I live in Cape Town,South Africa and the rock dove lives on my door step, yes it is beautiful and I often get close to them but am I wrong for loving the look of the Clay dove more it just looks like a piece of art and they also live here

My father had a couple of pigeon lofts. One with racing pigeon's (didn't race them) and he had every colour and rare colours as well (yellow for example called yellow but nearer to tan) and the variations through breeding. All the birds "hooked up" as nature intended, not forced to mate as some breeders do. The other loft had Indian fantails, western rollers, oriental frills, tumblers tiplers, helmet's, Nunn's and some others that I can not remember. He also had a weird sense of humour, and would also bath some of the white pigeons with water containing food colouring. We had bright pink, green, yellow and red pigeons. When they were out in the flock it was a spectacular sight.

I live on the SE Coast of England. When my sister and I were young back in the 60's, we used to go to the local livestock and dead stock market with our parents (farm equipment, cycles, lawn mowers etc). There used to be a small animal barn with all sorts of wonderful rabbits, chickens and pigeons for sale. My sister and I loved going to gaze at the beautiful and adorable little creatures. Sadly, that and most if not all such markets here closed down long ago.

Sad that we don't have the either biggest "pigeon" ever known, or, that pigeon which was once the most abundant bird species on earth. The gentle, harmless dodo; a flock of passenger pigeons which would take hours to pass overhead while darkening the skies, the light of noon seeming to become that of late evening. I'd happily give a month of my life to see either.
