Galaxy Quest was marketed as a screwball parody of Star Trek and a biting satire of William Shatner's ego (during his Boston Legal phase when everyone loved the Shat) so the fandom stayed away. Instead it turned out to be a love letter to the fandom and a gentle mocking of sci-fi tropes, which is why it is so beloved today.

I agree. I love Galaxy Quest, and I'm a big fan of the original Star Trek series. A friend requested I watch Galaxy Quest with him, and I loved it. Sure, it makes some jokes about Shatner. Who doesn't? But I see it as a tribute to Trek and its fans.

When I was a kid, there was a trailer on the VHS for Ninja Turtles II. It was for a movie called "Stepkids," presenting itself as a comedy about a girl dealing with the massive extended family resulting from her parents' divorces and remarriages. "The Brady Bunch from Hell," as she calls it. Years later, I found out it released as "Big Girls Don't Cry," and it's actually a drama. I have no idea what the story was behind the scenes, but there you go.

I remember that. I didn't know it was released under a different name.

Idc what anyone says, i liked Suicide Squad. Was it life changing? No. Was it the best movie I've ever seen? No. But it was alright. It was fun and dark and Captain Boomerang was silly enough to make me chuckle more than once.

Spider-man’s trailer was filmed in such a campy way, I can’t believe anyone would believe that that was how the movie was actually gonna be. Same with the first trailer for The Phantom Menace, but in reverse. There’s was no way the movie was gonna look that good for the entire runtime.
@Beardificent14 күн бұрын
unless you were a fan of spider-man and realised how sick the trailer was and the hype it generated. none of the Marvel movies come close to how good Spider-Man looks.

That’s nothing, when I was kid. I thought the commercials for Predator were advertising a sequel to Commando. My mom and I were quite surprised to discover how wrong I was.

Lmao You know how they show like half a frame of the ship footage and then just cut to the disgusted crews face? I was like no I gotta see if they actually showed anything, took me a minute but the one frame shown for like a millisecond is this older white dude (the captain I think?) covered in blood, clearly naked (but only showing from the chest up) and him very tensed up, grimacing and gritting his teeth while some chick behind him checks his prostate with a foreign object. Great movie lol.

That Spider-Man teaser only ever looked like it was a teaser. I never once thought, even as a middle school kid, that that was footage from the actual movie. It’s clearly designed to be promotional material. It’s no different than the 2009 Star Trek teaser where it’s just a construction crew building the enterprise with voiceover. None of that footage appeared in the final film and was never intended to be anything more than a teaser.

The Joker belongs in a Suicide Squad movie the way Chainsaw Man belongs in an Airbender movie. Or if you shoved Pikachu into a Digimon movie. Or the Cloverfield monster in a Godzilla vs Kong movie. I could do this all day.

@WhatCulture This list falls under the trope "Missing Trailer scenes".
@donharris837114 күн бұрын
Just as WhatCulture keeps repeating the same couple dozen movies (tee hee, JK!), I keep bringing up Clive Barker's Nightbreed whose trailers depicted it as yet another slasher movie, as opposed to the actual story about a band of innocent (for the most part) Monsters being hunted by the local sheriff and his band of un-merry men.
