I know so many who live by the “my money” &”your money” and pay equal contributions for bills yet have unequal income. For me, once it was all “our money” that’s when we stopped missing bills and stopped questioning the others expenses. Things became far more open and honest, and a cohesive plan for the future started to take shape. Everybody different but it all comes down to being honest with each other. Great points frugalgreencouple.

It is so great that the two of you communicate so well;)He is a lucky husband to have such a smart, crafty wife. Good luck on building that "nest egg" and teaching the children about finances.

Another great video. However I think a very important one was probably taken for granted because you guys are together for so long (I have seen you refer to this in other videos). That would be should a couple manage their finances separately and contribute equally to a combined "Family Maintenance" pot, or should they just have all their money go into a single account and work from a single budget. I was once involved in working out a pre-nuptial agreement with a client I coached. Because I am single I was thinking, as the man did in this particular instance, that they should have separate finances. For me that would make sense, but for the client she could not bring herself to see things this way. At first I thought it was selfish, lazy and unfair. However, thankfully, I am trained as a coach to leave my judgment at the door, and it was a great lesson. As she opened up some really great reasons to combine finances. This even made me more open to combining finances when I meet that special person I am lucky enough to marry, whereas before, I would have completely dismissed it, and likely would not have continued the relationship. It also really comes down to the perspective people go into a relationship with. For me, I think people are living longer and longer and so I don't see marriage as an "Until debt do us part" thing. A lifelong commitment, I would personally see it more like "Until our children are grown up" thing. So maybe breakup is not inevitable, but going into a relationship with that possibility in mind, makes me think finances should be separate. However, as I explained, that view was challenged and I would be much more flexible than before. So its a pretty big one to take for granted and it would be interesting to not only know how you answer it (I'm guessing it all goes to you for management FGG), but how you reached the decision. No insult intended to either of you, but it seems like he is pretty easy going, and you would take the lead, especially financially. But I wonder how it would have been resolved if this was not the case, or if something strange (I cant think what) changed that forced a situation where he needed to take control of the finances.

Great short term strategy. Next thing to deal with is what Technology has to say about what happens next. The future is very much concerning with automation; well no issues for me here and now but I'm really concerned for kids in the future. We are at the juncture just about right now. It has been said in the past but this time is different. We need to be mindful of our politicians and corporations. They are both exceeding what is good for people. My take.

Stay away from high interest debts like the plague. Pay off all credit card debt ASAP.. just use credit cards as basically a very short term loan. Mortgage debt and home equity loans (low interest loans) are ok... but keep your budget in order. Always buy cars that maintain their value over time(Hondas, Toyotas, etc) and keep them maintained. Eat healthy (organic) and get daily exercise to try and avoid health care expenses.
