Not true. He uses tasteful distortion tones in his solo career starting with the Boomslang album. But yeah, Johnny is definitely one of my all time favourites, if for nothing else, but his creative use of alternate chord voicings.

John Norum was actually the first guitarist of Europe, Kee Marcello joined the band after his departure during 1986-1987, and now currently is in the present lineup of Europe. He was underrated as well

Some other named I would include are guys like Malcolm Young (definitely one of the most underrated guitarists), Prince, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Tommy Shaw from Styx, Tony Hicks from The Hollies and even guys like George Harrison and John Lennon from The Beatles (my reasoning for that is that George’s guitar parts always complimente the songs that Lennon and Paul McCartney write and he can do some amazing solos (All My Loving, I Saw Her Standing There, Till There Was You, Let It Be, The End, etc. and especially with his solo material like his slide playing on My Sweet Lord) and as for Lennon when he’s not doing rhythm guitar also a really good lead player on songs like You Can’t Do That (the first song he ever played lead on, actually), Get Back, I Want You (She’s So Heavy), Come Together, etc. and even some of his solo work)

Damn, why does every underrated list not include Glenn Tipton?!?!?! Judas Priest literally shaped the scene of ALL of 80s metal. Without Priest, 80s metal would be extremely different. Not only that, but Glenn is one of the few guitarists who got progressively technical as the decades went on.

My personal list, favoring American blues players: Roy Buchanan (greatest Telecaster player of all time - absolutely virtuosic), Jack Pearson (pre-dated Derek Trucks in the Allman Brothers Band in the 90s), Joe Walsh (his live work with the power trio James Gang deserves far more recognition), Mike Bloomfield (at his peak, one of the most expressive and aggressive blues players on par with Jeff Beck), and Terry Kath (the 1970 concert footage of Chicago from Tanglewood is a masterpiece).

A couple of my favorite guitars players that I dont hear much about. Vito Bratta, of White Lion. Good enough to rival and in my opinion outplay Eddie Van Halen. Vito was awesome. Vivian Campbell, to play in bands such as Whitesnake, Dio, and Def Leppard, he's a very talented guitar player that I dont think gets the credit he deserves.

Adrian Borland is extremely underrated. He wasn’t flashy, but he knew when to not play and let the bass take over and he wrote some of the catchiest riffs of the 80s. The Sound From the Lions Mouth is my favorite rock album that I recommend people to check out if they haven’t heard it before.

I didn't realize Tremonti was underrated. I started playing guitar learning Creed 20 years ago. Strange choice for his signature riff, though. One Last Breath demonstrates how much he carried that band.

Rik Emmett of Triumph, one of my favorite guitarists - phenomenal blues and hard rock guitarist... and not only can he shred, he sings lead vocals with an incredible voice

Bruce Springsteen is so underrated that he isn't even on most underrated guitarists lists. He's got amazing riffs and solos check out "prove it all night live 1978"

Joe Perry, from aerosmith. He made a lot of great riffs and solos. So Dave Mustaine did on Megadeth and Metallica. Probably, the metal woundn't be the same without him.
