Travel Costa Rica NOW is back with our medical/dental tourism and all around health guy, insurance include, Johnny. These are the MUST DO's before you move to Costa Rica, while you are living in Costa Rica and while you are obtaining your residency. You do not want to learn this the hard way.
CHECK IT OUT, '10 MUST DO's - Health Insurance in Costa Rica - Don't Learn the Hard Way'
A few of our video concerning Medical/Dental Tourism in Mexico that you never saw-

Medical Tourism the 101 in Mexico • Medical Tourism the 10...
Thinking about liposuction, breast augmentation, stem cell therapy, hip replacement, cosmetic surgery or anything dental? Want to contact Johnny and inquire about how he can help you (whether it's Mexico or Costa Rica? GO to our website TravelCostaRicaNOW.com scroll down a bit a fill out the quick form and I will shoot it over to Johnny ASAP.
Johnny is our medical and dental tourism GURU. It's hard to navigate all the internet information about medical and dental tourism, as the options seem limitless. Can you pick a good doctor and facility in Costa Rica or Mexico? Yes, you can do it yourself which may have a little luck involved but Johnny knows can cut through all the crap because he knows the good doctors, bad doctors, who has malpractice insurance and who doesn't, who uses the latest equipment or who seems to being using outdated machines and where is that particular service or specialty cheaper? For example, CIMA is the hospital that many gringos know but there are a few other hospitals just as top-notch as CIMA and are probably at least a little cheaper. Johnny knows this. Do you need someone to hold your hand or just a little help getting acclimated in another country? Want to combine your 'medical tourism' with a day of ziplining or a night at the hotsprings? Johnny can also make that happen. Johnny is a face, a name and someone you can talk to personally. He is also transparent in the prices and honest.

Hey Mike...Years ago my husband had a heart issue right before he came to CR. He had travel insurance and only wanted the ticket covered. Even though he had no medical heart history in any of his exams they considered it a pre-existing. That is an example of med. things that can be considered pre-existing. On Med. Flights...a Canadian friend had a stroke in Manuel Antonio. They flew him to San Jose for emergency services. The company tried billing the Canadian gov. $84,000 for his flight. It was eventually negotiated down to the $20k+. My mom's emergency flight was $16,000.00 and I believe was negotiated down to $12,500.00. It can be a crazy expense. Great information was shared today. Thanks this is important sheit. Your yt shorts are cray!!

Hi guys! I'm a bit confused about something... you said that a girl broke her wrist and then took a helicopter flight to San Jose. Because it was considered an ambulance ride, the insurance refused the claim. But then, you said if you walk into a hospital that it's not considered an emergency because you're ambulatory. Get an ambulance to take you in order to get bumped up on the hospital priority list. Those two things seem conflicting to me. Can you please elaborate? ❤️ Travel Costa Rica Now. 👍 Great program. 😊 Thanks, and keep it up. And keep bringing Johnny back; he's a well spring of useful information. You too, Mike. Bless you both!

Not the most exciting topic but one of the most important. And for those of us who are just visiting CR from the US and have US health insurance, generally emergencies in foreign countries are covered-just like if you were rushed to any ER in the US. However, please speak with your insurance company to confirm and ask their process just in case. Again, this is for tourists, not expats.

We just got our residency. Went to the clinic we’re assigned to. We told them we wanted to see a Doctor to get our prescriptions filled. Said great. See you in two months. Lol. In any case, we’ll go back to get our free scripts. BUT, we’ll continue to use the private clinic if we get sick or for minor issues. I wouldn’t take a dog to the clinic we were assigned to. And we do use Medismart and yes you do get a discount because I’d been there before my discount card and after I had it. $250.00/ yr for my wife and I. Hope this helps.

Not everything he is saying is correct! My wife came to see my doctor in San Antonio, Texas for a Medical Evaluation. She had a stroke in 2023. During her Medical Evaluation it was determined she was not Prescribed the proper medication. It was not available in Costa Rica. My doctor Prescribed and she returned to Costa Rica with a 3 month supply. I recently sent a 90 day prescription using DHL. The bottles had her name and it was confiscated by Customs. We will have to pay Ministry $300 to have the Prescribed Prescriptions added to Ministry Medication List before it will be released by Costa Rica Customs. The medication will prevent future strokes, heart attacks or death.

Might be better to travel to Panama, buy the needed medication, and bring it back. They also stole my medication I ordered from the US. You can call it “confiscate”, but they stole it plain and simple. Nothing, absolutely nothing involved with the government works smoothly here.

I was a Pensionado Resident starting in 2007 and paid into CAJA monthly. I am also Retired Military Veteran. I do have Tricare For Life and got reimbursed for my Replacement Surgery (Estimate $30K). In 2012 I had Left Knee Total Knee Replacement at Clinica Biblically Hospital. In 2013 I had to return to the U.S. for Revision Surgery. Five surgeries later I’m still here. Had surgery #7 in July, 2023 and hope to return in 2024. Hope my Pensionado Residency can be restored!

Hey Michael, with my experience in Costa Rica I would like to add that most Gringos when they get old go back home in the end , I guess for medical reasons. I know in Canada the medical is way better than the US but not as great as it used to be . I have had so much medical appointments lately here , I imagine that would not be possible in Costa Rica or Mexico. There is no perfect place in the world ....

Caja is good for simple things, regular appointments, but if you need a specialist to save your life, it’s a gamble. I spent two months at San Juan de Dios, which is the best that Caja can offer, and it was busier than Disneyland. Lines everywhere, people everywhere. I was a patient in Caja being transferred, and I still sat in the public lobby, in my hospital clothes, for 8 hours as they didn’t even have a bed available.

Broke my leg in a motorcycle accident, it took them 3 weeks to do the corrective surgery. The Caja infected me with E-coil. When they sent me home, the infectologist didn’t even read my charts to see my infection was resistant to Cipro. I ended up back in the Caja with sepsis, which can kill you easily. 9 months, 11 surgeries, and I still haven’t healed properly and need to visit CIMA to get another surgery. Bottom line, if you need specialists the Caja is not the place to go. The doctors don’t even talk or explain things, I felt like I was treated like a dog at the veterinary. There is a whole lot more I could say….just be aware there is no hurry here to treat you. When you see how many Tico’s are missing arms and legs, perhaps now you understand a bit more.

Too bad all the foreign folks ruined Costa Rica. Most properties are way overpriced now. The thing I hate the most is the Gringo pricing, that’s the deal breaker for me. Brasil is way better in my opinion but most people don’t want to go there full time and that’s great. Less foreigners, less BS. Almost 5 to 1 US dollar exchange rate as of today.

Brazil…..I see many videos of the out of control violence there. Yes it is more expensive here, but there is a reason for it. It is far safer.
7 ай бұрын
Safe ? What does that mean? I’ve been to both countries with no problems whatsoever. I guess if you look and dress like a gringo then you may have problems anywhere you go.

Does not surprise me, this guy sounds like a salesman but good info, no one can predict the future. The reality is that Costa Rica is about money, perhaps more or as much as Corporate greed in the west. It's about money and middle class is not enough, you need to be Rich to access services in Costa Rica, only the very wealthy can by pass the greed because folks are getting paid so no need for scam or gringo prices. The only solution is don't get ill or have an accident in Costa Rica, that's the only way your not going to pay an arm and leg.
