Best sounding carburetor car I used to own was a Mini Clubman S with a Cooper S 1310cc engine! The rebuilt engine replacing the original 1100cc one I had fitted with a rally cam, & as it had for some reason a non-factory manifold having stud-holes which could accept larger 1&1/2" SU twin carbs (fortunately found an odd matching one at a wreckers). After grinding out the manifold to match the carburetor venturis, installing the engine with headers/extractors & straight-thru muffler, & with a bit of trial & error with needles , I had that Mini sounding & performing totally awesome! Was even asked whether it had a V8 in it! It was a full conversion with the disc-brakes, a Rover brake-booster, dual-tanks, in one of the last Aussie Minis to have hydrolastic-suspension (pumped-up, with shocks & adjustable negative-camber arms fitted), running widened rims & rubber!

Yeah...but not to worry. The straight 6 sounds better than the V12 anyway. :-D
@jackharrisonbrown15987 жыл бұрын
aussiebloke609 Indeed it does! More reliable too with the added bonus of a sweeter note. We have a 4.2 Jag straight 6 putting out around 285bhp and 300ib/ft of torque in a 1970 Ford Capri Mk1
@aussiebloke6097 жыл бұрын
Damn...that's gotta be a tight fit. I remember the old Capri...pretty sure it wasn't designed with a straight 6 in mind. :-D
@Tom-Lahaye7 жыл бұрын
And the inline 6 has as much horses as the V12 and just a bit less torque, the V12 actualy is the cheapest E type you can buy because most don't want this version with all it's added trouble and maintenance costs.

Noteworthy: the Cosworth YB is distantly related to the 2.3L OHC I4 used in Ford Pintos and Mustangs (basically different branches of the same evolutionary tree). Like the Cosworth, the Pinto/Mustang 2.3L absolutely loves boost and has been seen putting out over 1,000 horsepower with enough of it.

The early grey motors were different castings and not interchangable with the red/blue/black engines even though they look similar, so you're really talking 64-85 (EH-VK). The VL used the Nissan RB30 and the VN onwards used the Buick V6. Yeah the XU-1 Torries were quick, but a lot of that was power to weight ratio being 300-400 kg lighter than the Falcon GT, also the triples were a bitch to tune and keep tuned, the second they got out of tune the Falcons would just disappear in the distance (same thing with the 6 pack Chargers).

Hey there luddite! Why even bother having an electric fuel pump? Why even bother having a fuel pump at all! Gravity feed is so much more pure! I bet you're the sort of grognard that hates electronic ignition. Carbs and points ignition and drum brakes deserve to be abandoned and forgotten. Furthermore, even when restoring a very old car the piece of shit drum brakes should be thrown in the garbage and replaced with the biggest vented rotor disc brakes possible.
