I think the function of reactor is to generate electricity for the ship, while the engines uses the electricity made by reactor to create kinetic energy (movement)

People die most often in electrical because there’s a wall behind to hide bodies, a vent, possible killing of a guy in a stack because of sabotaging lights, closing door in electrical and killing then venting. Also lots of people just go there for whatever reason.
