Andrea’s masterpiece. I don’t remember this being shown in ‘83 (I also missed the original ‘77 screening). I caught up with it much later, on a video box set, when it was re-released. It is every bit as good as the first series and that’s saying something! Really great acting and direction etc and the script is magnificent. They don’t make them like this anymore.

I saw the first series when it first aired. It was a seminal show for me as a young boy, full of subject matter that was new and challenging and exciting to me. I'm not sure I ever saw the follow up, but I have since bought the original series on DVD, and it still holds up, barring a couple of ropey/ham actors in minor roles. The main actors are stellar, though. Definitely one of the best British dramas ever made
