Wonderful advice, Zdenka! It's funny that I should find this video today as I had just rewatched a video I did in Carlsbad Caverns (just before we had to rush back to Canada due to a certain pandemic). I had originally been quite pleased with the video...today...not so much!! lol! I have learned so much from you over the past couple years and now would have not only edited, but filmed it very differently. Thank you so much!

A long form, live editing of a video would be great. 😬 I open up Davinci Resolve, and I have no idea where to start. Though…I’m sure everyone is on FCP, or Adobe PP…I guess it would be hard. Or…have a vote and see what we’d all like to see edited on? Hana

Great reminder at the end to just enjoy making videos. I’m trying to be less of a perfectionist and just do it. Perfectionism hampers action and creativity. Question: Any suggestions for a newbie to begin learning about color grading? Perhaps you’ve already covered color grading in one of your other videos and you can post the link? Thanks for all you do here, Zdenka.

Thank you for the great videos and for the little pep talk at the end. I am in the process of needing to learn all this stuff so I can make ads, reels & stories for my business. figured most of this out last Fall, during my Beginning Film class, teacher was very hands off/sink-or-swim, ie figure it out on your own, also started building my own royalty free music library, the music part is easy for me, because I've been a musician since I was 9 years old, and using music/sound editing software since the 1990s... btw, I just learned about nesting in Premiere Pro during last week's Film Editing lecture, surprised it's not in your tips

Hi, thanks so much for this. Question: I saw that another editor was using Filmora to film his Reels using the Portrait mode instead of the square (Filmora) Instagram mode. Doesn't that make sense? Because Instagram videos are vertical?
@ZdenkaDarula2 жыл бұрын
Of course if you’re going to be filming strictly for social media you were going to be filming and vertical mode. I however primarily shoot for KZbin and create reels from the same footage later on

Wow. So much to think about. Still trying to improve my shooting video and doing fine… But am I the only one who dreads editing? Sometimes its so much so I found myself avoiding it and my videos start backing up…. Imagine shooting so much nice footage and the disappointment you feel after sewing it all together by bad editing skills. I guess I just have to pursue editing with the same passion I have for shooting the video in the first place and work harder at it. All of this is much harder than I thought it would be…….. But thanks for this little lesson and the inspiration to continue.

Another great video Zdenka - all 10 points are so totally relatable to me - as they have now been so eloquently been pointed out. I will definitely pay more attention to many of these . Especially the "tennis match panning" . On a side note I was up editing my last video long into the night. Long story short the audio on my cheap iPhone ear Pods seemed OK when checking in iMovie.- as well as the playback on my iPhone and iMac internal speakers. However when I played it back on my home theatre with my surround sound speakers, the level of speech volume compared to the music was awful. The music during montages (without speech) was way way too loud. I even had some comments complaining. Wondering of this is something that you could explore on one of your videos - not as a stand alone topic - but maybe as part of an entire video on using music or audio clips in YT Videos - as many of your videos seem to only focus on the visual aspect. Cheers Tom
