In the OG Twilight Zone episode "it's a wonderful life" there is a jack-in-the-box "death". That iconic scene cannot be topped by any other movie or show.

Sugar Smacks became Honey Smacks I believe. The company wanted to get rid of the word "sugar" to make them seem healthier I believe. Also, I loved Corn Pops! LOL

Revenge of the Dead is the ultimate bait and switch with vhs covers. The cover has a cool zombie busting out of the ground while the movie is a very zombie-less giallo film.

I’m right there with Mel on Dead Alive with a touch of a different perspective. Had no idea what to expect. Picked it for an 8th grade graduation party where the hosts barfed. Still one of my fav zombie films of all time. Love this content, guys! This is the fun part of fandom to explore

Great Halloween 4 VHS cover art made the lame mask in the movie even more disappointing; I kinda wish they could H20-CGI-in the Shatner mask over it in scenes. Slaughter High's cover is fantastic, the movie is bad. Chopping Mall's cover with zombie hand made me think it'd be a zombie slasher or something, but still a fun killer robot movie. Back to Halloween, I'm surprised I didn't expect Michael to be wearing a killer jack-o-lantern on his head in part 1.

Good subject, you should do more vids with just Mel! Never felt deceived by most of these, including Child's Play 2 and Sleepaway Camp 2. After I rented SC 2 I didn't even recall the cover girl as not being Pamela Springsteen. If they did the poster after they probably didn't think Springsteen was "sexy" enough to sell the film. If they did it before they cast Springsteen then they just used some generic good looking model knowing they were going to have a female killer. I don't think I'd seen any of the Puppet Master or Demonic Toys films yet when I saw Child's Play 2, so I never had any expectation of the Jack in the box being in the movie. I learned early on in my horror VHS renting days that the cover didn't necessarily reflect the content or often the quality of the actual film. The cover was just something that could pull you in and get your attention. I would read the first 2-3 lines on the back of boxes if I wanted just a little bit of info, but also learned not to read the entire back as they often gave too much away, like some trailers.

The Sleepaway Camp 2 vhs artwork was turned into a poster and t-shirt by Terror Threads. Felissa Rose is the female on the poster and t-shirt.

Part 5 is actually my favorite Friday The 13th film, but that VHS cover was a good pick for this. Also totally agree about Elves. One of the best “so bad it’s good” movies. It totally deserves a good Blu-Ray release.

Chopping Mall fulled me big time. I’m shocked you or Mel didn’t say ‘Halloween 4’. That mask is awesome on the cover and then we get the H4 mask 🤣 and he’s wearing shoulder pads.

Also with Monkey Shines, again you gotta remember poster art is very much that, ART. Alot of times it's just figurative or symbolic of the storyline, and not so much literal. P.S. Critters did have a big Critter in it.

@@Born2BeRad I actually agree with Jesse - a lot of your readings of posters are *excessively* literal. Plenty of iconic posters have something that doesn't literally appear in the movie. Hell, even the ALIEN poster depicts an egg that looks nothing like the eggs in the film. At no point in JAWS do we see a shark as big as the one on the poster - same with the Critters. I feel that the Child's Play 2 Jack-In-The-Box symbolizes the concept of playtime itself - Chucky, at his core, is this dangerous disruptive influence blending in with the fun, safe world of kids toys. That's not "digging a little too deep" in my opinion, it's just more conceptual than literal.

I haven’t watched the video yet, but did they mention Halloween 4 and 5? Both have closeups of Nick Castle’s mask from Halloween 1, when the masks in each movie look very different. Part 4 cover art shows him carrying Annie Brackett’s body out of the Doyle house from part 1. This did not appear in part 4.

Not a horror movie but my dad who is a huge Bruce Lee fan one day wanted to rent the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie because the back of the box showed Robin Shou as Liu Kang in a fighting pose, I had to explain my dad that the MK movie was garbage based off an even trashier video game.

Monkey Shines is the one that pissed me off the most as a kid, I thought it was going to be a killer toy monkey slaughtering people with a straight razor and other weapons but....nope! Instead, it was some psychological horror thriller with a real monkey (which I thought was massively lame at the time) and not a gory slasher with a big body count. I thought the movie was boring as hell and sucked big time back then, but I like it now as an adult since I understand what it's going for, the VHS cover made it look like Child's Play with a Monkey and from the same studio MGM lol.....ridiculous and shameless false advertising just to make a quick buck.

The Child's Play 2 poster wasn't misleading, it was just a visual joke that went with the tag line "Sorry Jack, Chucky's back". I never got the impression that there'd be a Jack in the box IN the film.
