I also stopped using commercial hair products months ago and my hair has improved, too! For most of my life I had a bunch of hair and scalp issues (breakage, itchiness, dryness, etc.) but using DIY natural products instead of store-bought ones has made a huge difference. I will say that it took some trial and error to find the right DIY stuff (I have fine hair + acne-prone skin and certain natural ingredients can cause buildup or breakouts), but I don't consider commercial products an option anymore because there are too many random ingredients in them that I seem to be sensitive to, and I'm tired of all the formula changes that end up making commercial products worse. Having a simple DIY routine can be effective and affordable, so I don't think anymore needs to use commercial products, especially if they are doing more harm than good. FYI, my hair routine basically consists of a few homemade DIY products: Prepoo - Okra gel with ambunu, rosemary, and clove Cleanser - babassu oil soap Leave in - Plain okra gel Hairdress - Grease made of beeswax, mango butter, castor oil, black seed oil, etc.

I loved reading your comment. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and what you are currently using on your hair. Your list of ingredients sound SO good!! I've never tried babassu so I'll add that one to my list of ingredients to try - oh and the hair grease sounds amazing, let me go look into that lol😊 And you are so right, simplifying our routines and using simple ingredients is what makes all the difference to both our hair and our health. The random ingredients in these store bought products are just not needed so I couldn't agree more. I'm happy to hear that you are achieving success with your natural products. Thanx again for watching and commenting. I truly appreciate it ❤

This is so encouraging!! I stopped using grocery store brands but I did purchase a salon quality shampoo as well as formulated my own Ayurvedic cleanser, deep conditioner and leave in. It’s been 6 months and this it’s the thickest and longest that my hair has been.

If y'all want to use conventional black owned hair products, Bronner bros, ORS, and design essentials are still black owned, and their products work quite well. CurlyProverbz and Katherine Sewing (a white woman with very long, curly hair) also have herbal stuff like in this video if you're going the natural route.

Is ORS black owned? They were at the center of the relaxer law suit due to its harmful chemicals.

@@tray99847 Yes ORS is black owned. Relaxers were invented for black people, by black people. There are no chemicals in relaxer that are known to be carcinogenic, especially not when applied topically.

❤Hey Selena, you look amazing 🤩 This is another great video. We need to hear this important information. Thank you again for sharing your journey and everything that you’ve been learning so far. I know it is or will be helpful to many others who may not have had the time to look deeper into this matter. I can definitely speak for myself when I say that I was surprised and saddened 🤯😢 to learn about the majority of our “Natural” Haircare Products are still containing all of these harmful chemicals. You are truly an inspiration for me to get my hair in order. I am currently waiting on some products to come and next I will be putting together a schedule to stay consistent with my hair routine. I have so much going on in my life right now(My Autistic Son- Starting renovations on my house- Health issues 😩), but I just told my husband that I MUST find time for ME. My Me Time is going to be my hair routine. I know it will be very therapeutic once I get started, cause right now wash day is so rushed. I’m lucky if I can deep condition for 15 minutes 😂

Hey beautiful❤thank you so much. I literally can't thank you for your lovely words and for your comment in general. To know that I have a community of likeminded, beautiful queens who understand what's going on and who choose to support me whilst I try to raise awareness just means the absolute world to me and encourages me to keep going, so again THANK YOU😘 Yes, it's such a shame that they are continuing to sell us products that have the capabilities of potentially harming our health, whether that be in the short or long term. I for one have suffered health issues in the past because of them - albeit mild, but nonetheless, we should be able to trust those who are selling us products that we apply to our scalp and hair and its unfortunate that we can't. I'm so sorry to hear that you are dealing with so much at the moment, my thoughts and prayers are sincerely with you. Please do take things just a day at a time, making small changes each day that will better your health will make such a big difference over time. Like you, I had to eventually make the decision to carve out some 'me time'. It's hard for us mothers sometimes because we put so many above ourselves very often, which is great, but we must also have some time to ourselves which will be best for the family as we can't pour from an empty cup. I literally have one day out of the week (my 'me time' lol) and that's the day I spend hours on my hair. It has become so therapeutic and I've realised I'm a better person for it, so please do try to find a little time for yourself where you can, even if it's just for a few hours - because you more than deserve it. Wishing you all the very best on your hair health journey. Wishing you, your son and your family health and prosperity - enjoy some 'me time' lol. Thank you so much for supporting what I do - I appreciate you❤☺❤

I, too, have been caring for my hair using only herbal diys and quality small black owned business hair products w/o any of the chemicals found in the commercial ones I used to buy. Over the past several months my hair has become thicker, softer, and better at retaining moisture and length. I have even been using only clay washes to cleanse and detox my hair and scalp and my hair has never been healthier. Awesome video!

Your videos are so helpful and informative. I had been seeing the doctor for my itchy scalp for over a year. After a biopsy and skin test, biopsy was okay. Skin test showed some ingredient. I am allergic to. .When I washed my hair it was fallen out. I asked the doctor about my thyroid. The test showed low levels. He lowered my medication. I got my hair trimmed. I noticed less hair loss, and I switched from using a comb to finger-combing my hair. I am tired of buying expensive hair products but I am nervous about making them at home. ps I still have problems with my itch scalp. Any suggestion. Thank you

I'm so sorry to hear about your health concerns and pray that you are able to find some solutions, as I'm not a professional I wouldn't want to recommend anything specifically, but what I can say, is I was also suffering with similar issues as yourself regarding itchy scalp and hair loss. What I found really helped was firstly I cut all diary products out of my diet, this helped within a week or so to calm my scalp quite considerably. I then started to use hair teas on my scalp so that I was able to establish what herbs and oils my scalp loved. I found that it loved a solution of distilled water with vegetable glycerin as well as clove and fenugreek tea - and then I would seal that with organic castor oil mixed with a few drops of peppermint and rosemary essential oil. I also started to wash my hair and scalp weekly (religiously) with strictly natural ingredients and once I incorporated all of these practices into a consistent regimen, my scalp issues eventually went away. But please understand that this was my particular experience so may or may not work for you - and should you give any of them a try please do speak to a professional and do strand tests first, but I hope you can take something from my experience that will help with your situation. Sorry I couldn't be more help but I really hope that you are able to try different ingredients and techniques that will help you to combat your health concerns. Thank you so much for watching and wishing you all the very best on your journey❣

Thank you so much for watching!! Have you tried mixing the herbs with shea butter, oils and/or honey? I've found this to make a huge difference. Without me adding those ingredients the herbs would be too strengthening for my hair strands and my hair would be very dry. Also, I'll be filming a video soon on how I make my creamy all natural deep conditioner, hopefully you'll love that recipe as much as I do. Thanx again❣

Those who are concerned about being healthy and eating simply are may be whole food plant based. The same can be said of not just hair products but makeup, lotions, etc. Less man made and more from Mother Earth!
@MindfullyRooted
@MindfullyRooted Ай бұрын
This is absolutely correct. We are exposed to toxins in our day to day lives and although it may be difficult to totally eliminate them all, taking steps in the right direction each day towards reducing and cutting certain things out can eventually, drastically improve our health and wellbeing. Nothing can beat what Mother Earth has provided us. Thank you for watching and commenting😊x

So does wetting intermittently causes dryness. I don’t buy any products that claim to have natural ingredients I can source by self, I buy based on science and new technologies if I’m purchasing ….like hydrolyzed proteins or BTMS for example

For me I found hydrating my hair regularly has made such a difference with my scalp and hair and as long as I’m going in with an oil after that everything’s fine. As far as the science, if there’s anything I’ve learned personally on my natural hair journey is not to over complicate things (like our ancestors) and listen to my hair. The moment I started using basic ingredients without synthetic chemicals, my hair began to flourish and my scalp heath improved massively so I stuck with it and am continuing to reap the rewards - I think it’s important we listen to our hair and do what works best. Thanx for watching and commenting 💕
