Great Video! There's a reason the platform numbering at Diamond Creek is quirky. It's because Platform 2 was only built in 1994, and prior to the duplication in 2023, was only used during peak times to allow trains to cross. Clearly they decided to keep the original platform as Platform 1, whilst the new, lesser-used platform became Platform 2.

It may be useless but that was surprisingly interesting Another mostly useless fact: there is a single boat on the PTV network, the Westgate Punt. It doesn’t take myki or show up on all journey planners but it is PTV branded

What about the Point Cook ferry, or is that run by another operator? The one that connects to the Stony Point trains.

The two longest tram routes in Melbourne are the 75 Vermont South and 86 East Bundoora, however it has been speculated that these could be further extended to Knox Shopping centre for the 75, and Hawkstowe railway station for the 86 (via the newer housing estates deviating west of Mill Park and terminating perpendicular to Plenty Road)
@PiersDJackson
@PiersDJackson 10 сағат бұрын
Looking at a map I can see the logical route for the 86 would be the "Plenty linear reserve" (where Plenty road turns east) and continue in a northerly direction to terminate at the Eastern end of the Plenty Valley Shopping Centre (and South Morang Station).

9:35 Fun fact Williamstown pier used to be one of the main ports of Melbourne, and is where alot of the first generation of Victorian steam locomotives where delivered and later assembled in Williamstown workshops (predecessor to Newport). The workshops where located in the open grassland where the line once was. Which means without that nub of the line Victoria wouldn't have had railways, and this video wouldn't have existed.

The problem with Diamond Creek is it got two platforms before it got two tracks. Originally all City trains and most Hurstbridge trains would depart from platform one, while only some Hurstbridge trains would depart platform two in peak times. Now that they have upgraded to double track they had to switch city departures to platform two has it is on the left hand side. What is really frustrating about the ‘upgrade’ is that 1. the newly renovated platform 2 still only has an entry and exit right smack bang into an unfriendly pedestrian carpark when they could have easily connected it to the ‘station shopping’ shopping centre. The centre walkways are under a metre from the platform and 2. After all the upgrades and double track Diamond Creekians still have to wait an hour for trains most of the day which for most make it unviable as a transport option.

Actually, Batman station is named after John Batman, who was a major participant in many massacres of indigenous peoples. He was however the only colonist to ever pursue treaty with the indigenous residents, though his "motives and the validity of the treaty remain of great historical interest and debate." And it is pronounced correctly

Dennis also is a place that doesn't exist. Its located in Northcote and there's no road, park or interesting point named this way. Dennis was an influent family that lived in that area. Also it's probably the most useless station at Hursbridge line (I know there's Wattle Glen but it's outside the urban area)

Hi Qazzy, ever thought about doing videos about old lines in regional Victoria that have closed but could still be accessible in some areas, including obscure ones such as the Newtown-Colac, East Natimuk-Carpolac etc etc. I live in Ballarat so we have many abandoned lines in this regional city alone and my grandmother lives in a town along the East Natimuk-Carpolac line.😊

I'd like to submit that the 'last name' pronunciation of Batman is hilarious, and instead of pronouncing stuff named after John Batman like the DC superhero, we should instead just pronounce all the '-man' superheroes like they're last names. Spiderm'n. Superm'n. Aquam'n.

Those two lygon street stops (stop 116 fenwick street and stop 115 melbourne cemetery) are a joke seriously. Its not uncommon for people to miss their tram because they cant cross the road even after waiting several minutes. How hard is it to add a pedestrian crossing thats exactly the same at the nearby richardson street and lytton street stops. To top it off the d2 class trams dont even fit in those safety zone stops on lygon street except for stop 114 princes street
