbing him of a real life. The mental toll the experience would have on Truman is likely to cause severe anxiety, depression and possibly suicide.
@heathermillsphantomlimb93147 ай бұрын
He’d have Sylvia, though. She could help him acclimate to the real world. He’d also be able to afford private security and isolate himself as much as possible, since he’d be entitled to any royalties and residuals made from the show. In reality, the creators and actors in the show would’ve been arrested ten times over for kidnapping, false imprisonment, and impersonating law enforcement officers. There’s so much wrong legally in that movie that it wouldn’t be possible to ever pull off. But, a trained monkey would be able to win Truman enough money to never have to work again and go anywhere on earth he wanted. He’d definitely have a lot of hurdles to jump through, but there’s worse ways to live.

I will add Bruce Willis' movie "Surrogates." At the end of the movie, his character deactivates all the surrogates, so that "people will be forced to leave their homes and interact in person." Except that most adults have surrogates doing their jobs. So, all the planes being flown by surrogate plots will crash, as will all the trains and busses, including school busses full of children, because child surrogates are illegal, so kids don't have them to go to school in their place. Also, all emergency vehicles will stop, including ambulances taking human patients to the hospital. Speaking of hospitals, all the surrogate doctors working on human patients will stop mid-operation. Even those surrogates that stop without causing deaths will be an issue, as the roads will be filled with an endless traffic jam of vehicles whose drivers stopped. It will take months to clear them out, during which time no food will be delivered, emergency services will be unable to respond, and utilities will be unable to be run. In addition, all the surrogate police and soldiers will shut down, leaving their weapons and other hardware easy pickings for criminals who either cannot afford a surrogate, or don't have one to avoid being traced, as well as enemy troops and terrorists getting their hands on advances US weapons. So, Bruce's character basically shut down human civilization because he felt lonely.

Doesn't even have to be a crucial or dangerous job - just the amount of people driving on the highways or through neighborhoods that suddenly couldn't control their vehicles for several minutes would be disastrous on a large scale alone, and that would be on top of the crucial and dangerous jobs that would cause even more disaster.

In 2012 there is absolutely nothing saying that other humans and animals survived. Parts of Africa were not really damaged.

The ending to The Usual Suspects is actually really stupid if you think about it because the whole movie was to conceal his identity but then it’s revealed to the police in the end anyway despite his narrow temporary escape.

Since you asked my favourite Shyamalan film is The Village. It gets a lot of flack but I don’t really understand why. The “Night Twist” was the only one I genuinely didn’t see coming and it’s one of a few films that uses jump scares well. The acting, framing and cinematography in his films are always top notch. He’s clearly never going to be Hitchcock, who he’s clearly emulating, but you can’t say he shoots a film badly. His success/fail rate is probably about 1.5 in 10 but when he does land it he does in a big way. Unbreakable and The Village are good films. The rest are either disposable, nonsense, or insultingly bad (or all of the above). But all of his films do look good (except The Last Airbender and After Earth, that look like shit. I haven’t checked IMDb to see whether he changed cinematographer or anything but even if he didn’t that guy was having a bad day on those)

I hate 2012 with a burning passion. The film failed to convince me that I should root for the main family specifically while the entire world died (and most other survivors would be rich jerks). There was nothing special, interesting or compelling about the leads, and it was just about their survival. Contrast that to the same director's Independence Day. There we have multiple arcs to follow, those characters are charismatic, they come from different backgrounds, and while they are also trying to survive, they are trying to get others to survive as well. And because those people are inspirational, we care about them, we root for them. Even in The Day After Tomorroy, which is not a good film by any measure, we see the leads invested in doing good. 2012 is too grim and cynical for such a dumb movie. If it's about the lava, the waves and the absurd stunts, then make it fun. Leave the darkness for those who know how to properly convey it (hey, I love Melancholia).
@otakonjunkie7 ай бұрын
We didn't really see anything bad happen to Africa in 2012. The series it was based on heavily implied that it was, for whatever reason, basically okay. And that the people on the arcs were going to have to deal with them.

Independence Day: Yay, we defeated the aliens. All the major cities in every part of the world - gone (if not burned to a crisp they lay flattened under a humongous alien saucer). Hundreds of millions, probably billions of people - gone. Most of mankinds cultural achievements (arts, architecture, historical buildings, historical documents etc.) - gone. The political structure to organize the time after defeating the aliens - gone. The economic base to rebuild - gone. That's not how I envision a victory.

I just finished watching "Trick or Treat" (1982). Joan gets off scot free for sending Malcolm to an insane asylum just to start a relationship with another man. Her son, Christopher, is a spoiled brat who faces no accountability for his actions. On top of that, he'll probably get away with killing Linda because he used the original killer's knife and the police wouldn't be able to establish a motive for this murder. He probably also wouldn't be stupid enough to leave the knife handle unwiped afterwards. The killer was an enraged Malcolm who was actually insane but we have no way of knowing if he was insane before being sent to the insane asylum.

Let's pretend that the 900 Land Before Time sequels don't exist. I'm sure a lot of us would like to. They make it to the great valley and live happily ever after. Except that their carefree childhoods are over. Their entire lives before that were filled with starvation and destruction, something was always trying to kill them, and then they just straight up murdered Sharptooth. Nobody is going to just forget that. Also, what relationship did they have with Ducky after using her as bait and almost getting her killed? That must have been awkward.
