I really hope you're not implying that a woman walking around in western clothing is "asking for it". A woman should wear what she wants and not have to cover if that isn't her thing. MEN need to be taught better, women don't have to get smaller.
@elo2626x2 жыл бұрын
In most cases, she really "does not ask for it" but "leads to it", when a man looks at a woman's body, that look generates an effect, often a sexual desire, which is translated in the form of sexual harassment, if a woman wants to reduce this occurrence, she must cover up The same, and men should control themselves and take their eyes off women if they feel sexual. For real Edit: I mean that a woman should be able to wear whatever she wants to wear and feel safe at the same time, regardles of her clothes. Oh and the comments prove that some of you never learned respect. I'm a bisexual woman and if i'm able to control myself around other women, why wouldn't men be able to do that? There is a big difference between realising that someone looks pretty/sexy/whatever and actually harrasing them, catcalling them, assaulting them. @@SmithpollyI think you misinterpreted and as someone who used to dress inappropriately I’d like to clear it up for you. Like they said, hijab is quite literally like wearing headphones. You know when you have it on, very rarely someone will bother you because they know you’re focused on something else. Personally I am wayyyy more comfortable in modesty than I ever was with my free will of choosing to “wear whatever I want”. I am uncomfortable if I am not covered enough and I make an active choice everyday to layer because I take comfort in it.

@@thebronxbarbies Do you wear a burka?
@thebronxbarbies Жыл бұрын
@@Smithpolly no I don’t wear a burqa and neither is the woman in the video wearing a burka. A burka is a veil that has a mesh screen or just complete cloth over the eyes. I usually wear niqab which is the face mask I’m wearing in my profile picture, it covers your entire cheeks, nose, lips, chin, and chest and depending the model of fabric, if it’s a full niqab itll cover your eyebrows and only your eyes will be visible but they also sell just the half niqab which shows your eyes, eyebrows and forehead. I’m a pharmacy technician and customer service is a big part of my job so I don’t wear it at work instead I opt for a COVID mask. I typically would wear niqab on my public commute to work but with the rise of Islamophobia unfortunately people don’t like to see niqab so I’ve been sticking to a COVID mask for my own privacy.

That's not nice, women should be respected. I am not a feminist but I don't like it when men are harassing women like that. It's very rude and revolting to see this happening. Admiring a woman's beauty is one thing if you're going on your own way and not physically bothering her. But following and/or cat calling women like this is way out of line, it's sexual harassment.
@nikkinorman42548 жыл бұрын
+GHW you're actually wrong. Feminists want equal rights as men.. he didn't equal under the law, because women actually do have equal rights of the law . Feminists support women working, getting equal pay as men, having intense muscles without being judged. They want women to be just as equal as men. I actually respect what this kid is saying, I agree that women shouldn't be catcalled and treated with more respect. That's a good thing.

@miabambina71768 жыл бұрын
+Nikki Kirby women do get equal pay. The problem is women tend to not work as many hours as men and are more likely to go on leaves. The pay gap only account for the money made by men and women in general. It does not account for any real reasoning as to why one is lower than the other. However if you were to account these factors women and men actually do get paid equally. In fact women in the eyes of the law are completely equal and in many cases are seen as better than men. Cat calling is just an annoying thing men do to try and get some girls attention it's no big deal.

@ryugawagablablabla24529 жыл бұрын

I asked a few of my male friends about this video and they all said one thing: when they see a woman with a hijab they assume she's married, which to men translates that she's someone's property which they can respect. This explains why more often than not if you say you have a boyfriend some men will let you go, it's not because you're not available, it's because they have more respect for the man you're dating and they don't want to come off as threatening someone else's territory.

I know that, you know that, but that is the common perception among my male friends. because we cant control all ppl on earth and we dont have the ryt to, we cant fix the problem so we are avoiding it. and i guess because its human nature to feel sexual both from men and women.who chooses not to be sexually affected from ppl they dont know, chooses to cover. but if you like to express your beauty its up to you of course but alot will be hitting on you girl and imagine things.
@nadiamurray83698 жыл бұрын
What type of logic is that? A person shouldn't be accounted for another person's actions. People should just learn that if someone tells you that they don't feel comfortable with you hitting on them you stop. If someone tells you that their not comfortable with anything your doing you stop. It doesn't matter what type of 'message' the person may give off. It's like me telling some guy "hey don't walk around with your collarbones and neck showing, some man might decide to come here and rape you in the ass."
@medmusiclover10 жыл бұрын
So now I cannot wear a fitted t-shirt and jeans because men can't control themselves?! I've seen men running in NYC just wearing shorts and no woman made a comment.Of course people looked, but no one was disrespectful. I'm not saying girls should go around in bikinis, but come on! She's fully covered, she's not even showing cleavage! This video just shows the double standards. You men can go around however you want, but we need to be modest! I would suggest that people educated their kids, so they won't grow up to be disrespectful towards others. Please think better about your content, instead of trying to tell women be modest (which she was in the beginning already), tell men to control their penises.
@salmakhairallah249310 жыл бұрын
you know....men in general ..... dont like obvious things a girl with tight clothing covers her whole body would turn them on more than a girl wearing a bikini...men like to discover...they like to work hard for things...that is why an easy girl would satify them for...say a week..but they wont think about her again...and also that is why a man like to feel that his wife unpredictable...he likes to discover new things about her every day.
@medmusiclover10 жыл бұрын
Salma khairallah Well, that doesn't excuse them to make those kinds of comments and to follow a girl that stated she wasn't interested. Just because I wear form-fitting clothes it means I'm "easy"?! If that happens, then it should happen to men too, and women should also reject them based on it. But we don't do it, you shouldn't judge a person so harshly just by the clothes they wear. And even if the girl is "easy", from the moment she says "no", the guy should've respected that.
@reecehoward684810 жыл бұрын
I hate it when people use the term "men" when discussing issues of female inequality, especially in the context that you have. Yes, there is a problem and yes, it needs addressing, but its not all men on the planet that "can't control themselves". It's the same with this whole thing that kicked off a little while ago about the nail polish that changed colour when it came into contact with drugs that a man might use to rape a woman. It was designed by people who recognise this as a problem and wanted to create a way to avoid it happening - and then a lot of feminists started repeated this whole "I shouldn't have to test my drink with special nail varnish to check for drugs" argument - no one is saying that you should! the simple fact of the matter is that it will protect you better from those that would attempt to rape you. It's the same as not locking your door when leaving the house because people shouldn't be breaking in in the first place - everyone knows that the person who breaks into/robs your house is in the wrong 100% of the time, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't take steps towards protecting yourself from it occurring. Believe it or not there isn't some sort of general consensus amongst men that the burden lies with women to protect themselves because we think that you should be victimised or bullied or harassed or raped or abused or whatever else might happen. In fact, a lot of us support the right to your total equality as much as you do - but you need to recognise that just as much there will always always be thieves that want to break into your house, there will always be people that want to abuse you and rape you and those people do not represent the male thoughts on the matter whatsoever.

Reece Howard I know I'm generalizing by saying "men", but I know not all think like that. Many respect women and also want equality from both sides. When I write I already have a lot to say, so I start cutting words. The way I wrote it, it seems like I hate men, but I don't, I'm talking about this video in particular and the type of men portrayed in it. You're also right in that part that we should protect ourselves, but also we should start providing better education and parents should teach their kids that judging someone by their appearance is wrong. We all do it, but you don't need to make any comments or be rude like some of these guys were...

This is definitely an interesting social experiment. I think we need to be thoughtful about the conclusions we draw from it, though. I'm seeing a lot of comments I disagree with. The conclusion is NOT that women *should* dress more conservatively. It is equally moral to dress conservatively or not conservatively. This does not define worth or a woman's right to safety. Her Hijab helped hide her from the eyes of potential harassers, which is interesting. But it doesn't mean those harassers learned anything or changed. The root of the problem is still there. To solve the root of the problem of street harassment, we must teach our children- our boys particularly- right versus wrong. We have to teach boys that it's inappropriate to harass women. That's the root of this issue.
@Scimitars-in-sandstone2 жыл бұрын
Well and eloquently put. Thank you for being so though with your wording. I also thought that the experiment was interesting and was glad that it was simply presented rather than given a definitive conclusion. Open’s up an interesting discussion.

@@bimmer.joo34 I have never known any women to be happy that they're being harassed. Maybe you're projecting what you want to see onto the situation, and drawing inaccurate conclusions. There's a BIG difference between street harassment/catcalling versus appropriate flirting in a proper atmosphere. Flirting can be ok if you're a decent respectful human about it. Shouting at women in the street is alarming, NOT flirting, and not OK. Consider asking your female friends or family members how they feel about street harassment. You can hear firsthand how they feel rather than making guesses.

@@aidanbanjo The root of the problem will remain. This has always been the reality right from the very begining. This entire experiment actually proves a verse in the Quran to be true. @aidanbanjo2 жыл бұрын
@@kakarote100 I disagree. Your statement basically excuses men by saying that harassment is in their nature. Men are not just animals. Humans have the ability and responsibility to treat each other with respect, men included. I'm going to ask you to take some more personal responsibility for how you act, and how you treat women,. The Quran is a religious text. I don't want to offend you, but it's not a source of truth to me. You'll need to prove your point properly, with logic and reasoning. The Quran also says you can beat your wife, which is, of course, unethical. You can't pick and choose what you like from it.

nope the moral of the story is that people will generalize all men because of a few isolated incidents in which assholes showed up. honestly this pretty fucked up because people can't understand that in every gender, ethnicity, or religion (or lack of religion) there are assholes and nothing can change that. people, mostly feminist, take this as an opportunity to misconstru thr situation and somehow come to the shit conclusion that all men are like that, or even the majority which is simply not true.

This video sort of proves that if a woman dressed more modestly, she won't get harassed. If she dresses in tight shirts and tight pants that show off her curves and are meant to be attractive, she will likely get harassed and "attract" attention. Women don't want to dress more modestly but that is the solution to their problems. Can't have your cake and eat it too...you can't dress attractive and not be harassed/acknowleged for it from time to time. If women don't care enough to dress a little more modestly or take precautions then I can't possibly take this seriously.

A person doesn't deserve to be raped. Regardless of what they wear. A child doesn't deserve to be made fun of if they wear something different. Nobody deserves to be harrassed or solicited unwelcome abuse. The people in the video being rude and abusive are the ones in the wrong. Imagine being harassed like that everyday, regardless of what you wear. Covering her up is not why men are not calling her, they are all still stareing at her. They are afraid of her because they do not understand her. That is just as rude. It is up to all of us to be in control of ourselves. If you rob a bank you can't say to the judge, "oh but it was so tempting and looked nice". Temptation is all around us, we must use moderation and judgement.
@KateLibby5558 жыл бұрын
I get the point of the video but I totally disagree with the message it's sending. It's suggesting that women are to blame for the sexual harassment they experience due to the way the dress. That is blatant victim blaming. Putting on a hijab is like a putting a band-aid on the problem instead of addressing the problem itself which is the behaviour of the men. If the hijab did stop women from being sexually harassed then instances of rape, violent assault and harassment wouldn't be as rife as it is in countries where the hijab is commonplace. And yes these crimes also occur in western countries but that is exactly my point; that it doesn't matter what a women wears she is still susceptible to unwanted sexual harassment. All this video does is pass the blame of sexual harassment onto the women instead of addressing the actual problem which is the unacceptable and anti-social behaviour of men who harass women in the street. We don't blame victims for crimes, we blame criminals. Let's do the same when it comes to men harassing women on the street.
@stgodless8 жыл бұрын
you saved me a lot of typing...totally agree! This video only proves that it's men who need to change their behavior, not women who need to change how they dress.
@mamedaliyev66968 жыл бұрын
you got a good point but still the solution of this problem needs two sided approach. men should change their behavior cuz you're right it's totally disrespectful towards women and nobody would like to live in such a community, after all we all have mothers and sisters. but you know what leads to such a behavior actually is a wild instinct coming from deep inside. men have to learn how to control this instinct, but wouldn't it be better if women helped them by covering themselves up. it is kind of selfish to barely wear anything and then blame men for all that harassment. what i mean is both men and women should strive for a peaceful community. that's the only way to get it.
@KateLibby5558 жыл бұрын
mamed aliyev I have to disagree because you are putting the responsibility of men's behaviour on women. Sexual instincts are no greater a force than any of the other instincts we have so it is a misconception that male sexual instinct is such a strong force that men are incapable of controlling it. Men who act on their sexual instinct do so because society has taught them that it's socially acceptable to act on it. We have many instincts but we refrain from acting on them like stealing, hitting people in anger, killing or even speaking to your boss inappropriately because we are taught that acting on these instincts is not socially acceptable. If women are in part responsible for men sexually harassing women then that's like saying, it's ok to steal someone's car if they leave the door unlocked. Or it's ok to kill someone if they provoke you. That is not the way the law works. Controlling your actions is your responsibility, not someone else's. Again, sexual instinct is no greater force than any of the other instincts we have. If men can control their other instincts then there is absolutely no reason why they cannot control their sexual instincts also. Instead of blaming women, men need to take responsibility for their actions and start teaching their sons that it is not socially acceptable to act on their sexual instincts to strangers in public place.

This is like saying that men harassing women is women's fault. Teach your sons how to treat women with respect, regardless of what they wear, that's the real issue. Otherwise, it's like trying to cover the sun with a finger.

@Alebal767 жыл бұрын
With all respect, covering is not locking, you lock with principles and education, not with fabric. If it is supposed to be something practical, why a 50 yrs old woman uses black full hijab in Disney World? while her husband is in t-shirt and shorts, why a 9 yrs old uses hijab in the elementary school? (I have witnessed both cases) are they going to be cat called there? or maybe raped? if the latter, rapes happen with or without cover in every country, thus, re-read my first comment. I.e. My daughters use shorts when they practice sports, but not when they go in the subway. If you want and are proud to use hijab, that's up to you and I respect it, but let's not pretend that it is "the" solution and that its only purpose is women protection, the big truth is other. Take care, cheers!

he means that women that wear hijab doesn't get that kind of stuff said to them cause thats the reason they wear there hijab so no men would say that to them as a type of cover up to basically not show how there body looks or hair since thats what atracts some men cause even in the video not all men said something but some did so there body image makes some of them say that kind of stuff.

Hijab represents oppression of women in countries like Afganistan and Pakistan and many Arabic muslim countries for that matter.
@sairajaved69039 жыл бұрын
Quin Kel how do you think of the hijab being oppressive? I honestly don't get it as I am a muslim living in the UK and wearing a hijab since I was 21. And starting to wear the hijab bought me honestly no negative changes. My friends and family didn't restrict me in any way since my appearance changed but it caused the opposite effect with my parents being less worried and concerned for my safety when I leave the house every morning. But you did mention 'countries like pakistan, Afghanistan etc' and yes in those countries women do live a difficult live with little protection offered to them from the government resulting in them having to protect themself as much as they can themself. And what's the best way to avoid trouble? To go unnoticed! How do you do that? My making yourself unnoticeable! So women in third world countries are not oppressed by wearing the hijab but by the poor state of their government and economy which places the fittest and strongest at the top of the food chain, which physically assessed are mainly males who pray on the weaker ones(unfortunately women and children). The hijab is just one mean of protection available to them. And the actual meaning which was also the reason I started wearing the hijab is to show devotion, respect and love to god. a very handy and convenient bonus of the hijab, also is that you get overlooked by the usual pervs and spared from having to listen to annoying pick up lines. So what I wanted to bring across to you with this long ass comment (sorry about that) is that the hijab doesn't make us women feel weaker or inferior to men, but it brings us the respect of others, a sense of constant security &strength and a HUGE boost of self-esteem!

At first I thought. Well all of us should buy an hijab. But it's our body. No one deserves to be catcalled , no matter what they wear. Catcalling is disrespectful. With anyone disagreeing , imagine your mom or sister going through it. Its horrible. Hijab or no hijab , just stop the problem. The catcallers. The horrible men. Not the victims. I have no problem with the girls wearing hijab.

i love this, i’m not muslim but i decided to try it out. I bought my first hijabs last year because i love modesty. I have always admired hijabis and their way of dressing. I noticed people do treat me differently in hijab than when i was wearing regular clothes. I do get dirty stares every now and then but overall it has mostly been a positive experience for me. This year i started wearing abayas & khimar and sometimes half niqab as well. And ahh i feel like a literal princess 💖 👑 I noticed more men lowered their gaze and i don’t get bothered anymore. More people open doors for me and are very polite and respectful. I’m so relieved i have not been harassed or anything because i know some sisters unfortunately do experience that. ): Honestly i am very happy with my choice of becoming more modest. i feel more happier and safer this way. ♥️💫

I'm so glad you were willing to trying it out for yourself. I'm also a non-moslim woman, who's wearing an hijab (tulband style) for almost 4 years. And last year in the summer, I went to full abaya as well. I've never encountered any form of harassment since wearing a headcovering and abaya. I live in The Netherlands 🇳🇱, and I'm still happy with my decision. And I'm not going to change my mind soon. I wish every woman would experience the freedom of 'looks' and 'cat calls'. And the feeling of a princess. And the respectful guesture from others, because they sense a 'Look me in the eye, not at my a$$'-attitude.

Wow! The men in NY are disgusting if this is true. Women should be able to wear what ever she wants without this kind of behavior. It's disgusting that a woman has to be covered from head to toe to get treated with respect. Shame on these men. This is illegal in England. A man can be charged here. Men on building sites aren't even aloud to whistle to girls without losing their jobs, some kind of legal action or being charged with sexual harassment.
