I appreciate you too sweetie! I’m impressed with all that you do!! This video was very informative. Another trick for opening stubborn jars is to turn it upside down and bang it down on a thick carpet. Most times you can hear a swoosh sound that will indicate the seal has been broken. (Yes, the pots were from Kohl’s but are sold in many places too.) 😘

I use those silicone mats to wraps stuff short term as a saran wrap alternative, I also freeze my fruit on them so I can easily flick them off the mat to a Tupperware. So handy

I have circulon pans and I LOVE them. I also occasionally spread a really thin layer of sunflower oil on them and let them sit at medium heat on the burner for about ten minutes, because I’m not the greatest at taking care of my nonstick cookware. And I’m definitely going to look into that canning funnel.

I have a nice scar on my thumb from a mandolin. Haha. But, like you said, still a very helpful tool and it's true, it's definitely cumbersome to use the slider thing. I have a couple small metal mesh strainers, but the big ones seem awesome now that you brought up those extra and unintended uses. Great video!

decent knives are sooo useful! I highly recommend a good large bread knife as they are great for tomato and cabbage as well as bread. Also I love small knives just for fruit and veg, I rarely need a big knife

That was very helpful! I need that funnel, and definitely a good knife. My favorite are the silicone mats. I have two but they're tiny, yet they're the best thing I own because I like baking and I used not to do it as often because of the cleaning. Thanks for sharing!

Mercer is another good and inexpensive brand of kives, specifically their Millennia line. Their bread knife, bun particular is a steal. When I bought mine a few years ago, it was less than $13. Currently $18.88 on Amazon. Oh, and never use a glass cutting board, unless you really enjoy having a dull knife.
@sarah_kale5 жыл бұрын
If you have trouble opening a glass jar use the end of a small spoon or fork, jam it in the small space between the lid and the jar and just lift the spoon or fork a tiny bit. You'll hear a plopping sound and the lid will come off super easily, because this method breaks the vacuum that holds the lid on tightly.

Great video. But don't forget to take care of your cutting board and your knives (if they have wooden handles), washing them in soap and water will dry out the wood. Use something like Cutting Board Oil by Howard (make sure what you get is made with food grade mineral oil esp. for your cutting boards) on you knife handles and cutting boards to protect them and they'll last longer as well :)

Aww there are so many things I really wanna invest in now hahaha :D Also, everyone please be careful when sharpening your knives. If you do it wrong, you can 'angle' your knives wrong and then there is a greater choice to cut yourself (of not cut your food evenly anymore). And you shouldn't sharpen your knives too often either (yes, I actually took a class at school that tought us knive skills lol) - it can get too thin tho and there are a lot of things that can happen from this (regarding your own safety and your food safety) ♥

Hey Caitlin, great video! I've been working on my kitchen for the last year and it's finally coming together. I just need to get a mandolin! I also like the way you store your silicone mats... I need to do that. Would you mind linking the article where you read about the plastic cutting boards? My boyfriend thinks that wood cutting boards are unsanitary.
@nitsan6 жыл бұрын
Nice. I need a mandolin for making some veggie noodles. And I agree with you on the knife and cutting board. I really like my wood board. It's also my plate a lot of the time. BTW, Dr Bernard doesn't recommend cast iron, for long term brain health. Also if you ever want a knife that's designed with safety in mind, then the Opinel Le Petit Chef is great. I love that it doesn't have a point at the tip, so I don't feel like I'll accidentally stab myself in the face. lol

For those who don’t want an extra gizmo, if you can’t open a jar bang the edge of the lid against the counter. If it doesn’t work bang harder. It will honestly always work eventually, I feel dumb that I’m 25 and only learnt this trick last year.

i actually heard the opposite about plastic vs wood cutting boards. with wood cutting boards, your knife slits create wet air pockets that house bacteria, which is why people switched to plastic. if you really want to keep your wood cutting board sanitized, you should shave the top layer off your board every now and then

GUYS!! You DONT need a knife sharpener !! My bf showed me this : just slide the edge of your knife across the underside of a mug, where the ceramic is raw and not painted. Thats all you need !!
@Leo-dj3zg6 жыл бұрын
cookiecarooi that’s a false life hack. Ruins the mug overtime, the grains of the mug are uneven so you don’t get an even blade. Investing in a £10 knife sharpener isn’t much if you care about cooking at all
@cookiecarooi6 жыл бұрын
@@Leo-dj3zg the mug doesnt get bothered, its just the perimeter of what it stands on, that doesnt really ruin it. and it really makes a difference for my knife, so its been working so far. so i can save buying another thing i dont actually need ;)
@Leo-dj3zg6 жыл бұрын
@@cookiecarooi You do you, but i wouldnt advise people to do this when it could damage their knife
@brennathompson38546 жыл бұрын
That is incorrect on two counts - that is not sharpening and you need to invest in a product or pay someone for sharpening. What you are describing is honing. Honing realigns the blade of the knife which is split by cutting, but once the blade has been worn down you need to sharpen it to create a new blade. Ceramic honing rods cost less than $10 and have even grains, unlike most mugs.
