I totally agree. Since I’ve been more ruthless with donating things I don’t use, I’ve got a surplus of bins to donate now lol😂

I had that same problem. Plus I just love bins anyways. Cute ones. Good ones. Etc. 😂😂 I gave away the stuff then I gave away some bins. Lol.

For years I have wanted cabinets put above my washer and dryer. Last year my husband gave me the tax return. I thought finally! Then before I hired someone to put the cabinets in, I thought I should go through the mess and clear off the shelf that is above the washer and dryer. When I finished decluttering and organized everything back into the original bins that I have used for years there. Guess what? I didn't need the cabinets. Instead I bought some beautiful peel and stick wallpaper. My laundry room looks beautiful and has stayed organized. Who knew? I surprised myself. I think the mindset that had given up on what I had and instead focusing on what I didn't have was all the difference. My journey in minimalism has taught me how to value what I have and to make decisions that are practical and simply beautiful in my home. Being able to function with less has enriched my life so much. Thanks for helping me along this journey and to this realization. Bless you and your family.

"DECLUTTERING solves your clutter problem." 😆 Yessss! I also love bins and donating *any* of them used to be unthinkable. I recently realized that I've always had this weird attachment to my organization bins...Whhhhyyyyy? So I recently cleaned out a small storage space where I stored, you guessed it, empty bins! 😮 I donated 85% of them and kept some that are tried and true to work in my home. I even took a picture of the bins pile before I donated them to commemorate my breakthrough 😅 Great video, as always! ❤

This is the best advice ever! You have to declutter before you can realistically organize (otherwise you are organizing your clutter - this is insanity!!). Love your channel, love your honesty, and love your #youcandoit uplifting spirit.

It’s nice to have a different perspective of decluttering. I did the buy the bins thinking that was the right solution and it was such a waste when I started getting rid of things.

Thank you! I have recently come to the conclusion I need a functional home rather than a Pinterest perfect home. I use all clear bins in my home (NOT in rainbow order) so I can quickly see what I have and I actually use it when I can see it. I did this in my sons room too, I got some clean bins at Target that fit perfectly in his Ikea Kallax units, he can see the toys he has and he has actually been playing with them more.

I buy paper bags and lunch bags and fold them to the inside to make baskets. They are perfect because you can put a second bag on top for a lid and because they are paper they bend so that they always got into a drawer. And as your storage needs change over time, they are about 15 cents and are recyclable. It's how i organize on shelves and inside drawers very cheaply

Your channel has helped me so much with realizing what clutter vs mess is (especially that specific video!) and it’s part of how I’ve been building a giant donate pile!! Love your videos. So glad someone finally said that about the home edit! Their videos and solutions are awesome but the marketing needs work 😅

When I was finished organizing my beach finds, I covered some shoe boxes with pretty wallpaper & labeled them: shells, driftwood, other. They won't be stored long term, so I didn't want to invest in plastics bins, but also didn't want ugly shoe boxes to be seen sitting on a shelf. Labels save SO. MUCH. TIME.

Even as a cricket, too many detailed containers is too much. Idk about other crickets, but to me if I only have one thing in a bin, I wonder why I need a bin? I would call that unnecessary redundancy. 😂😂 As a former accountant, this is how my brain works tho. Like on a financial statement, if you have one transaction in a whole year, and you put it in a super specific account by itself, it sticks out and is weird so I didn’t like making categories for just one thing. I often stuck the item with the most similar other items. I think it’s the same with stuff tho. One always reminds me of another. Well one other accounting principle is to not spend a lot of time analyzing small things like being less than a dollar off (unless your bank balance is off-that’s a diff animal like the tip of an iceberg that needs looking into lol). Put your time on more significant accounts. So in auditing they have this term where they call it “pass.” And in the tax world, less than a dollar anywhere never really matters. Lol. If it doesn’t REALLY matter, you can just write “pass” on it. Lol. But that’s what accounting really is tho. It’s just organizing money and assets, etc. And simply Bcuz efficiency matters more than being precise to the extreme Bcuz a bin holding only one thing is just wasting space. So I agree. Overall I would say only be specific to the degree that it matters. But as a cricket, if I have a handful of several meds, I do group them like “digestive” “vitamins” “pain” “allergy/cold” and so on. And then I also have a group for “daily use” which goes in the front and gets priority over the others. I also love quirky old furniture so I wound up using a lot of small drawers (and some large drawers) for many things and didn’t need as many bins. The curated pieces serve to spice up the room (in my preferred shabby chic kind of way lol) AND hold my stuff and almost organize it for me. Lol. I love the way the pieces look and I love how they are also useful to me. I also love the quality Bcuz it’s all real wood and mostly hand crafted. They hold up practically forever and if you want to change up the look after awhile, you can refinish or just paint them or just rearrange them. And as your needs change over time, you can also change up where the stuff goes inside of them.
