Some cool suggestions: - How to mute string noise while shredding - How to dial the perfect shred tone - How to start recording guitar (some things to know before trying it)

@Astral_Wave
@Astral_Wave 3 жыл бұрын
I'm certainly no expert. As far as tone, neck humbucker (or single too) and a mid scoop is a start. Lot of gain or compression. A noise gate would help with a tiny bit of the noise but if used too generously it'll kill decay of notes when you do decide to let one sing. REVERB and or short delay. Neon color guitars and clothes are a plus. Hairspray. Do you have long hair? If so, make sure that shit is blowing with a fan. Dress like a musketeer if possible. Other than that, like all things, take it slow, be patient and consistent and ignore most of whatever I typed. ✌
@Astral_Wave
@Astral_Wave 3 жыл бұрын
@@JakeTillman is certainly a balancing act of muting with both hands without killing the notes you want to hear. 😑 (I think Jason Richardson has a video about it here on yt. He's clean)

What an excellent lesson. It all made sense and was very easy to grasp. 40 years ago I was a "level 10" guitarist, playing in Greenwich Village and having a blast. Unfortunately, I was a level 10-addict as were many of my friends. I dropped out of the music scene in '82 so I could have a chance at getting clean and subsequently live. Finally, I succeeded in '85 and have stayed clean ever since. But a casualty of this process was my guitar playing. By the late '80s my chops had begun to atrophy and within 10 years I was unrecognizable as a musician. It was a very difficult transition, but a no-brainer considering the alternative (everyone I used to know has long since died...and what a shame that is). I've recently toyed with the idea of getting some of my skills back. I'm going to follow your plan and see what happens. Thanks so much for such a concise and effective video!🙏

Great video, thank you. So many videos out there with people shredding at 'level 10' then yapping for 30 minutes about the pentatonic scale, or something. This breaks it down to a practical idea of how that progress looks, and what you are listening to when people dance across the fretboard at blitzing speed. THANK YOU!

Just discovered you today man , only a few hours ago ! And here you are with just the kind of vid I needed . I started learning in 2010 and it was all mainly acoustic guitar songs with some singing . While I truly love the acoustic my heart's urge for an electric made me pick up one soon in 2012 . Learned some fav riffs , picking patterns but since I have always been so passionate about shred players like Zakk , Dime , Gus , Yngwie , Jason , Paul Gilbert you know the list goes on and on , I started trying really hard to get closer to the kind of speed I love, listening to . By the next year my work schedule became intense and at the same time I became so frustrated with my fretting hand , I just gave it up eventually . Finally picked it up again in 2021 Jan to build it up slowly and patiently . I'd say I would be around level 4-5 , any faster my picking hand goes , my fretting hand is unable to keep up ! But I am trying again , after all these years 🙂

My personal nemesis is are two-fold. One is staying relaxed. As I speed up, I tense up. Also keeping my thumb from creeping up over the top of the neck as I get higher up the neck. Both seem to happen without me even being aware and both KILL proper execution.

I'm on 6 my self, I'm really just working on slowly increasing the speed. 5-10 min is normally how long it takes for me to to move to the next speed. although right now I cant do anything cleanly across all the strings much past about 110bpm. I can already sweep and my chord transitions arent terrible. I've even done a lot of studying of music theory practicing scales modes progressions cadence etc. I feel like studing theory and song composition really help you get the most out of practice because you start connecting dots at the same time.

I picked up sweep picking, took me about a week to get comfortable with six string sweeps. I think killing or muting the previous string is the real challenge for me. I’ll roll right through sweeps, then I’ll end up not positioning my fingers correctly and I’ll have two notes going off. I’ll get good eventually.
