So, if anything, the record company gets most of it, since musicians are paid by record companies. Grohl gets royalties for the Nirvana songs he penned, but not for the ones Kurt wrote. They belong to Kurt Cobain, or in the event of his death, his estate (Courtney and Bean, in this case). Dave has no right to Kurt's songwriting royalties (unless Kurt allows it in his will).

I'm 26 and when I was 12 and 13 motley crue was my favorite band. I had all of their albums and a bunch of merch and I had the whole set of the shout at the devil action figures that each came with a piece of Tommy's drums. I was obsessed with them. My point though is that even back then they were old and nobody my age even knew who they were and people that did thought I was weird for liking them. I grew up in Louisville though. Its just interesting that fifteen years later every kid knows who they are and they are all of the sudden very relevant again. You're probably right though I'd say none of that has anything to do with the movie at all that makes sense.
