The pantheon of bartenders and/or cocktail maestros. Picture this: they are sequestered in a windowless room with one cocktail shaker, one bar spoon, one bottle of bitters, one Hawthorn strainer, one bottle of rum and one lemon, and whoever is alive at the end of the televised event is the winner. A fortune could be made. I have the goosebumps just thinking about this...

I knew espresso martini would make the top 5 but surprised I didn't see mojito or old fashioned in the top 5 let alone the top 20!

Same here - but that was the flaw of using views from Difford's Guide - if their mojito recipe doesn't rank well on Google then it will naturally see less views. My next big compilation was created from poll results... so probably more accurate representation of what people like :)

Mojitos, Margaritas and Expresso Martini are pretty popular here in NZ
@ericepperson84093 ай бұрын
The ranking being based on the most SEARCHED cocktails on a UK website, I'm not too surprised the Old Fashioned didn't make it. I feel like it's more of an American drink using Bourbon (or Rye) and is simple enough most people feel like they know the recipe. A lot of these other classic cocktails that make it - like the Margarita or Mai Tai - are something everyone thinks they know until it's time to make one, ie. no pre mix. During the summer my wife and I make Mojitos from mint out of our garden. It's something to enjoy the process as much as the drink. I think most ppl see the process and go for something else easier.

Good to watch you again Steve.. have missed that shaker smile 😁 ive always been a Cosmo girl but would love to give the Pornstar Martini a try! Saline solution is simply salt water. 20g of salt to 80g of water (1:4 ratio). It works well in citrusy drinks by making the drink brighter.

The Porn Star being the #1 is a bit surprising, but then again I'm across the pond in the states. I'd hope that it's popularity becomes a gateway for other Passion Fruit cocktails. Seems a waste to mix it with Vodka so that the only thing you really have for flavors is the fruit and vanilla. Mixing PF with Rum like in a Hurricane, or Gin in a Saturn, or even Bourbon in a Port Light has so much depth of flavors. For a single bottle Mai Tai, or even mixing 2 lower cost Rums, Coruba and Denizen's Merchant Reserve are both excellent choices for something closer to the original intent of the drink. Appleton is a good choice, but comes up a bit lacking next to others category of dark Jamaican Rums.

I noticed in this video you often pour your spirits first and syrups last. Is this just you going down the ingredients list or is that a proper bartender cocktail practice? I have always done syrups/thicker items first and used my citrus and liquors to get the extra syrups that remain in the measuring cup after pouring.
@StevetheBartender_4 ай бұрын
I’ve always done it this way but many bartenders prefer to A) pour cheapest ingredients first and B) syrups first so other ingredients rinse the jigger. Neither is right or wrong. It’s just a preference.

The list is made up of the top pages visited on the Diffords Guide website, so if people already know how to make a drink, they won't need to look it up. That's probably why some very popular drinks didn't show up on the list, people already know how to make them.
@jurgenandrag31814 ай бұрын
@Stephen_Curtin , yes I was wondering about Pimms cups or G&Ts as well. Though Spanish style G&Ts that are a little bit more intricate are very popular here in the southern hemisphere right now.

The list was compiled from the entire year (2023) so it's not seasonal... ranking based on page views has it's downsides ie. if their page doesn't rank well on Google then it will receive way less views.
