My favs about Japan were books by Takashi Matsuoka, he is actually a Japanese American author from Hawaii, and writes in English (but I read his books in Russian translation), the books are called "Cloud of Sparrows" and "Autumn Bridge". Among other books I can also recommend "A Summer in a Pioneer Tie", Russian LGBT+ book which is banned by the government, I guess there should be English translation somewhere
