The Wraith was the sort of movie for which Mystery Science Theater 3000 was created. Cheesy and fun. The Dodge M4S was a badass car. To achieve nearly 200 mph with a Chrysler 2.2 turbo in the mid 80's was impressive, and now I know why it had a transverse engine that limited it to 194. Cool video.

The story leading up to the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie car is fascinating even if one does not care for the movie it’s self. There were actually three or four Chittys thst were built for post WWI racing and powered by surplus military aero engines. The first car established speed records. Ian Fleming appeared to have known the builder when he was a kid, and his novel of the same name described a somewhat different Paragon Panther. The Ford-built movie car supposedly was capable of 100 mph. Another couple of Hollywood vehicles would be James Rockford ‘s Firebird(s) and his father Rocky’s GMC street coupe. I’m sure there are more cars to feature but you’ve nailed the most iconic standouts that I can think of.

I saw the Wraith in the theater when first released. We were desperate for a car movie. This movie gave me an idea to ask a girl named Carrie out.. we were married two years later. Hey, I thought the W.P. Chrysler museum was closed down... we went there in January 2006

Man, the filming of the car, and movie was quite "Steven J. Cannell-ish" cheesy. Film speed trickery - but they blew lots of stuff up, huge explosions - Certainly could argue that McLaren took inspiration building the "Speedtail" .... but no way they'd even acknowledge they knew of the Dodge existence.
