Yeah the feeling of not knowing who you are then slowing remembering you life, your friends and how great they were really made you feel terrible for ever forgetting them, for not being there for them in their final moments and now even though everything is fine and you have defeated the evil of Hyrule, you just can't shake the regret, the remorse, the guilt of knowing all your friends die in a tragic war which you still feel partially guilty for. The subtle details about your grandma in Wind Waker make it even sadder. For starters, I want to draw attention to a quote from King Theoden in the second Lord of the Rings movie: "No parent should have to bury their child" Your grandma in the game clearly had to deal with outliving Link and Aryll's parents, a hard enough burden. This is only made worse by the worry of also outliving her grandchildren, as well as the guilt of not being able to do anything to help as their guardian.

@@FMHikari I believe it's stated in the game that the reason why the mirror was able to be fixed had to do with who broke it. Midna's shattering of the mirror is very different from it being broken by... Wast it Zant or Ganon? Can't remember. Either way, I believe it's heavily implied that Midna breaking it is permanent. That said, while a sad moment, no moment in Zelda has had me put down the controller to take moment like when Zelda explains everything to Link in Skyward Sword. Her regret for the actions she took (using Link's relationship with her as a means to force him to become the hero he was meant to be ), Link's reaction, and Zelda's request making the adventure to save her feel all the more personal... imo, it is the most expertly crafted scene in the entire series, and all without any voiced dialogue.

@sbkeel56395 жыл бұрын
@Bucket List breath of the Wild is not worse than the Adventure of Link that game is more frustrating than fun unless you use a guide and even then... Breath of the Wild has a lot of good things the overworld is bigger than we could've ever hoped before and the physics engine is very innovative and I look forward to what they will do with it next time! Finding the memory locations and the shrines was a very fun challenge too! But I agree with you that the Dungeons if you can call them that are really really bad! Too similar, too short, no mini boss, no new items that redefine how we go thru that dungeon and the overworld afterward... Their biggest mistake in my opinion was to give the 4 abilities at the great plateau and no more because they wanted to allow people to do everything from then on but that limits the fresh excitement from playing the Dungeons and getting something truly gamechanging! Botw is a two steps forward one step back kind of game to me fun and filled with stuff to do in some aspects but loses too much of our favorite parts of past Zelda games including all the exciting minigames and worthwhile sidequests! Hopefully they take our criticisms to heart for next time and make an even better Zelda game!

My grandma is a little old lady about 4'8" tall; she always reminded me of the Wind Waker grandma and when I was little I used to joke about cosplaying as Aryll and having her dress up as Grandma. Last year, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer and it resulted in one of the most stressful and horrible summers in my life. Not only was it hard to see the sweetest person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing in my life become thin and weak, it was a reminder that she could leave at any moment. Thankfully, she pulled through! She's cancer free, and she's happier than ever. However, she's now living far away in Seattle (I live in Puerto Rico), where she's gotten better care than she could ever hope for here. I used to see her almost every weekend, and now I don't get to do that. I know she's fine, and she writes to me, and we share calls, but... it's really not the same. So basically, I don't think I could play Wind Waker again after having an experience like that. I already almost cried the first time I played WW when I was a child.

the scene at the earth spring also broke me, which i’ve never seen anyone else mention. with the incredibly sad music known as ‘separation’ playing in the background, link and zelda see each other in person for the first time in a while, yet aren’t allowed to go to each other. after zelda leaves without explaining, impa tells link that zelda was almost captured because he was late. this moment of brutal honesty and shame really struck me hard. once again, link is then left alone in the earth spring, without an understanding of where zelda is, with the mysterious and mournful spring music playing. finally, he imagines a memory of zelda in front of him, happy and smiling as she once was, before the mirage fades away and leaves nothing but the stare of the stone goddess statue.

The whole sequence is beautiful. You’re taking to Thelma I’m front of the hotel first after a pretty lightheaded side quest and then after she goes back inside you turn around, and there’s Rutella, totally unexpected, this regal, ethereal form wordlessly beckons you to follow, and then the music starts to fade in. Being a long time Zelda fan this was one of the details that made the whole thing more profound. You start to realize where she’s leading you to, and then once you enter the cemetery she gives her final request, cue the water works. The whole thing is so sad. Also I couldn’t imagine, nor would I envy being in Link’s shoes once the prince wakes up, and having to tell him what happened to his mother. For being a video game it’s extremely well done. I admit all the other ones are really sad but Rutella storyline is the only time I ever cried in a Zelda game. I came really close with the Pamela and her father scene, as well and Anju and Kafei, but something about this one got to me.

The thing that makes me the most sad is the damn spikes to the north east of death mountain. Like they look so neat and amazing, and they’re next to the ocean and a bottomless pit so my mind is like “hEh, Revali’s Gale Time-“ and then it slaps you in the face with the “You can’t go further”. I felt so mad, and I thought “at least make giant cliffs that reach the sky, or make something that doesn’t peak my curiosity” ;-;. Nintendo, if ya put a giant plateau next to something that seems so interesting, you’re just gonna make me cry. If I’m not wrong also, there’s a named mountain/hill in the Gerudo Mountain area, and I placed a pin there seeing as I hadn’t explored there before. When I began to climb, however, the same. damned. message. appeared. Why do you name something inaccessible? I cried enough with the mipha’s backstory, please stop.

Breath of the Wild's story had plenty of sad moments by itself. Zelda's failure to save almost everyone she loved... Mipha never getting the chance to be with Link... (Even though I don't ship her with him.) Zelda remembering her mother with Urbosa... Zelda's father berating her for her lack of dedication to her task... The picture of the Champions... And finally, when Zelda thought she lost Link when he was all she had left...

The saddest part of Botw for me was when I read the king’s journal where he says that he has only been so tough on Zelda in hopes that her power will awaken; He was willing to have Zelda hate him so she could save Hyrule. He then says that if Zelda’s power doesn’t awaken at the spring of wisdom (the last place Zelda was before Gannon came) he would apologize and start being nicer as his strict ways haven’t worked. But Gannon attacks before Zelda ever sees her father again so they never got to be on good terms.

Apparently, draft versions included that Gannondorf had some human, non-Gerudo collaborators, and that last segment before the opening of the Door of Time might of had open warfare in Castle Town between this factions and the Guard--- and that he might be, basically; left over code from this version; hence why he disappears afterwards and there's no mention or marker of him afterwards. As they agree to leave the world of the living, their soul accompanied by the soothing, but puzzling melody of the Song of Healing, they remember and are thus, again, surrounded by the people they loved and vowed to protect... at any cost. I know this is an entire game I’m talking about, not just a moment, but Breath of the Wild Link’s entire existence is sad. He wakes up, and is given such a difficult task of killing a great, powerful embodiment of evil, trekking through deserts and mountains and falling in lava, hungry but persisting through the rain, for years. All by himself. He has nothing but the occasional horse, wolf, npc to keep him company, and along his way to complete his final duty, he helps so many people, from a small child wishing to cook for her sister to a diseased man that needs meat to survive, putting EVERYONE’S lives before his own. Yet he gets no compensation. A silent hero, alone in the wilderness, with no memory of his life, just glimpses of it. And it’s fighting Ganon WITHOUT these memories, WITHOUT companions, WITHOUT ANYTHING, that makes me feel like he is the strongest Link.
@vihuynhquang5204 Жыл бұрын
And we may never know whether Link be able to make peace with himself, considered that those he believed more worthy than him died, and he have failed everyone, including his family. Even when the spirit of his deceased friends - the former Champions - aid him both in power and emotional support, we may never know if he can believed all of it is true. And THEN whether Link’s mental can be afflicted with Malice is another matter, but I don’t think this is possible
@ehx3419 Жыл бұрын
@@vihuynhquang5204 I never noticed, but my way-over-the-top might-not-even-be-possible mod concept actually remedies that as well. Basically, a new important character named Mystena (she has control over dimensions) manages to save the four Champions and has them take shelter in a chaos realm. However, then her sceptre is shattered, which causes said chaos realm to fall apart, so everyone assumes (in the backstory) they died anyway. (By the time Link wakes up, Mystena found out that not only are the Champions alive and relatively well, but regaining the shards of her sceptre and putting them back together will let them return to Hyrule. Which, of course, becomes integrated with the main questline. But that's another story.) Her involvment weaves through the (story and) backstory all the way up to the final memory, where it's not Zelda's awakened powers tht save Link, but Mystena with a hailstorm of Ancient Arrows from a 10-shot bow. She then heals Link and Zelda with a Hearty Potion (In a new memory that is found earlier but takes place later, Link is hit with a mysterious poison the Hearty Potion has no power against, but the Shrine of Resurrection can help with that). In the next scene of the same memory where Mystena speaks of how they now have to survive for each other, I actually had it be Link who speaks up for once and says "Then we will survive - for one another and for Hyrule!" It's that sentence that gives Zelda the hope needed to activate her powers, but from your remark I realized it also shows that for Link, there's not really such thing as having to make peace with himself - something killed his friends, and he has to and will keep fighting that something until it stops causing harm. No feeling of having failed, just determination.

oot link was brought to a place far from home, had to let hyrule die for 7 years, was forced to defeat ganondorf, had to deal with 2 terrible desicions by zelda, one of which sending him back to childhood, then he had to run far from hyrule, was sent to a dream land with the possibility of dying at any moment, then he lived alone for the rest of his life, and he never got to teach his techniques until twilight princess, where he is, in fact, long dead. Despite earning some memories we don’t know anything really of Link other then in Mipha’s diary saying that over time he stopped talking and smiled even less. And in Zelda’s diary he doesn’t talk due to the pressure of defeating the Calamity. And while Zelda was crying her eyes out of about leaving everyone to die, Link is just...silent. And comforts her. "...land, monster, sea, sky... A scene on the lid of a dreamer's eye..." What happens when your heroic journey means that everyone you've met on the way must cease to exist? The saddest moment in Zelda history - waking the Wind Fish in Link's Awakening. The song taught by the first character you meet - a young girl named Marin - a kind-hearted girl who spreads joy to all who would listen to her song, "The Ballad of the Wind Fish". For the first time in the series, you meet a character, journey with them and learn about them. They want to see the world beyond their small island of Koholint. You speak with her, listen to her... she aids you on your quest when you become stuck and rescue her when she becomes trapped herself. But in the end... like everyone else on the island... she part of the Wind Fish's dream. To wake the Wind Fish and continue your journey, you must erase Koholint Isle and all of it's inhabitants from existence... including Marin... the last thing you see before everything fades to white... the haunting song she sings the last thing you... or anyone else on the island hear. It's one of the darkest, most tragic moments in the series... capped by the sadness of a beautiful song that echoes into silence. Anyone who's played that game will feel emotional to this day from hearing that song... because it left a scar on the hearts who heard it last.

8:57 Some of you may know this, but in Majora's Mask, the way the people react, and the order that you encounter them match up perfectly with the Kübler-Ross model of grief; that states when somone is confronted with grief, they go through five distinct emotional phases: Denial Anger Bargaining Depression & Acceptance. First you have Clocktown, where all the people are in denial, for example Muto the Carpenter calling the falling moon a groundless theory. Then you reach woodfall, the Deku princess is kidnapped and the King reacts by lashing out at an innocent monkey, there we have our second phase: Anger. Then you reach Snowhead, Darmani is dead and he asks link to use his magic to revive him, Bargaining. Trying to make a deal to prolong his life Then you reach Great Bay, where you have Lulu, the Zora singer. A mother who lost her children, and she just stands there, overcome with Depression. Then you reach Ikana valley, a place of acceptance, where you have to climb the stone tower and get the item of Stone Tower Temple, the Light Arrows.

There is something more that I love about Fi's farewell, but it wasn't possible in english versions of the game because of the grammatical use of "you". To explain it, I don't know if it's the case in other languages like spanish, italian, german... etc but in french, during the game, Fi speaks to Link with a mark of respect (named "vouvoiement" in french, it's the same for the plural "you"), and at the end of the game, during her last words, she speaks to Link more directly, using the "tutoiement" (singular "you") and it gives it an intimate effect that really strucked me. It really looked like Fi was more than a comrade for Link, but a friend, even a part of his family.

@@ladyducoeur7073 I played the game in german, and it's the same there. We have "Du" which means "you" We use it when we speak to friends or family. Then we have "Sie" which also means "you". We use that when we speak with people we're not so close with or people we respect. We use it, for example, when we talk to our teachers in school or when we talk to our boss at work. Or simply when we talk to strangers in general. And then we have "Ihr" which also means "you" This is the highest form of respect and isn't used anymore in this day and age. It was used, when people talked to kings or when servants spoke to their masters. In SS Fi referred to Link as "Ihr". She was a servant speaking to her master. But when she bid her farewell she used "Du". It was really touching.

The Sheikah daughters one just broke me and what makes it worse is that it's Mothers Day. That one hit me even harder than Cremia and Romani, and that's factoring in the fact that I'm a lifelong farmer who can relate to them on a very deep level. Also, I watched your content A LOT a year or two back, along with some other great content creators who focused on Zelda, like Konrad of CW, Andy of MacIntyre, Dr. Wily, RMFH, Zelda Conqueror, and the (presumably) late and great Vortexxy, God rest her soul. A few of them are still around and fewer are still doing Zelda content, but you're the only dedicated ZeldaTuber left whom I used to watch loyally back in the day. Now that I've returned to the Zelda community (I departed so as not to be negative toward anyone during the Breath of the Wild days, and, while I didn't enjoy the game at all, I'm glad so many did!), I'm so thankful to see you still here, not only the last hero standing and not only still making Zelda content, but making Zelda content that's even better than the already-amazing videos you made back in the day. I don't remember if I had my channel already back then, but I'm happy and honored to be subscribed to you for the first time today, Zeltik. Thanks for always being here and for being, in this mediocre let's players opinion, the finest and most upstanding member of our groovy Zelda community.

While I dont think this scene is as depressing as this top because a lot of information aren't given to the player at the time you saw it, I think the Saria tale is very depressing in OoT as a whole, her song echoing to the wood for the eternity hidding in aptempt to hide her loneliness.

One of my favorite sad moments is in Majora’s Mask when you find the Goron fatherand tell him that his son is crying. That phrasing of “...whether you be a ghost or a figment of my imagination, I no longer care.”, breaks my heart. His struggle with the cold to remember his sons bed lullaby, although comical in some sense, makes it more glooming.

I agree with the number one. The music is what makes that scene for me and brings tears to my eyes. You can feel the heartbreak and crushing weight of Grandma's sadness. Their words "We will greet the morning... together" knowing they will die, always chokes me up.

I mainly like how one song can have opposites in emotion. Depending on whether or not you healed grandma our perception changes. When you heal her it stops being a crushingly sad song about her overwhelming love to her grandchildren compounded with the stress of danger for them and her aging body's helplessness. Before, the song's chords, instrumentation and melody convey the emotion behind the dramatic irony that we know grandma's not the cause for her grandchildren's danger but she feels bad because she thought she's responsible for it. Though it's not true that she's to blame, most of the audience likely knows all too well why the love one has for their family may cause this, and we can understand why she has this sense of responsibility toward her grandchildren especially given that the parents aren't there. We can easily figure out why it's a tough burden for the grandma, which gives gravity to the moment. After healing her, the music conveys the relief to finally see grandma well, and although she still has the same kind of worries related to Aryll's disappearance and the danger that what I can assume to be her only remaining family relatives (I can't tell for sure if I could extend that to friends too, because although she's not seen doing business with the other folk in Outset, I can't tell for sure if she does invest personally in the others) face, she has faith that Link is capable of saving Aryll and so she helps him the best she can. Indeed, grandma is one of the most caring characters I've seen, and the restoration of her on many levels generates the sense of relief I mentioned. The character growth of grandma getting better, feeling less guilty, more confident and having faith in the player makes this moment so powerful because it's a big challenge to face the prospect of dying alone with the "knowledge" that you might be the cause of not seeing the people you love again. I can't understate how important Link and Aryll are for grandma. I think most the evidence points to them being her world. Faced with that prospect, no matter which one would've died first, her or them, the dread is of great magnitude regardless because either case results in total loss. So, when we check up on grandma, heal her, and see that dread being overcome, it's an indication of the hidden strength of grandma which closes the most poignant character arc in Wind Waker, to which we continue the adventure with the strong sense of duty that grandma gives us.
