7. Not asking the right questions
8. Not checking with the Better Business Bureau for previous record of complaints
9. Not informing the mover of any unusual situations that you may run into before the move
10. Forgetting to keep track of each in-home moving estimate

I am going to be moving "cross country" in the not too distant future. I've had two good friends who moved cross country and who have used large moving companies to move them. These moving companies "told my friends that they would load their items onto the large fifth wheeler truck and then deliver their items to them at their new home AND THAT THEIR ITEMS WOULD NOT LEAVE THAT TRUCK UNTIL THE ITEMS WERE DELIVERED." My friend even asked specifically if any of her items "at any time" would leave the truck and she was told absolutely not." Well, what a lie. These "large reputable" movers, in fact, took my friend's belongings to a distribution center......unloaded the truck, put all of her belongings in this storage place at the distribution center. When the company finally decided that they had a full load going to where my friend was moving to, then they loaded up the truck again. My friend wound up losing about 13 boxes, some of her furniture was broken. She finally decided the lost items and damages were due to the truck being unloaded and reloaded. She has yet to have any compensation for her loss. I also have another friend who also moved cross country and she had the exact same thing happen to her. Now, in my research of moving companies, I specifically have asked the question " Will my belongings be moved out of the truck and then reloaded when they have a full load going that way.?" I called approximate 4 "Large Movers" and was told by all of them: "Oh, no, we don't do that !" Yes, they do. So, unfortunately, I will not be using a large mover to move me. I will be using those pods to move me.

i made a big mistake hiring a co. for 9,000.00 which was not a low cost at first, a 58 ft. semi trailor, 3 men . from mn to il. it ended up close to 29,000.00 things missing, lied to about being able to drive up to garages and house, extra cost on uhaul trks, dont hire out of st, louis mi. royal logistics!!!!!! u-pay for your stuff missing. keeping your stuff for x-tra money all the way, to the bank. !! now we got to move again ??????? who to hire and not keeep our stuff, what HELL ARE WE GOING THRU AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!

you mean the van lines that give jobs to unexperienced people and smaller companies and let them go to a customer unprepared without decent equipment or half a brain the sort of guys you pick up at the corner of a 7/11 not even wearing work gear apart from a tshirt and workshoes. the type that smash a piano to bits because they dont know how to handle it, but they are affraid to say no.
