Hi Maha, my dad is German American, my mother is Syrian Lebanese. My father always says the blessing of his life was marrying an Arabic woman. He will ask for Kibbe and Shishbarak on his birthday I stead of a sausage or Texan food. Unfortunately my mother’s family like many Arabic families wanted their children to adapt quickly. While culture , food, music and other things were taught at home, la gauge was not, only some things. I can read and write and know some very basic Arabic. Hearing this beautiful lesson I understand how important it is to know Arabic. Language opens up parts of Arabic culture which are very important. Please make another lesson with expressions/sayings from our beautiful Sham. I appreciate the effort you take in doing these classes and showing to the world the beautiful side of Arabs. Most of the Wetern News never gets to enjoy our true heart. Allah iamshi maek

How would you say, "She made my blood boil?" But yes, in Spanish we tend to use "sangre liviana" which is literally light blooded. Although I've heard it used to describe someone who is personable. The same for heavy blooded, "sangre pesada," someone who is difficult to relate or deal with. We also love to use a version of Taht Amrak by saying "a su servicio" or "a sus ordenes." And yes, it tends to be more of a polite or hospitable thing to say, which I think tends to speak highly of the culture

We have most in Spanish -Me hierve la sangre -De mi cuenta -Lengua larga. To express they speak gossip/lies/rude. -Chica de bien, Chico de bien, when they speak of people for good marriag. -A tu disposición. At your service (friendly way) -Sangre liviana/pesada. Light-hearted, 'heavy-hearted'

Some same words in Somali, some with different meaning. Dami - put out/turn off, dabka dami (put the fire out) Shid - turn on (dabka shid, turn the fire on) Qafiif - light (not heavy) Long tongue is different but is used same manner (carab dheertahay). It's usually used also for people who get into conversations unvited or they spread news, talk, gossip. For these kind of people ladies may curse them; ilahay carabka ku go' (May God cut your tongue, meaning it's long) Amar - command Wan kugu amray (I have commanded you). We can also say wa amar ilahay (it's in God's command/will). You can use this phrase something happens so we must accept and be at peace. You are the best

I think the English equivalent to " khafeef dam" would be, when we describe someone as "light hearted". But to me it's akin to a car engine, many different types of fluids flow in and out, if I want to describe one in particular I wouldn't just say engine I'd be detailed like the oil is thick or watered down. The heart has many emotions emanating from it, it's good to have way to describe one of these characteristics.
