This movie scared the crap out of me as a kid. I finally rewatched it a few years ago after having not seen it for a long time, and even now in my 40's, there were still some creepy scenes that gave me chills. That just goes to show how well it was made. Thanks Minty.

Hey you know, speaking of rewatchable movie I just have to tip my hat off to that mini-gun shoot-out scene, where they all shoot in one direction, they basically mow down everything in its path. I remember seeing this movie and I'm just in love with this movie like minty says. Great stuff that they did on this movie.

I have an admittedly sizeable list of movies that if I see are coming on it's mandatory that I at least watch part of them (I'll never drop cable until I'm forced to or can't afford it, the On Demand world has ruined the excitement and thrill of turning on a radio or television and discovering something new or hearing the right song or movie come on at the perfect moment). But Predator is very high on that list. Though I tend to drift off to other things and leave it on in the background once Arnold is alone. That's also a real testament to how great Predator is though, half of the movie has no dialogue but is still great. He doesn't need to talk to a volleyball to explain what's happening, you just understand it.

As a some-time armorer for film, it always cracks me up to see the blank-firing adapters in some of the M-16 barrels. Some were so glaringly obvious I wonder why they were left in the final cut. Good news, though- the adapters have evolved and are usually located further down the barrel of the weapon and out of sight. Thanks for the additional insight and trivia, Mark!

I have always loved this movie since I was a kid. I would point out that the video game Predator Hunting Grounds is a very faithful recreation of the movie. They took in many of the movie's story elements and integrated them into the game. Like when you play as the predator hunting other players as the commandos you have to use the treetops to move, and the thermal vision to better see. They also used the same music as well to give it that authentic feel. Great game and actually a lot of fun.

The first draft called *Hunter* is a good read, if you can find it. 14:30 don't forget the cut gore scenes to keep it from a NC-17: I believe there was another pan up to Shane Black's corpse where you could see the scooped out cavity (and hard work of the FX artists), as well as a more gruesome version of Jesse Ventura's death where you see some blade thing (akin to the killer frisbee in *Predator 2)* burst out his ribs, which the FX guys got from eating a bunch of ribs at a BBQ restaurant.

This was an epic movie despite what critics had to say about it. This movie introduced a new alien nightmarish creature that has become an icon in sci-fi films. I still say this movie was the best of all the Predator movies that have been made, because you just cannot beat the original. I am surprised that they did not have a sequel with Arnold reprising his role as, "Dutch". I know originally Arnold was approached for Predator 2, but he did not agree with the script having the action take place in a city. Danny Glover did a good job in Predator 2, but it just seemed to be missing something without Arnold being in the film. The movie definitely has an impact given the fact the original was made 36 years ago, and we still are talking about this film. Every time I watch Predator, it feels like it's the first time I have seen it and that in itself proves how good of movie Predator is, despite the critics. I hear there is a possible reboot in the making but given the reboot flops Hollywood has been pumping out, I hope they leave this movie alone, or at least keep their political agendas out of the movie. Of course, this is Hollywood and that will be a virtual impossibility because they just cannot stop themselves.

@@susannpatton2893 agreed but to be fair Batman is a DC brand character not a Marvel character. Yes, that Batman film was a complete disaster, and it still makes me cringe thinking about it. Shumaker ruined that franchise and if you remember Michael Keaton after meeting with Shumaker to discuss his vision for Batman, Keaton walked from the project. (This was for Batman Forever) He knew then how bad it was going to be, and he was right. I think Batman Forever was just as lousy as Batman and Robin. George Clooney as Batman and Val Kilmer as Batman were not good choices, and those movies reflected that choice.

If you ever do more Predator trivia: The novelisation(which was based off an early draft of the script) opens with an homage to Alien, with the Predator waking up from hypersleep. In Arnie's autobiography, 'Total Recal' he said he was so cold being covered in mud that he kept himself from shivering by drinking Jagermeister schnapps. He admits he was pretty blitzed by the time they got around to telling 'Action!' AVP Galaxy has the original shooting script, which sees Dutch realising what the guerilla soldiers were to his elite team is what they are to the Predator.

I recall reading a book by Jacques Vallée, the ufologist, which has a story about people in some South American village being hunted by some alien in the jungle at night. People were reporting burns on their skin just like a laser beam burn, and some villagers went out to hunt at night in the jungle and never come back. I wonder which came first; The Predator movie, or the alien attacks on the people in the village? I just can't recall which book by Jacques Vallée the story is in. He said he poured water on himself so that it looked like he had been working out like crazy and sweating buckets by the time Arnold showed up, and he'd be like, "Oh, nice of you to get here finally". Great video as always Minty. Predator has to be the archetypal action movies of the 80s: - Arny or Stallone - check - Set in a jungle - check - Unbelievable plot - check - Corny one liners - check - Corrupt government/corporate official (with the team) - check - Most of the team dies - check - Lots of explosions - check - One on one face off at the end where the good guy wins - check - A-Team style resourceful weapon building montage - check ... I could keep going. The only thing it is missing is a kid that turns out to be more resourceful than most of the rest of the cast, although Anna kind of fills that roll.

I like the multicultural subtext of the story. The cast is a diverse group of humans coming together to defeat a predatory alien from outer space. Movies of the 80s (especially action movies- Predator, Lethal Weapon, etc.) were great at blending in racial issues for a common battle without beating the audience over the head with the message. I made some great friends in school because these films had a character for everyone to be on the playground.

You know some of those early Predator designs would go on to be cannibalised in the 2010 film Predators?

If you watch Judgement Night with Emilio Estevez and Cuba Gooding Jr, the exact same music is used from the Predator.

The Predator makes an appearance in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands, in a bonus mission called "The Hunt". In 2021, the Predator was featured in the video game Fortnite as a cosmetic outfit for the character and a hidden enemy in the game, the first of which gave players the associated abilities such as invisibility and the should cannon.

I especially, liked the 'End Credits' where everybody are themselves as the Director says, " ... give me a pose." NOW, I know where that comic book fits end....The End...... Nice Work 'Minty'!!

Predator is a masterpiece. I've probably watched it 30 times, and it still holds up better than any of the junk that Hollywood cranks out these days.

I was watching it the other night with John McTiernan's director's commentary. He said the scene with Billy's evil laugh at the end came from a dream, where someone was trying to disarm an atomic bomb, but only had seconds to do it, and could never catch up to it. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! I think the Terminator was from a dream, too. The cyborg in flames was a vision James Cameron had. There's a quote from Vanilla Sky that kinda sums it up, "the subconscious is a powerful thing..."

Like on his first video about The Green Mile, he said Michael Duncan Clarke instead of Michael Clarke Duncan. We all know that his name was Michael Clarke Duncan.
