I stopped around level 6-7, though it could be argued I’m ready for 8!

Amazing your progression! Amazing sightseeing with such a beautiful musicality! And the "give-up" despite the fact you are a professional, gives some hope to non professionals to keep on striving for improvement! Cello playing is so hard, why do we keep on loving it? This is why I ask myself regularly...

Self taught at 1,5 years now, I play most of that. I do not sound as good as you though obviously. And I'm not playing the full pieces on the bigger pieces like #9 Hyden and just like you played is about where I stop too, and I do that on several of the old classical famous pieces to get variation of styles to practise and make it more fun. I practise about 5 days a week and 1,5-2h/day when I'm at it the most, sometimes I take a little more rest in between.

@@IliaLaporevcellist So far I've been quite serious about it, joined an ensemble this year to help keep me "motivated" even if I'm not 😜 That forces me into doing some things I may not have done on my own as self taught and also learn to play with others and coordinate with people that also makes mistakes cause that can be really challenging. But my biggest motivation is all the ones on the FB groups saying you can't learn cello on your own, so I'm on a mission to prove them wrong and see how far I can get without a single lesson 😁

Nice Selection! I have always found Popper's gavotte from book 7 to be quite more challenging than Saint Saens allegro moderato

Thank you for stopping by! Yes, Popper Gavotte No. 2 is perhaps more delicate and refined than Saint-Saëns. But a great piece to develop particular bow strokes!

Thank you! But of course, it becomes easier when you play for 25 years of cello. Besides, some pieces I have played long long time ago, but don’t remember them well. Haydn (book 9) got me very well, no way to cheat. Thank you for stopping by!
