Dave "The Snake" Sabo and Sebastian Bach (Skid Row). Feud between John Lennon and Paul McCartney was way too famous though I do not categorize them as "the Guitarist and the Singer." a singer and a singer, a songwriter and a songwriter, could be a singer and a bassist, or rather, a music genius and another genius.

@@ZERBOTHEGREAT uh huh...right...so when a band/artist doesn't change its lineup but does change its name (not to mention the namesake of the band was in the group before Dave), that makes them "new"? Interesting logic. Wonder what you thought when Prince changed his name all those times.
@ZERBOTHEGREAT
@ZERBOTHEGREAT Жыл бұрын
@@ryandonovan5895 Let me start by saying that I wasn't trying to be snarky; just stating an opinion. As far as Prince goes; the man was egomaniacal and was subject to do anything on a whim. Eddie and Alex were in a couple of bands before settling on the name Van Halen. The original lineup of Mammoth was Eddie, Alex and a dude named Mark Stone on Bass. Stone was eventually replaced by Michael "Heavenly Background Vocals" Anthony. Diamond Dave came along shortly their after and suggested the name to the brothers and the rest is history. I was just saying that when they took on the name of Van Halen Dave was the lead singer and thus the first lead singer for Van Halen. No snark intended.

My dad always used to tell me this story (and I certainly can’t guarantee the truth to it, but I’ve definitely found sooommeee validity to it from personal research): There was a guy in my dad’s architecture classes who just… wasn’t getting the hang of it. He tried incredibly hard every day to master the art and science of it… but it just wasn’t happening. One day, the professor took this guy aside in the middle of class with a really heavy heart and straight up broke the news to him. “You just don’t have what it takes to do this kind of career.” My dad and the other students sadly watched as this guy grabbed all of his equipment in class and walked out with his head hung low. A few years later, that same guy was on stage singing alongside Paul Simon. He found his place in life. ❤️

This is not an uncommon story told about most famous musicians in some form, whether it be their parents or teachers or even bands that discarded them. Lennon was told he was making a mistake by auntie Mimi. Jimi Hendrix kicked out of Little Richard’s and Isley Brother’s bands. Elvis was told by a school music teacher he had no particular acumen to hold a tune. CCR were rejected by Bill Graham when they asked to play at Fillmore West in ‘68. Mick Jagger turned down Stevie Ray Vaughn on Stone’s label because he didn’t want to promote a hillbilly, the Beatles were rejected by Decca. Syd Barrett kicked out of a band that mourned their decision, dedicating at least two entire albums proclaiming his genius, their love for him and his influence. Hell, Paul Simon himself said Dylan had no talent many times. It should be said that these setbacks may have sparked a determination to succeed. These musicians often cite these rejections in their art, interviews and memoirs as key motivating events that drove them into a near revenge-like ambition to prove their detractors wrong. As I think of musicians, a good % of them tell this same story. But I never heard this story before so I am grateful you shared it, especially as it has such a direct and personal link to you. Best, Andy.

What about John and Tom Fogerty, of Creedence Clearwater Revival? It's been about 50 years they split, and Tom had to rename the band in order to avoid a lawsuit by John. And then they're Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith. In the early 1980s, arguments between the two which were fueled by drug use led to Joe being kicked out of the band. Fortunately, a few years later, Run-DMC reunited them, and Aerosmith enjoyed a renaissance that lasted for nearly two decades.

Saying that Eddie Van Halen held his fire about Dave is simply wrong. He gave several interviews to guitar magazines where he accused Roth of having "LSD" or "lead singer's disease." Roger Waters stepped up big time when Syd Barrett left the band. David gives Roger credit for doing great. But Roger's success in the role made him become very stubborn on how he wanted things to sound. One story in particular is the song "Comfortably Numb" - apparently the two where not happy with the tempo or timing on the song - they couldn't agree. Both dug in, both got a few things adjusted and David said something to the effect that neither one of us still hears the same thing and neither one of us is probably right. David is a good guy. The band went on to make some awesome music - one of my favorites is "Learning To Fly." The tone and "sound" of Pink Floyd definitely remained in tact without Roger. Too bad he couldn't see their sound was truly collaborative...

They never reconciled and the surviving John says he is not troubled by it at all. I am 60 and my 65 yr brother died last month…it does not trouble me that we never became close and I avoided all of his services. We were in a band for 22 years. He resented that he had to share anything with me my entire life while when young i worshipped my older brother. A weird dynamic about love; that if you love someone it lasts even if you wind up not liking each other; whereas, if you only like someone (not love them) you can simply stop liking them and things are resolved.

Astonishing how Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora didn’t make the list. After a few years of rumours about Richie’s unprofessionalism caused by too much drink, he just quit the band mid tour and didn’t even give them a word of warning- just didn’t show up to the venue. If that didn’t earn a place on the list, I don’t know what does tbh!

There is so much more to that whole situation than what Jon has carefully lead people to believe about it, but without writing a whole page about the shifting dynamic of that band in the past 15 years, I'll just say I think the reason it's not on the list is because there's never been any malice between them and the door has always been open for Richie's return. Jon has stated that himself. Yes, there was tension for awhile, but they did reunite for their RnRHOF induction and reportedly are on good terms and have even been in contact with each other.

Richie stepped away from the band to be with his daughter and to get clean. It's appears that Richie will be coming back into the Bon Jovi fold. I haven't seen the band since Richie left. I know Jon's voice is not like it used to be. I like Dio, but many will say he was an egomaniac...only surpassed by his wife. Vivian's talent is his talent, Ronnie did not create him, he stifled his songwriting. Whitesnake, Riverdogs, Shadow Kings, Def Leppard, Last in Line...Vivian is an incredible talent, and a very, very nice guy.

Tho I love the Beatles and Stones, the best music from UK in mid sixties was made by the Kinks; overall. The Beatles had great melodies, maybe better than the Kinks but Ray’s lyrical crafting was superior until the Beatles caught up to them on Rubber Soul. I would add that The Animals were making better rock and roll than any of them for those early years. More recently: Jon Anderson & Steve Howe of Yes. Founding member Jon had been with the band thru nigh every incarnation of Yes since 1968, but had throat/lungs trouble in the late noughties. Nevertheless, Howe insisted the band continue without him with a few different singers, putting out albums with Benoit David (later re-recorded with Trevor Horn) and Jon Davison. Anderson then got together with Yes alumni Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin for a rival band playing much of the same material before they were all inducted into the RRHOF. Regrettably, the two have not been working together since.

I always thought Valerie Bertinelli (Eddie Van Halen's wife) wasn't happy with how David Lee Roth constantly tried to pull Eddie into wild parties that weren't the best thing for a married guy to be in. It was my understanding Eddie wouldn't party (good man) with Roth and they ended up at odds, so DLR left. Sammy Hagar didn't bring that to the band, so it worked out well. Consider that Eddie and Valerie divorced in 2007 - the same year David Lee Roth rejoined Van Halen. Probably just coincidence...

@@joanhoffmann871 I wish that were not true, but it doesn't surprise me. Sometimes you see certain couples and think to yourself - "they just don't seem to fit" - That's how it seemed with them. Same with Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. But after they (V and E) had been together for so long, I thought he stopped doing stuff like that. If he never did, Valerie is an even better person than I already thought she was...

I saw Mac twice and loved them. Fast forward a few years and Nicks was touring with John Farnham. It was by far, THE WORST performance I have ever seen..EVER. The first show, Farnham went first and was amazing..as usual. Half the crowd left when Nicks came on she was so bad. The next show Nicks went first and was almost booed off stage. I seen many, many concerts in my years but she was THE WORST by far. Suzy Quatro held that position since 1974. Perhaps she was stoned but she sounded nothing like her records! I wouldn't go and see Stevie Nicks again if I was given the flight, accommodation and free tickets!!

He's an excellent guitarist too. F. Mac was, of course, a guitar orientated band for some year more to being a vocal band. I personally would of much rather seen Nicks get the boot instead of him, he is much more talented. I always thought she was a real flake and a half, but at least half the audience that shows up to their concerts are Stevie Nicks fans, she sells seats.
