Happy Ramble Day folks! We have a road trip coming up in July and I'm starting to think about what sorts of projects I'd like to take along. Here are ten options that I think would make great road trip knitting projects. Drop your own suggestions in the comments! PS: Watch to the end. 😎 PPS: You may not think shawls are portable, but I feel like these ones mentioned here are, sooo yes. 😌 The Ravlery Bundle for these patterns favorites is linked in the description, but you can also find them here: www.ravelry.com/bundles/road-trip-knits Help support the work that I'm doing here at the WNH channel by picking up something fun from the Merch shop: www.woolneedleshands.com/merch Enjoy! ❤ #knitting #knittingpodcast

Usually crochet on travel projects, so I don't drop needles, stitches, or stab the person next to me...😂❤

Ah! Making me want to make all the things. Not a shawl person either, but finding myself wanting something cozy for the chilly Bay Area mornings, instead of a hoodie or lap blanket while at my desk.

Great ideas! I haven't had socks on needles for over 2 months ... a bit of withdrawal is setting in so this is a good reminder. On car trips I frequently crochet dish clothes because I don't have to watch what I'm doing - BTW I'm in the passenger seat. Lol.

Definitely brought a blanket on a trip before and got some weird looks lol. My favorite recently have been knit tanks, especially the one skein ones for some stash busting!

So so SO love this one! While I don't do "road trips" per se, I am a travel nurse, and I have to be uber-picky about what I pack. There's only so much room in my car! For a 13-week contract, I always want a project, but there have been a couple I regret because oy! the yarn, the tools, etc. And, when traveling, there's always the not-so-fun surprises like losing a tool, or spilling a beverage on my project. Thank you, Tayler! I'm scouring Ravelry, and keeping some of your suggestions in my favorites

Timely video! I am getting ready for a road trip and decided to cast on a summer tank. The Breeze Racerback by Jessie Mead Designs is calling my name! I am going to break it up by having another project in my bag, the Amma Granny Square top. I like to have projects with different size needles (or in this case a hook change up) so if my hands get tired I can work on something else.

Thank you for all the inspiration! Planning for travel projects is always tricky- not too complicated, portable, quick but not too quick. I usually pick mitten/fingerless mitts patterns since they are small.

Hi Tayler. I’m about to head off in the caravan for 5 months so seriously on the look for road trip patterns. I will be crocheting the Sundance Throw but I clicked on the Easwas hat and then fell down the Kate Davies Designs rabbit hole. just gorgeous!! I have some bulky yarn so will also be making the Carbeth Cardigan. Thanks heaps. ❤❤

If I'm on a road trip, I'm driving. So I knit when flying. I cast-on on the train to the airport, then work on the plane, and as time allows on my journey. I have two suggestions for bandanas/scarves. Both are free patterns on Ravelry and are adjustable for size. You can use pretty much any yarns. One is 22 Little Clouds by Martina Behm, the other is Close to You by Justyna Lorkowska. I've knit both of them multiple times.

I’m starting the beeswax hat for my plane trip tomorrow. It has cables but they can be done without cable needles and the instructions for doing so are written right into the pattern.

All About Ami has a lot her patterns for free on her blog! I find that you can preview the entire pattern before purchase, or if you don’t mind ads, the free version is great! I worked up one of her headbands as one of my first ever finished knits for my grandma for Christmas last year.

Great Ramble post! Really feeling that baby blanket and the 2 shawls. I think it was during Covid lockdown that I did some shawl knitting--Hitchhiker by Martina Behm, Hipster by Joji Locatelli, Peak District Shawl--a custom pattern from some yarn my Mom picked up in England as a souvenir for me and somewhere I have a Casapinka shawl on the needles. Great ideas for road trips. Thanks for sharing!

I'm so excited that you picked the Hollows shawl. I just knit it a few months ago and I really did enjoy it. If you look at the project pages, mine is one of the few knit in multiple colors. I liked the curves of the shawl that reminded me of water so it was the perfect project for beach themed yarn box that I'd bought from one of my favorite dyers. I had six 50 gram skeins and I came up short on the last section, but I worked it out.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I love how you put them in a bundle. One of my favorite road trip projects is the Antarkis shawl by Janina Kallio. It’s just one skein of fingering weight yarn so it doesn’t take up a lot of space. Long circular needles don’t get dropped and lost in car crevices. The three stitch patterns are easy but change often enough to be interesting. I also see you have Joji Locatelli’s Lightweight Hipster in the bundle. That was also fun, and has many of the same qualities as the Antarkis, but I wouldn’t do the fringe in the car! It does have a garter tab start, which I find fiddly, so I might get that part started at home where I’m not getting interrupted a bunch. Mine turned out smaller than the pattern said, so I wish I had had a second skein, but I loved doing the cross-cross part and it came out really cute.
