Two things I have found really helpful to stash on the bike somewhere: Alcohol wet wipes and a stuff sack backpack. I used to carry big alcohol wipes to clear bug guts from my visor in a pinch. A 10-pack is thin and fits in an inner pocket of a jacket or under a seat but can be a day-saver on a ride on backroads when you find a swarm of bugs at 60mph. I also kept a backpack under my seat for use in a pinch. Something like my Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Day pack. It packs down to about half the size of your fist but expands out to a 22L drybag. I've used it to pick up groceries after a ride, pack out trash I found on the road, or carry in a lunch and then stash the bag for the rest of the ride.

@@CanyonChasers I'm just hazarding a guess, but I think when you're not hearing every single rattle, mechanical sound or little bit of air movement, your mind has less input that will cause a reaction. Even if we're good at staying calm and without undue tension, stopping the aural barrage really helps. Speaking of which, I'll need to try that sample pack. I've long used earbuds and got some custom ones recently, but the custom ones really started hurting on my trip across Australia, and I think the seal broke and let noise in anyway. The trauma caused tinnitus and an infection I've just gotten over. A friend lent me some decent quality foam plugs - the comfort and noise suppression was unparalleled. I love the idea of reusable ones like Pinlock and NoNoise plugs, but for me they just don't compare to good quality foam plugs (and my right ear is very weirdly shaped). Also, 90 degree valve stems for the tyres, especially as I have spoked rims. And not plastic ones; my mechanic informed me they're prone to leaking and hears constant complaints about them on track days. Get metal ones.

@@thomasolson8417 I believe that if you hit a tree directly enough, and hard enough, to break the shell of the facebar, your neck will be broken. I also believe the shell material is constant between a full face and modular helmet from the same manufacturer. The full face's facebar is capped with compression foam, so it "looks" more substantial (I assume you are using the chinstrap and you will not hit against the inside of the facebar). I agree, I thought modulars looked goofy. I bought one, anyway. A month later, I vowed to never wear a full face, again. However, the only time I ride with the facebar up is when entering a gas station. When lifted, it looks like big lever to snap my neck, if I were to slide on the tarmac.

Picking up a basic abba stand is worth it.. on a budget without the extra supports you can do the front end by weighting the rear seat with some bags of cement or something. Once the front wheel is out it will sit fine. With this stand you can do front and back with just one stand, and it supports at the suspension pivot and doesn't get in the way much so for any big jobs A handy tool to have. Having a small jumpstart kit is pretty handy if you can stowe it under a seat for those times when a battery is dead. Some come with a light built in which is handy for roadside crap at night. Also. Essential really.. if you dont have a center stand on your bike Always have a flat piece of something solid enough to take your bikes weight through the sidestand with a footprint like your hand or bigger. Because.. on anything less than solid tarmac or concrete your bike might not stay upright that long.

Hi from newfoundland, Great list! Check most on my list if I could add an airbag vest just ordered one and I think has the potential to be added on the list. I'll c once put through my review! All the best, keep up the great content Chuck

I'm really excited about more airbag technology. Seeing how they save folks bacon on the track, it should be in more street gear (but I'll be keeping the armor in my elbows, shoulders and knees in any case 😎)

Agree! When I zip up my A-Stars airbag vest, it is like a warm hug of safety!! It is a bit of a pain to put on with my tracksuit, but that is what friends are for.

Apparently, we have nearly opposite choices in what is important. Quality torque wrench-yes. Lift...had one for years, never use it. Earplugs, yes. Headsets, absolutely not. Garmin.some of the worst garbage I've ever wasted money on. 5 gallon jugs absolutely suck, along with those dumb tubes. Two gallon Roto-Pax is where it is at.

Thats hilarious. I can't imagine not using a table. But the 5 gallon jug sucked until I got the valve thing.

Your last point regarding tinted visors seems backwards to me. I prefer a clear visor with an inner sun visor. No need to carry anything extra (sun glasses) and if you wear prescription glasses, then it also makes more sense this way. Otherwise, love your videos and have found them very supportive to my riding skill development.
@CanyonChasers8 ай бұрын
Inner sun visor helmets have lower safety ratings because you are sacraficing a lot of padding in the helmet where we are most likely to have an impact. Modular helmets also suffer from this. That notwithstanding, my personal experience with the inner sun visors, is the seam of the edge of the inner visor is always in my eye line creating distortion. So despite giving them tries on multiple occasions, they just don't work for me.

@@CanyonChasers Like you I have had poor experiences with visors in the past, but a couple of years ago I got a Nexx Villjord Carbon helmet. Aside from being a highly rated modular helmet (I live in the tropics and need to flip at lights & junctions), the visor actually goes low enough to not interrupt my vision. I absolutely love this helmet!

@@CanyonChasers I have to wear glasses for riding... so I just got the "transition" lenses to wear on my bike. It solves the problem of not needing to change out my visor for day/night riding.

I wish photochromatic visors were available for more helmets.

I do 99% of my riding in the sun, so I'm going to optimize for that condition and have a clear pair of glasses for that 1% of times I'm caught out after dark. If I rode mostly at night, it would be the other way around.

I figured a basic tool set was in the same category as the motorcycle. Same thing with a tire pressure gauge, etc.

I am going to need a Trailer.. Everything Else.. Eh/No. I just had a 81 Honda CB750 Custom Rebuilt. The Shop in my town, About the only one anywhere near and know what they are doing, Are Pretty Damn Affordable. $5,000 Rebuild/Parts and Labor and Took Payments.. Ear Plugs?? You must be one of those F'n Harley Guys with The SUPER LOUD EXHAUST!!! Mine is Stock and Is Vary Tolerable. Most people say they can't even hear me pull up or pull out.. ( that's what she said ).. Flex Fit Baseball Cap Works to keep the Sun out for me.. Up to 50mph anyway.. Helmets are HARD to Find in My Size. Can't Test Fit any from Amazon to see if they do... And No Bike Shops Selling New Ones anywhere near me. Repair Shop, Yes. Sell Helmets that Fit.. No..
You don't need a lift. Yes sure is comfortable, but only if you are a mechanic and doing this stuff every day it pays itself. Some KZbinrs loose the grip on reality.
@CanyonChasers7 ай бұрын
You don't _need_ a motorcycle either. I had a lift long before I had a KZbin channel. Its something I don't want to be without.

My Honda has only required filters, chains, oil and tires my whole riding life. Why the hell would anyone need an expensive lift to change their wheels, oil, or add a slip on? Hey, you gotta make a living, but this upload is a 12 minute advertisement.

Who in their right mind would get upset over someone else wearing a dark visor??? 😂😂 😂 Unless, of course, the advice was that you should ride without helmet altogether 😂
