I screen print using epoxy ink onto finished sheet metal. I want to start screen printing apparel at home, but have no space or money for the equipment. I'm currently debating getting a heat press and vinyl cutter and getting into heat transfer as a starting point, hoping to save up to make the switch from there.

I started printing in a 7x7 plastic shed in my driveway with a heat gun heat press and a 4 color 1 station press. But yes vinyl to start is always a good way just to get started.

@@ApparelTalk ty for responding. I'm in Nova Scotia Canada, so I'm not sure if a plastic shed would work for me, even though I have the space in the back yard.

I hate my amazon press. Registration is near impossible. You have any pointers? But you gotta make do with what you got. Been looking for a better press but seems like all I've seen the still want dang near new price.

Look on craigslist, offer up , facebook market place. You could find some good deals the amazon presses that are blue do not hold the registration at all.

Thanks for the tips! A quick question when starting out - Would you recommend getting a cheap flash unit ($200-$300) to cure plastisol ink, or a cheap heat press ($300-$400) to cure?

I would for sure recommend always getting a flash unit because that will help flash the tees so you could do more than one color.

What light do you use to see with when getting ready to use the UV light to burn the screen? I notice it looks bright and that there is plenty of light when you get ready to burn your screens. I was wondering why the light you are using doesn't affect the screen before you burn it.
