10 Minute Makeup, Face, Lips, Hooded Eyes, Women, Mature over 50

Watch Heather show her less than 10 minute makeup routine in this tutorial showing tips for face foundation, under eye and spot concealers, blush, lips, contouring, eyebrows, eye make-up especially for those women with hooded, droopy or downturn eyes, blush and other beauty applications in this video. Although this vlog was made as a GRWM ( get ready with me ) for mature over 50 women, it is also is a great how to tutorial for techniques for a woman in her 20s, 30s or 40s who wants a quick natural look make up. Heather is a former 80s model who has learned from makeup artists and drugstore counters on some great lipsticks, foundations, bronzers, mascaras and eye shadows.

So much content out there is geared toward younger women, I'm always thrilled when I find a great channel geared toward us women over 50. I am 53, and starting to see the effects of age -- grey hair starting to come in, droopy lids, changing mid section, and what's with these Nixon jowls? I love your tips! I am almost 54 and am just trying out makeup again. I’ve always worn lip color, but only sporadically tried eye makeup a few times over the years. And foundation, I’ve never had good luck with. I have the hooded eyes, and I’ve been applying the eye shadows the way you do and it really makes a huge difference. Thank you! Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know how things are going for you. If you want to try a lighter foundation use a powder/foundation blend. It usually comes in a compact and most brands have it. It goes on super light and still covers up blemishes and spots. It also glides on in half the time as a liquid foundation. I loved your video as well as your positive attitude and sense of humor. One thing that was pointed out to me a while ago was blending foundation down and over your chin so you don't look as though you're either wearing a mask or are a two-toned person. You look great and you have the best thing which is a good disposition and don't sweat the small stuff.

I hope you try a little bit here and there in makeup just to enhance your features. Instead of a liquid foundation though I would suggest a powder/foundation mixture that usually comes in a compact (most makeup manufacturers have them) It's a much lighter application than the liquid foundation. A little lipstick, cover-up, blush and eye makeup will probably enhance your natural features, I know it does for me anyway, Heather

Your personality is so charming! Love the look you achieve. You mention the shadow for hooded eyes. My eyes became more hooded and recently I had an assessment at my eye doctor appointment. My vision was obscured enough that my health coverage approved the surgery. I was astonished at just how much my vision was obscured, I truly believe it accounted for a couple of near misses while driving. I would encourage anyone that has hooded eyes to address this concern with their eye doctor and see if there is some remedy. I hope this helps someone...

Since I've gotten older and my eyelids have gotten more 'crapey', I've been putting eye shadow on my lids only, usually just one color, sometimes lining with a darker color. I tried your method and was really pleased with the results! Thanks!

It's amazing the difference brows make. I used to have thick ones, but as I've grown older, they've become very sparse, and I use powder and a small brush to color them in. Every once in a while, I'll forget to do them, and I'll look at myself in the mirror before I go out, and think, "What the heck is wrong with that face?" And of course, it's the missing brows. They really do make a huge difference. Not exaggerated or really dark, but they need to be there. A face needs them! Your face came alive when you did your brows.

Hi Vicky, I am lucky since I don't have facial hair. Are you talking about the random hairs that come out as we age or darker facial hair. My daughter has darker facial hair and she bleaches it. I would never suggest shaving it. If I did start getting the random hairs I would probably get rid of it the old fashioned way as I do with my unruly eyebrows and that would be by plucking them out with tweezers. I would probably do this just before bed with no makeup on so that makeup won't seep into the spot and cause a blemish. I can't say anything about the lasers or other techniques since I haven't tried them but I would still just pluck them. I would also use aloe vera cream to keep them from becoming a blemish and I would put that on them the next morning, Hope this helps, Heather

Thanks so much for the encouraging comment Shirley. I haven't done a skin care video because I've been working on my new jowls (arghh) and the cream I've been using has made may skin break out. I should have a skincare routine video out in the next few months (once |I am assured no one else will break out in blemishes). In the meantime, I have used skin care cream with collagen in it since I was 18. I have tried many different ones but right now I'm using L'oreal, Hope that helps, Heather

I also wear MAC (cosmetic company) SPF 50 primer under my makeup. Maybe between the SPF primer and a thicker face foundation it might give you the protection you need. Hope this helps.

Eyeliner on lower lid is good but try no mascara on lower lids. It draws attention to under eye wrinkles. Just a suggestion. I started doing it that way and get comments on my eyes because of it.

Awesome Over Fifty, Heather, I use an eyelash curler prior to applying mascara. It makes my lashes much more visible and upright. Have you tried it?

I have one and sometimes use it for a gala or big event instead of false eyelashes. For everyday though I don't. Personally I don't want to pull on my lashes everyday in case I start losing them like my eyebrows.

@@lovingourage, I found that as long as I don't use tension low on my lashes and also keep the curler clean, my lashes won't pull out. That wasn't always the case, and I had to give up mascara altogether for years because I had lost so many lashes. Now I use coconut oil to remove my mascara, it's very gentle.

Re another type of anti-shine, if you're interested...I use Eminence skin care & they make "red currant mattifying mist." Works as a toner & then if you get shiny or heavy feeling (and I hate heavy + I live in Florida so...) you just spritz it on anytime.

I just turned 60 and my skin has changed alot. My face is so dry and I have red spots and some age spots. It's almost getting to the point that I'm using concealer almost on my whole face. For moisturizer when I get out of the shower and my face is still damp I use a tiny bit of almond oil and then on top of that I use Lubriderm. That's what I use for moisturizer under all my makeup but do you have any recommendations or should I just use concealer practically on my whole face? Thank you

I would see a dermatologist if I were you. Concealer will not help whatever is making your face red. I would also use a makeup primer that's made for the face instead of what you're using. It's also possible that the products you're using are having a negative affect on your skin. Take care & I hope you can remedy the situation soon..

I like the coverage of the MAC and the primer is like a nice day cream so it moisturizes my skin. You have to use it sparingly though or you will look pancakey. It stays on and covers beautifully. I live in Toronto, Canada so I'm sure we have similar weather, especially with the dryness in the Winter with the heating. Heather

Hi Susan, if you take a look at this other video that I did it will show how one eyeshadow is a highlighter (on the eyelid) In this other video I used pink on the lid and purple in the crease. I also did a video with less makeup using a powder/foundation application (usually sold in a compact) that goes on lighter. I sometimes wear less makeup.
