Great tips! My couple of tips to go off a couple of yours: 1. Find the suppressor for the socom pistol. It will definitely help to take enemies out at a distance without risking detection. (Hint: Tank hanger after first boss fight) 2. When going up to an enemy to perform a CQC action, be cautious not to unintentionally touch them before performing the action, to avoid an alert phase (very common mistake I’ve seen, and one I struggled with myself). Find the sweet spot and allow Snake to magnetize himself to the enemy’s back when you press the command.

I think one of the most important tips, like he said, is USE YOUR CODEC! Be sure to listen to the full conversations and not skip any cutscenes or codec calls, as the codec is there not only to nudge you in the right direction, but provide combat tips and help with every little thing.

I wanna add to that "sweet spot" concept. If you're unsure whether or not you're there, punch them a couple of times because that will get Snake just a bit closer to them, which means you can grab them much more consistently. It's what speedrunners do.

A tip I'll give a newcomer is to stockpile stun grenades so you have enough to use to get to the roof of the Comms Tower. That's the easiest and fastest way to clear the area instead of unloading with the FAMAS.

My tips are as follows: 1. Save, save save! If you get the feeling things are about to ramp up don't take chances, call Mei Ling and save your game. 2: Thermal Goggles. The thermal goggles are possibly the most useful item in the entire game. You will need to explore the second floor of the Tank Hanger to find them but you should be able to locate them without too much issue, it's absolutely worth it to get them as soon as possible and will make lots of the harder parts easier to deal with. 3. Use your codec. If you're lost, confused on what to do next, or having trouble with a boss fight call your support team. Colonel, Master, and Otacon tend to be the ones with the most helpful advice. 4. Think outside the box. Metal Gear Solid is a game that often affords you several options to solve problems. If you're current idea isn't working try a different approach. 5. Explore the area. You'll find lots of optional yet helpful items if you take some time to explore your environment. A suppressor for your pistol, night vision goggles, some cold medicine, you never know what you might find.

1. Alternatively, keep calling her without saving. Mei Ling gets mad. xD On serious note there's one place in the game CONTINUE doesn't work so saving is needed. Less continues in general the higher your rank so SAVE. 2. TBH, you miss a bunch of lore on smoking and mine detector if you replace them with thermals... And equipping cigs to pass lasers and calling Nastasha is top MGS moment! 3. 141.52 is her frequency. Call it. EVERY item or weapon in the game has her fawning over tech including fixation on Stingers same way modern day Ukrainians who name their cats Javelin or Bayraktar have on new weapons. 4. Actually, think INSIDE the box! There's many things you can do with four pieces of cardboard, though their main use is fast travel and hiding. 5. IIRC the two medicines ingame are Diazepam, which you pop to steady your aim for sniper rifle, and whatever it's called which you might use to avoid sneezing after spending some times shirtless.

1. A kinda fun trick that I always loved is after you acquire the Bandana, fire your FAMAS down to the last 3 bullets, which are tracer rounds. Then equip the Bandana and all your rounds will be tracer rounds, giving you a Star Wars blaster feel. Especially fun for the Comms Tower shootout. 2. When fighting Psycho Mantis bring up the special Pause menu (R1+L1 or RB+LB) and switch your controller to slot 2 so he can't read your moves. 3. Chase Meryl into the bathroom fast enough to see the cutscene with her in her undies. 4. When you have both the Bandana and the Stealth Camo, on a 3rd+ playthrough do not use either one until Grey Fox appears and he will have a red cybersuit. 5. Equip the cigarettes before calling people on the CODEC to get reprimanded about smoking. Also, call Mei Ling repeatedly but don't save for a cute Easter egg.

1. Do the bad end first. Give up during torture this locks you into that. This gives you Stealth item on New Game+, which is THE best way to learn enemy behaviors and can trivialize the next playthrough if you want to get the other ending. Plus, the banter in bad end is just better, more character development between Snake and Otacon. 2. Actually play the VR missions DISC, or on PC, separate mode. It lets you learn using every weapon type and lots of moves in multiple situations with only stake being your high score in mini-missions. Plus, there's three (tiny) ninja levels (in the same room but hey). 3. Backtrack to B2 and B1 floors once you get new card level, it combines with their tip 7, though on first playthrough missing the thermal googles when going to find Merryl might give you a better experience, having to use cigs for lasers and mine detector for the minefield. 4. Experiment with weapons for later bosses. Second fights with Vulcan Raven and Sniper Wolf have tons of ways to defeat them, not just the logical weapons, Stinger AND Nikita missiles work, in addition to sniper rifle, landmines and whatnot. 5. Call people on codec whenever you feel like, and when you think situation is unusual. I.e. in restrooms or any new area in general. They often have humorous responses to a lot of things, and MGS1 has the most (and arguably, the best) team of contacts. 6. Also find Nastasha Romanenko, Colonel gives you her codec code 141.52. She's ENTIRELY optional, but has comments on EVERY item and weapon in the game. If Campbell is good for where you need to go to advance the story, and Ocelot gives you lore, she is the best one to call for gameplay. 7. Screw around with stuff. Best part of Metal Gear is "devs thought of everything" situation, applies to all games. Try shooting rats or punching Merryl, using cardboard box near wolves etc., camera abuse is nice too. You aren't really getting the full MGS experience if you just do obligatory gameplay stuff, though any playstyle is valid, you're missing out. 8. Crawling into vents, look down to see Meryll working out. Go ALL the way back to previous room, climb back in, and see her do another exercise. Do that multiple times. Related to that, ladies room? Don't look around, just blast through to the end. Enjoy the polygons! 9. You can cook grenades. Careful they do explode in your hands and YES, even chaff and stun grenades WILL hurt you if exploded that way. 10. PC version is on GOG, it's actually a proper port and not emulated. I like it for collection and I just love having games that don't have polygon wobble. Though it needs fan patches to fix low quality sound in originals.

My tip would be to use the throw as much as you can and realize it doesn't break stealth (Just dont bump into them, that timing is important). You don't have to kill or knock them out, instead just throw and run away. Its more like aggressive stealth techniques. You can run, throw, and keep running and the guard wont sent off the alarm even through he was attacked. This saved my ass so many times when I was getting pinned by two guards. Instead of trying to shoot your way out, just bum rush them from behind, throw, and get out of there.

I played originall mgs on my pc. It was pain to play, I gave up after second volcan raven fight, some people say I survivived quite long. @@PerfectStealth I didn't mind camera movement at all, I think it matches mgs gameplay very well, however the controlls were the thing that pushed me from the game the most. I was playing pn normal, I died a lot but I like hard games. When I got to second encounter with sniper wolf I couldn't shoot her because my scope would rest all the time. Eventually I defeated her with Nikita. Also at first saving was problematic. I was used to saving manually via pause menu, mainly because of my former half life experience and I'm sure I'm not only one who did that.I hope master collection won't dissapoint me and I will enjoy this legendary franchise.

Played through MGS 1 all the way to the end with the final fight against Metal Gear, only for my PS3 to freeze and brick completely. Was able to get a new one, but my save of MGS 1 was completely gone. Hoping with the master collection I can finally finish this game, especially with some of the tips shown here.

A very useful technique to learn is the "Stagger Punch". Space out your button tappings when doing the punch-punch-kick combo so that you pause until the punch animation is almost complete for the second punch then do another punch-punch. If you're really good, you can even stagger it out to spam your first "punch" over and over. This technique will make the Melee fight with Liquid near the end a lot easier as you can stun lock him.

A good tip is IF you have to go back to the initial section for some reason later in the game... get in the truck with your cardboard box A, they'll drive you to the heliport. If you need to go back? Cardboard Box B in the truck on the heliport. Sometimes this game will put random traps on places there were none a few minutes ago... Also, some floors make noise. Bypass this by spamming equip and unequip on your weapon and you will glide through them at full speed with no sound. If you happen to encounter angry animals later on... they're very defensive of people they love. If you happen to see them care about someone a little more than you, maybe punch that person and equip your box. They might choose to pee on your box making you smell like them and removing their agression towards an outsider

It's also possible in MGS2 tho buttons get weirder. On PC, you want a fan patch to move while aiming in first person there. The worst part of Metal Gear controls is aiming weirdness that later relied on pressure sensitive PS2/3 gamepads.

My favorite tips are the rapid reload, the elevator trick, using the box to quickly travel around the map, and sneaking up behind an enemy and strapping C4 to his back so I can detonate it while he's next to another soldier.

I think a good tip for 1 and 2 is to use your map to get intel on the enemy's vision and their walking patterns. That way you know what kind of movement you can get away with to slip past them. If there is no map, check your corners and wall peek everything

I just started playing the Legacy Collection on PS3 recently, and here is a tip in case you need it. You can destroy cameras with the stinger missles...I found that out by accident because I ran out of Chaff grenades after the Hind D battle. Neat tip if you don't have the chaff option 🙂. After meeting someone in the codec and having a lengthy conversation save your game, otherwise if you die the game will not remember the conversation. I've seen a lot of people completely ignore certain characters because they don't appear in the Codec drop down menu, because of untimely deaths.

My only tip, just have fun with it. You're going to mess up occasionally. But some of the most awesome stuff I discovered about this game was by goofing off. I mean don't go full DSP goofy. Never do that. But always pay attention to your location and use common sense. This applies to all MGS games.

1. Take a moment to observe guard movements 2. If a boss has a vision cone, they have a blind spot to exploit 3. If there are claymore mines, collect them! They are extremely useful in one of the later boss battles 4. If you want to have some fun, plant c4 on a guard

Also with the famas, you can start by pressing the duck button then while ducking press the duck button a second time but hold on to the button. Now you can run and shoot the famas while holding the duck button.

I came to check this video just because of nostalgia I have played Mgs 1 about +-15 one hundred times but Mgs 2 about 200 times then Mgs3 less than 50 times (I find this with last missions the hardest also) then Mgs 4 about 80 times and mgs 5 phantom pain is STILL on progress even when I have had since ps4 and now playing it again with ps5 but it feels most not mgs but I don’t recall that “MGS survive” even as a part of the series but Phantom pain feels still good but has missing something but now I will finally finish that playthrough before Mgs Delta comes and saman I wish Konami will not destroy a remake which has huge potential as a remake. But thanks for the video I agree with you 100% with you😊👍👍👍👍💯. I hope collection vol.2 includes peace walker and guns of the patriots and guns of the patriots deserve same kind remake as snake eater (my opinion). :)

@@TBrizzle01 basically, if they're in the way of guards patrol, they will knock them over, and if they're on alert, they will check them out. Otherwise, boxes are great to avoid being seen. AS in, you move into area then STOP when enemy or camera passes by and you're within their field of vision, then move again. This is actually how first box (in original MSX Metal Gear) was used. TO move through area that doesn't have a way to walk around the camera (they move in a line there).

a tip i would give anyone is this. when you are running on noisy platforms, rapidly equip and unequip any weapon, i use the Socom, while moving. this negates the noise you make on those platforms, making it so the enemies cannot hear you.

i would tell them that they should equip and unequip a weapon when walking on terrain that makes a loud noise so snakes walking animation gets reset not causing any sound at all.

If you keep tapping r1 to requip your weapon whilst walking it makes your footsteps silent to the enemy

I just played through MGS1 for the first time. Though I am a long time MGS fan now, my first experience was Twin Snakes when it came out. There’s definitely some changes. Avoiding alert wasn’t the biggest deal once I got used to moving around again, but some of the bosses were a bit obnoxious. Ocelot in particular. I definitely still prefer Twin Snakes, but I did enjoy this game.

There is a room in the game where you are not allowed to us guns, but you can still use the sniper rifle before crawling into the room

Don't forget the SOCOM (mk. 23/USP) In the back of the truck at the Heliport, also the SOCOM suppressor is in the 2nd floor north(?)east section of the Tank Hangar. The room with the weird boxes. And AHAHA HOLY FUCK I just got to that point in the video. Great operators think alike

One of the most frustrating things is that it is really easy to accidentally throw enemies instead of choking them if you don't let off the direction controls early enough in a tight spot :D It happens to me all the time even though I know the mechanic as it is easy to mess up in a heated situation :D

i think im the only person that has beaten the mgs 1 ( nomal dif ) and mgs 2 ( nomal dif ) on pc with only keybords😂😂 i dont have console and i dont have plastion hands ( because i dont have money ) but it was a hard journey and i have to use my brain all the time and remeber the boss moves to defeat them now im gonna play mgs 3 but it wont open and idk why ?😢

I seem to remember a mechanic where choking out a soldier without them having been alerted made it more likely they would drop an item... Am I misremembering? Or was that a thing in MGS2?

1:47 as a new fan playing through the series for the first time i don't agree with this sentiment, i find MGS3 on Normal to be way harder than 2 and 1 on Normal because of how intricate guards Ai are they can look up and down etc. But hey to each their own

I always found the first metal gear solid game to be the easiest. I also played the game a crap ton as a kid so that might be why.

TIP: During the torture sequence, don't use your thumb to mash the button. Use the knuckle of your finger instead, especially if you're playing on hard or extreme!

The game already has a built in fail safe for this, and just requires you to die once, and you can have a codec conversation that says “Is there some reason you can’t use controller port 2?, if that’s the case do this”.

Hold L1 L2 R1 R2 and then there is a option to change controller port to port 2 during the fight with mantis is the only time it will work

Yea true. I have a piece of paper that has the briefings videos in order. When I was a kid I sat and watch the ending times of each tape and wrote them all down in order. Still have the original piece of paper in my mgs1 case
