I absolutely love Boy Harsher. They're such a great example of a project that seamlessly blends the sounds of multiple music scenes. From the more electronic, atmospheric elements of darkwave, to early minimalwave/coldwave-style analogue synth melodies, EBM/minimal techno/new beat basslines, and other elements of dark music styles... It's all awesome work so far. I missed them when they came through my area as well! Super disappointing, but I'm hoping they'll be back again.

Great channel! Ritual Veil, really stand out with a unique sound. The others are good, but a bit to divertive of the 80s/90s. As someone who was going into my teens around 1981 I really loved find the sounds of punk, post punk, newwave and synth wave. At 53 I still love this music and finding new bands doing this! Also, so many of the current Indiepop/dream pop bands are just amazing and have an amazing evolution of the indiepop of the late 80s and 90s like Alvvays, Mac Demarco, Arial Pink, Johnnathan Bree, Charley Bliss etc. I really wish the current synthpop/ goth pop bands would add more of there own touches. Over all very very good stuff in the mix :)

You should do an "intro to goth music" video. As a newer goth I've felt overwhelmed by the amount of music before and confused by the music labeled goth that wasn't goth.

Thank you for watching! 😊 I have two videos like this you may want to check out! One covers a short history of how the music evolved and the other explains a few of the subgenres and the sounds that go into them. Thank you for sharing these bands. I love synthpop and I look forward to checking these out as I was unfamiliar with most of them. Judging by your list, you may enjoy some other modern synthpop bands like Drab Majesty, Hearts of Black Science, Zynic, and TR/ST. Have a great day. Cheers!

Thanks for those pointers. Only knew Actors (like the same album) and also totally dig Boy Harsher, which I did see live in Portland (unfortunately with very poor sound). Schwarzer Sand [= Black Sand] Trauermarsch [Funeral March] is very NDW [Neue Deutsche Welle, New German Wave], like Andreas Dorau und die Marinas with his cult "Fred von Jupiter" or Falco. New exponent of that style is Konstantin Unwohl. The German lyrics are frequently very tongue in cheek, chuckle funny, but it gets lost in translation. Sorry! Bought Ritual Veil, so thanks for that recommendation! Some recent synth pop I like include Bara Hari's Pandora's Box, Velvet Velour's Pleiades, Love Spells' Lua Azul, and Vore Aurora's Eidolon.

Thank you for these videos! I always love some good synth work, regardless of genre, but I've been behind on the synthpoppy side of newer music!

There are so many others. NNHMN's album shadow in the dark, Sexual Purity's 2021 stuff, Terror Forms, S Y Z Y G Y X, buzz kull, minuit machine/hante, sydney vallette, etc. Fragrance's song So Typical is also very good. they are all so good.

I discovered Boy Harsher and Korine by listening to goth playlists on KZbin. They are awesome, I love "Uncrossed" from Korine and "Lost" from Boy Harsher. 🖤

Might I suggest a brilliant band you didn't mention: Soviet. Hardly anyone knows them.... but as far as the rebirth of synthpop, they've gotta be recognized, with their 2001 album We Are Eyes, We Are Builders. Great stuff. Additionally (even though they broke up)-- Blacklist (former members of Antarctica and National Skyline). Really dope. They haven't been active in a while but they had an awesome EP almost 15 years ago. Great video and channel, btw! Subbed.

Thank you so much for this. I have been listening to synth pop, new wave, new romantic etc since the 80’s and get so frustrated with modern music. Omg. I’m sounding ANCIENT now! 😂 But I am excited. These bands sound so good!
