Twilight Princess' opening isn't really supposed to build intrigue, it's supposed to get you into Link's daily life and build a bit of a rapport with the people he loves before ripping it all away from you.
@ricky.t.1658
@ricky.t.1658 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think so, tp is an example of what not to do when writing a story, the opening of these ways have to be slow, introducing the stories and the characters so you can recognize what they are, a good example is majora’s mask, where there is nothing but a kid with his horse walking through a dead forest just after telling you that left his place between legends to search for an old friend (or maybe himself), in tp they throw you directly to a conversation about hyrule without who this people are, what is hyrule, why are they in a lake etc. You are confusing the player af and even more when the game tries to force you love the characters with sad music without you barely know them, it’s like the opening of a novel, in a game things work different.
@lnsflare1
@lnsflare1 Жыл бұрын
@@ricky.t.1658 It can work many ways in games, including this way. Majora's Mask is about you getting dropped in a weird place and slowly getting attached to it while you try and save it, so it starts abruptly. Twilight Princess is about you being an established person with ties to the place you are trying to save, which is why it takes the time to introduce what his normal life was like before things started going to hell, alá Kingdom Hearts 2, so you can see what he's trying to save/regain. Also, they first out explain what Hyrule is in that conversation, which is the beginning of the opening section rather than the entirety of the opening (which I'm defining as the portion before you meet Midna and truly start your journey), and the identity of those people are quickly answered early on in that section. Plus, that intro music, while slow and contemplative, seems to be intended to be happy and pastoral rather than sad, considering lilting notes.
@ricky.t.1658
@ricky.t.1658 Жыл бұрын
@@lnsflare1 that's not what I try to say, I like too that the game begins slowly, my major problem is with the begining of the opening, it's very abrupted and really confusing, without no entering scene, dropping you all the info without major contemplation from a guy you don't know, the thing with the music is that it gets super dramatic and emotional when you see ilia for the first time, which doesn't let the player breath for a second
@lnsflare1
@lnsflare1 Жыл бұрын
@@ricky.t.1658 Yes, the story doesn't feel obligated to go "Link sat down and had a chat with his sword teacher/adopted brother figure Rusl," because it trusts the audience of the first T rated Zelda game to have sufficient comprehension to figure out that this is someone who Link is close to from context clues in that scene, and see inject permanent then figure out his identity when you talk with him a few minutes later. There's also no music the first time you see Ilia, which is when she steals Epona, and the theme when you see her shortly thereafter is a quick snippet of a during version of her theme, which is an mellowly upbeat rendition of the classic Epona's Theme, which you immediately have to play on the horse grass right next to you, telling you that she's a horse girl.

The tone of the game jumps between dark and gritty and trying to be comical and silly. The character models are downright ugly. Link has absolutely no expression on his face for the whole game. Ganondorf gets shoehorned in as the final boss. The...."platforming".... sections. Midna is a very annoying companion who is actually the main character of rhe game and spoils every single puzzle solution that you come across. No magic. The most forgettable music. I could definitely name more, but I actually haven't beaten it. I quit about the Lakebed Temple every time.

Zant is what I'd consider to be Good subversion, especially when you understand the game is Midna's (the Twilight Princess). Her journey and potential corruption from Power (which banished her ancestors to an alternate dimension) mirrors Zant losing himself completely. He is an utter fraud and a Slave to Power at the end of the day, along with Ganondorf. Midna however, sacrifices herself for Link, Zelda, and the Light world which she initially hated. She was selfless while Zant was selfish and that is reflected by Zant being tossed aside for the true Villain.
@ryanisbelle6107

And what makes Ganondorf worthy of being the True Villain? Is he not selfish? The Entity whose sole existence is to possess the Triforce of power and then obtain the other two is not considered a slave to power?

The dissapintment would have been Ganondorf appearing from nowhere to fight you with swords, HE IS NOT GANONDORF, HE IS GANON, THEY ARE DIFERENT THINGS FUCK, Ganondorf died many years ago and making him come would be dooming the serie to an eternal loop of no evolution since oot, I love the final battle of botw because it represents the essence of the game, you get the freedom to move around with your horse while you defeat the last consecuences of that curse’s existance, in the plain of hyrule letting you see all the things you’ve visited through out the game, making you remenber why you are here, bringing back life to the world you once failed to save, it’s brilliant how the game gives you the sensation of ruins promising to come back one day in this last scenario. I repeat, Ganondorf is NEVER insinuated and him coming back would literally destroy the game as it would how, it doesn’t matter how hard Nintendo tries, they will never get over oot’s shadow. BOTW is a promise of change, evolution, increase and adaptation to a new world perspective. If a human shaped Ganon appears again it mustn’t be Ganondorf, Ganondorf is in the past, leave him go…

I think the twilight princess story is fantastic from start to finish and the narrative structure is near perfect. The beginning gives us a real chance to see link’s life. It gives him and the characters a third dimension. Ganon doesn’t come out of nowhere at the end. He’s hinted at early on and is confirmed at the end of the 4th dungeon which is about halfway through the game. He’s a looming figure behind the scenes that you know is coming at some point, but not before helping midna wrap up her story with zant in the twilight realm.

The villain swap is also poorly done, they build up a great, impressive and dominant villain just to realize they don’t have time to give him a good close so in the battle against him, he is literally humiliated by Midna and Link, he literally splodes like a ballom and a comical noise is heard while it happens once midna finishes him, it’s so obvious the writers just wanted to bring back Ganon for the fan service so hard they forgot they already had a villain so they said “mmm… well who cares *unvillains your Zant, makes him a comic relief*”… One thing I like tho is how they introduce Ganondorf, as you said, you always know he is hiding and soon he will come, to only appear at the end of the game they manage to evoque the sensation of evil all around his presence. Although, a lot of this comes from the work in the other games, the build up in them makes him recognizable even if you haven’t worked a lot on him. TP is far away from having a perfect storyline.

I didn’t like the triforce quest, although it’s not as HARD and HORRIBLE as some people proclaim it is, it’s a reminder that there where a lot of great temple we didn’t get to see because they wanted to sell the game as soon as posible, let’s be honest, WW temples are fucking garbage with counted exceptions, it’s so evident the true temples were gonna be god tier and they were gonna include the triforce pieces but because of time they had to create that shitty quest instead and they reused the ideas for those temple in TP. Also, I don’t remember SS having breakable weapons but in botw they are that way because of the open world nature of the game, there are tons of weapons and making them imposible to break would make the game super super easy, not influencing the player to explore for new weapons etc.

Ghirahim as a sword spirit didn’t bug me. He’s Fi’s counterpart, and like Fi it’s telegraphed in his design, and I think he literally states that Demise is his master and his plans to revive Demise very early on. It’s Demise who is poorly handled. Particularly with, yes, the imprissoned, but he feels like he showed up LATE, not Fashionably Late. So we have Ghirahim who (unlike Zant) we’re already aware is more like a Lieutenant. As cool as the Final Fight against Demise is…he…really didn’t meet expectations with his entrance whatsoever (and his character was hurt further by the Toejam Durian.) - …and honestly Ganondorf didn’t need to be in Twilight Princess. It feels like a copout of “oh we keep signaling The Hylians Literally Commited Genocide (since literally the introduction with Rusl to various NPCs to Midna) better bring in a Classic Main Series Villain to get things back on track! Nevermind we’re showing him getting executed before committing any crime~” (which ofc Ganondorf is gonna come back pissed?? If it allegedly “follows OoT” then how the hell is the triforce split as he never entered the sacred realm in that timeline? Allegedly? The Gerudo are GONE with loose subtext being applicable to the Twili being theirs and possibly the sheikah’s decendants, and Arbitor’s Grounds sits where the Spirit Temple would have if things do line up…so…fantastic. Hyrule desicrated their temple, imprisoned and executed and/or tortured them, then shoved them through the mirror of twilight. But it’s okay because Link killed Ganon! Who…if he’s the same as OoT Ganondorf Allegedly only…really wanted the Gerudo to not starve. Either way Deliberate Implications has the Gerudo massacred with only their name remaining attatched to a now-empty region (unless some Gerudo Survivors of Arbitor Grounds got twisted into the bublin who are the only living people found there-and yes they are people. Or the bublin moved in after the Gerudo were massacred. Either way…it’s ugly. But gets side stepped once you start to think too deeply about things in favor of Fight Ganon which…y’know is coming as soon as Botched Execution at the midpoint, but Zant Is A Figurehead still feels…cheap.)

My greatest disappointment is that the most interesting, and compelling villains (Ghirahim, Zant, Twinrova) wind up being little more than subplots to the same type of villain. Majora’s Mask was such a breath of fresh air because it deviated from traditional formula of (insert whatever incarnation) Ganon/Demise and provided something unique.

For me, the most disappointing moment in Zelda is in Skyward Sword when we meet the dragons. When I discovered there were dragons in the game, I got excited and couldn’t wait to see them! But as soon as I found the water dragon, I could not be more disappointed. I mean, she and the other dragons look more like weird snake aliens with human faces. Ugh they were hideous. That is NOT what a dragon looks like, Nintendo!!!

I love the final battle of botw because it represents the essence of the game, you get the freedom to move around with your horse while you defeat the last consecuences of that curse’s existance, in the plain of hyrule letting you see all the things you’ve visited through out the game, making you remenber why you are here, bringing back life to the world you once failed to save, it’s brilliant how the game gives you the sensation of ruins promising to come back one day in this last scenario. The final battle is not about difficulty, it’s about mementos, realization, the end of an era with a simple movement. If you want hard bosses go play dark souls or some shit.

In Twilight Princess' case...you kinda had a few hints that Zant was a bit of a puppet. Minda even mentions how he somehow went from a wimp to being actually powerful. I get that they were trying to make a 'spin' of it, but I think if the Zant fight was....better then it would have been remembered more fondly.

Nothing like going through the same overworld (for the most part), harder dungeons (the last 3 having rooms that send you back), and what do you get for it all? biggest disappointment for me is how much the durability mechanics kill any sense of enjoyment for me in BotW....I haven't tried to continue it in over 2 years now ( I did the Zora divine beast and the Yga Clan hideout as well as lots of exploration & shrines but I just wasn't having much fun outside of the general exploration ) and still struggle with whether or not to force myself to try again. I hope the sequel offers some sort of accessibility options or "easy" mode for those like me who want to enjoy the game but can't with the durability

For me it was the magic armor side quest from Twilight Princess, you have to donate 1000 at Malo Mart at Kakariko to fix the Castle's East gate Bridge ( West in the Wii Version) After that you need to deliver a barrel of hot water to a dehydrated Goron on the repaired Bridge, then donate another 200 so Malo can buy the store in Castle Town. Then you can buy the armor for 598 rupees at the shop, you get excited put it on then you realise you lose 2 or 3 rupees per second wearing the armor and you would lose a further 5 to 10 rupees every time you got hit.

I disagree with The Opening part of Twilight Princess. I love when games take their time to let you live a regular happy day of the protagonist before moving to the interesting part of the story, and in my opinion Twilight princess handles it as good as Assassin's Creed 2 opening. For me is much more enjoyable having time to know the characters because later it's going to make me empathize more if something bad happens, rather than having a first mission and in the half of it being "surprised" by the actual plot of the game.

Wrote way way way more than i meant but Zelda deserves it. 1st off I want to say this list was very well done and thought out. 👏 I just saw your channel for the 1st time today and am definitely subscribing. I haven't read over the other comments so I don't know if it has been said but if it hasn't you should do a part 2 ✌and if it has here is my vote to have it for this topic. Also I'm sure if you thought of "worst or disappointing moments" than you probably have thought of doing a "best moments or exceeds expectations" list. 🤔😄🤩 Now I was born in 1981. I have been hooked on home video games starting with the NES ( actual arcade cabinets and the Atari were obviously 🙄 the first things i played that I loved but the NES is what got me hooked like everyone my age.) Since I started playing the original "Zelda" and "Links Adventure" when they debuted the franchise (and Megaman) have been my favorite and I have seen everything in the franchise when it was brand new and there is a ton of content.... Yeah I'm middle aged and to most of you probably seem old. When I 1st saw this headline I immediately thought 🤔🤨😒 "I'm probably going to disagree with most of this list." However entry after entry I found myself saying "Yeah definitely! I certainly agree 👍 with that." I don't necessarily agree with the order and there was only 1 entry I disagreed with which was the Skyward Sword Tentalus battle. But I have seen that in many a lists and know I'm the minority when it comes to that fight and understand why many don't like it. I absolutely love Majora's Mask and it's at the top of my all time lists however😒....... I would replace that fight with 3 of the 4 boss fights from the 4 dungeons in MM. ( I'm going to list some things but if you are interested in a true comparison video between the 2 the KZbin channel "Nerrel" did a absolutely fantastic video on breaking it all down.) The Goht fight in Snowhead is the 1 I can say I enjoyed in both versions of the original and 3DS Remake. The other 3 have major issues on at least 1 version if not both. For instance Odolwa = Forest Temple is way to easy in both versions and on the 3DS it's almost impossible to lose. If you literally just stand there he will just keep dancing 💃 saying "You want to die" without even taking a swing until you get in the flower. They completely redid the Twinmold fight on the 3DS and it can take forever for it to do what you need it to (which is pure random) when you are a giant in order to defeat it. If you aren't extremely careful you will run out of magic or time and have to start over all because of the randomness of the fight and not because you did something. 😶😒🧐😟🙁☹😡🤬 Gyorg=Great Bay got tougher 💪 in some ways with the swimming now sucking and slower which makes getting in the right position to make the correct strike awful at times but they at least made targeting him once in the right spot way easier. Even though (again) it can suck your magic 🎩 down if you aren't careful. I'm sure there are other things like how as a deku your speed and distance coming off objects doesn't pick up as fast to prevent you from inadvertently falling like it was on the original N64 version. Now though it makes it a ton harder to hit lily pads without running out of jumps and in some places impossible almost. (My friends and I actually tested this and measured it side by side in the race against the Potion Witch. With no mistakes you barely get ¾ as far as in the original when you reach the giant squid. ) Anyway I have wrote way over enough and don't want to write a book and it's sequel here but great job and again you may have enough with all the content in the franchise to do a part 2 ✌to this topic and then some. You should and probably already are working on a "Best or exceeds moments" also. 🤔 I think it would well worth your time and hardwork. Not to mention us as your fanbase would love it. 💚💚💚💚

How bout Hobbies of the Rich side quest w/ Hagie in Botw? He offers you a down payment of 100 rupees to kill 2 guardians. When I did it I was expecting 3 or 4 hundred rupees because he said that 1st 100 was a down payment. But instead he just gave 20...he said down payments dont have to be a small portion of entire sum. The sad thing is he's right. I found out it's only that they usually are because it's rare people can pay the entire sum at once, so then they equally split the percentages, like with mortgage. Interestingly that's kinda referenced in Hylian Homeowner, w/ Bolson

Only villain swap out I think is poor is in Twilight Princess with Zant & Ganon. The Agahnim/Ganon aspect worked fine as pointed out in the video. But Demise is a force technically brought to the attention of the player before Ghirahim, and Ghirahim makes clear he’s trying to resurrect a higher power throughout the game. Demise is the origin of all evil and thus having him only appear in his true form at the very end makes it more climatic. However, the best example that broke the mold entirely was Yuga & Ganon. With Yuga only bringing Ganon back to absorb him and use him to gain more power. Yuga remains the big bad after Ganon is brought back, which I remember distinctly taking me by surprise.

I actually don't understand why so many people think that Dark Beast Ganon is disapointing. Yeah sure the fight itself is really easy and doesn't really challenge you at all but the the feeling and the atmosphere in that fight is really something special. The problem is that even though the atmosphere is very good in botw, like you said it's not a very challenging or fun fight, the game spends a lot of time hyping up calamity ganon and how terrifying he is yet when you finally confront him, sure the actual calamity ganon fight is decent but when he turns into a giant beast then he's no more difficult than a bokoblin except he doesn't actually aim at you or if he does he does it very slowly to the point where you'd have to try and get hit by him. It's not the worst boss in the series but it's pretty easy to see why he's so disappointing to a lot of people
