Vince wanted Rey to win. Maybe it was originally planned for Orton to win, but I believe that because Eddie had passed that previous November, it had to be Rey winning it if for nothing more than the symbolism. Especially since after one particular bit between Rey and Orton went sideways when Orton said to Rey in a promo that "Eddie was burning in hell" (paraphrased I'm sure). Like that was the moment I realized Rey was definitely gonna win. And on top of that, Randy supposedly was really mad at Vince for making him say that on live TV when he was 100% against it. Like there is good heel heat and then there was... what Orton reluctantly did.

Randy is that dude. Orton is HIM! He has said no to winning a few matches that I watched in interviews he was SUPPOSE to be who ended the undertaker's steal but told taker no that he didn't want it. That was when he was the LEGAND killer. And taker is the one that said he wanted it to be Randy Orton. But he was already madly hated and knew that would put him way to far over hated for good probably. Kane was first but he told taker no also. Then he wanted it to be Randy. He didn't even want Brock to be the one cuz Brock didn't need the win. Roman tho taker did want him to beat him so he could retire.

The HBK/Cena saga is false and a lot less interesting in reality. Triple H got injured so HBK stepped in. According to John Cena, HBK took Cena to school and gave him the best match of Cena's career. Being the amateur that Cena was, he extended his hand to shake HBK's which would've killed their angle. HBK being the pro that he is knew that they were going to keep working eachother so he refused the handshake. This was one of those moments where you could actually see how much HBK have matured because back in the 90s he used to love outshining the babyface and burying them in the process. By the end of his career, he really didn't mind doing the unethical thing, even as a babyface.

In foresight, I loathe the win of Rey Mysterio at WM22, they "used" Rey as a proxy to dedicate the win to Eddie Guerrero. I don't have anything to complain about the emotional value of the win, they builded it the best way they could, but again in foresight if they really wanted to honor the memory of Eddie he should had competed for the WWE Championship (at that time in possess of John Cena that took it from Edge at the previous Royal Rumble, the one that Rey won) and not for the WHC. The company honored Eddie by giving one of his best friends the second belt of the promotion, they kept Eddie in such high regard that they didn't thought a single moment about taking away the main title from John Cena even for a small portion of time, insted they let Mysterio be champion for three months straight with a belt that was bigger than himself. The name didn't meant anything at that point, I know, but having the smallest wrestler in the roster win the Heavyweight championship always looked bs to me, they even removed that definition from the belt when he was holding it.
