Rad Radford was more memorable in WCW where he also did commentary and was teamed with Scott Hall. Although he died at age 27. Had he lived he might have made an impact behind the mic and he was certainly better than most of the commentators around at the moment, and had the respect of Bobby Heenan.

Idea for a list: Matches that made careers. It'd be awesome to look at the matches that got guys like Bret Hart and The Rock over into main event status. For example, I know Triple H has said his street fight with Mick Foley was the match that inspired both management and the fans alike to accept him as a major player. I'd love to hear about more matches like that.

Man Mountain Rock aka Maxx Payne, grew up in Michigan and made a name for himself in a variety of different ways before getting into professional wrestling. His real name is Darryl Peterson. In high school he played football for a spell and wrestled, where he was good enough to get a scholarship. He was also discovered and starred in the 1979 film TAKEDOWN with Lorenzo Lamas and Edward Herrmann. Not sure how, because it wasn't a scholarship, but he ended up at Iowa State University where he wrestled on the Cyclone varsity wrestling team at HWT. He took fifth place at the 1985 NCAA Division I Championships, in which every match he wrestled in ended in a fall. Either he pinned his opponent or his opponent pinned him. He was awarded the Gorriaran award for the most amount of falls in the least amount of time. After college he made a go of trying to get back into the movies, and ended up doing security and bodyguard positions out in the Los Angeles area. He had very, very moderate success getting small gigs like being an extra in television series and movies. It was then he was discovered and trained as a pro wrestler. A short run with the WWE and then a short run with WCW, his professional wrestling days were short and not well remembered. Over the past 20 years, I know he lived in Iowa for a while as well as Michigan and California.

The interesting thing about the Jean-Pierre LaFitte gimmick is that the eye patch came first. While he didn't wear it in the ring before that, he had received an eye injury when he was a kid and had to wear it sometimes. This was apparently noticed and BAM! pirate. :P

I love remembering short lived gimmicks. I like the quick flash of Friar Fergusson (aka Bastian Booger, "you gotta pick Booger to win") at the beginning. Hard to say what your counting, because some the guys like Oscar and Jean-Pierre had a decent run with PPV appearances, to Tank...oh Tank. When the internet was young and new, I remember desperately trying to find information on this generic name that appeared in the faction. I may be crossing eras but here's 15 more: Tekno Team 2000, Rockabilly, The Grimm Twins (Skull & 8-ball before DOA, but after Jacob & Eli Blu)), Angus & Wildo Jynx (aka Hardy Boyz), The Stalker, The Sultan, Babu (Tiger Ali Singh's manager), Shinji (Hakushi's manager), Tennessee Lee, Southern Justice, Charlie Minn, Stephanie Wyand, Who, Avatar and all the luchadors (like Max Mini, Heavy Metal, Discovery, LIzmark etc., but I guess they were more guests)

As a child, I understood the occupation gimmicks as simply a way to put a character together the way people would expect them to be. I was a fan of Duke "The Dumpster" Droese (sp?), Man Mountain Rock, and TJ Hopper. Also, when I saw Rad Radford on the list, it triggered thoughts of Man Mountain Rock. I fondly remember being a subscriber to the WWF magazine and the pretty decent articles they had on each superstar. How about this for a trip: Remember the Karate Fighters tournament? The toy was shit, but when WWF promoted it, I absolutely had to have them. I also remember WWF did a fighter comparison between Kama and TJ Combo (from Killer Instinct). That alone got me interested in something else other than playing Super Mario World, Street Fighter II, and WWF Royal Rumble on the SNES.
