im a little scared that with this tool, games are going to aim to look realistic much more often, and that might lower the amount of stylized games we get. i can agree that realistic games are very cool, but i dont want to loose all the games that look cool because of their unique looks that stand out. For comparison, paintings that look exactly like real life are cool as they show the skill an artist has, but it takes much more skill to do a unique painting with a particular style that can stand out
@CrabSully2 жыл бұрын
I think there's still going to be a market for stylised games, especially in the indie space. You also have the Japanese market that loves stylisation. I think at this point, we have a pretty healthy mix of different visuals.
@ids10242 жыл бұрын
It could be the opposite. As games get closer to perfect realism, a developer can no longer make their game stand out as much by making it the most visually impressive and realistic. But a distinct style can still stand out (though "realistic" can also vary plenty stylistically). Like with painting, to some extend photo-realism became less popular as photography make it easy to accurately capture scenes.
@JohnJohn-pm9wq2 жыл бұрын
It's easier to create a realistic scenario on environments with more concrete and metal objects. Also the train station scene is very less diverse so its easier for the light to reflect and spread realistically. It's not going to be the same in other places. For example frostbite engine, we have seen how frostbite engine looks realistic in deserts and areas with buildings but they seem to degrade and become less believable when there is foliage. And most of the graphics we saw above this level of graphics I doubt is scalable in applied in large scale. Since the stuff we saw is done is a very small space, the GPU is entirely focused on rendering that small area alone but it's not going to be the same when applied on large scale
@cenciende94012 жыл бұрын
All you have to do is look at how many different visual styles of games there are on UE4 to not worry about that

I don’t think stylized games will go away. We’ve had the ability to make pretty real looking stuff for a while now, but stylized games have still been able to thrive. Even though Sifu has lower graphical fidelity, the game does a better job at selling me the illusion of the game world than a lot of these demos. The art direction is consistent, sharp, and achieves visual clarity. The animations and interactions with the environment sell the grounded combat and setting. What people have to understand is that actual games are not going to be looking as good as stuff like the train station demo for a LONG time. It's only able to look that good because everything is being thrown into making it look good, with nothing going into the gameplay experience, or...you know, literally ANYTHING else that makes a game. Like, literally anyone can make something that looks that realistic with technology these days, but actually implementing that into a full game is something else entirely. I really couldn't care less if a studio wants to make the graphic look hyper realistic if it means the game plays at so few frames that you play it by mailing off screenshots as postcards and waiting for replies. Which is basically what's gonna end up happening; that and absolutely garbage implementation of gameplay to fit around limitations imposed by all the technical tricky used to make the graphics look so good. I don't think most people actually know about the kinds of tricky used in game development. As any developer will tell you, game programming is all about using duct tape to hold nonsense programming together, to fool people into being impressed by something that'd look awful if they could see beyond what the camera is showing them.
@msonisama86562 жыл бұрын
nah nah they will or more like they CAN, maybe not AS realistic while gaming but mostly, like 80%, why you may ask, it's cuz it's as you say, the techs are that advanced, take reshade, a simple but WONDEROUS tool that you can use to make 10yr old games feel new, if you know how to use it good, what makes you think a good dev can do if an individual can pull off a train station like that, maybe try Metro Exodus again, even without rtx it's fkin BEAUTIFUL, and in enhanced edition it's out of the world. In the hands of good devs, UE5's gonna create wonders cuz it's reducing like 20-30% workload cuz of it's technologies lumen and nanite, atleast in theory and I haven't heard any complaints yet, lumen can handle a vast part of lighting which can be used as base and nanite reducing the use of resources, extra textures and settings based graphics, making it much easier for them to focus on other things, it's as good as it says bruh, all this is after watching and understanding lots since it was announced. The basic fact is, it is absolutely possible in a generic AAA game's development time.

That describes some developers, sure, not all. It really doesn't help that you pre-order everything so a game can release unfinished and then you buy it anyway.

I'm 48 years old in NYC. I remember going to Sears with my dad and buying Atari. I went from playing Pong with graphics of 2 lines and a dot to these graphics in this video. Now tell me, how much do I appreciate the graphics in the video we just saw bro?

Reimagining.Tomorrowland is recreating chunks of Disneyland in Unreal and some of it is stunningly accurate. It's always cool to see easily recognizable real world locations. He also did a "reimagining" of tomorrowland that isn't accurate, but looks instead like a really nice update to it.

Pretty cool seeing what the latest Unreal engine looks like! Some amazing life like effects and video features. I haven't played games in a while but I would love to see what a next gen game looks like on the latest PC or Next Gen Console.

That train station is 200% accurate. I used to live in Japan for a few years and I named what station that was before you even named it. High praise to the creator, they nailed it!! 😳😳
