I also tried white towels. They just don't stay white with our extremely hard water. I now go for dark towels...charcoal gray or navy...depending on which bathroom I need them in. Thanks for the decluttering motivation 😊

Can I ask why the esthetic is so important? If it’s functional, keep using the towels even if they don’t look perfect. Not everything is able to get recycled like she mentions in the video, and everything comes at a cost to the environment. I also think there is special white-specific detergent that anyone with white towels could try out.

This is the kind of decluttering video that is really helpful. You take us through each item and the why of letting it go. I also have a purse, a sweater and a vase and other decor that I’ve been struggling to let go. Thanks.😊

I'm a firm believer in not donating stained clothes - just recycle. While some thrift stores may recycle them, you never really know so it's best to cut out the middle man. As a shopper at a thrift store, there's nothing worse than finding something you like and discovering it's stained. Or worse, not noticing until you get it home.

The best thing to do is put stained clothes in a separate bag and let them know that they are stained. They use those to send to foreign countries where people have nothing they sell them by the pound, and they appreciate them, and they will not put them on the floor.

The glass decor that was chipped, I would keep as a vase only &/or repurpose it as I did to a glass vase I have that was a center piece from my cousins 50th anniversary party. Put those decorative rocks/stones halfway up the vase. Put 3-5 battery-operated tealights on top of the rocks/stones. I added a decorative flower I did not know what to do with that I pushed into the rocks/stones and the vase came with a decorative gold bow that was around the vase already waaa-laaa you made something to use in your home or give as a gift.

As for the white linens....definitely a personal opinion on how you want to live your life for sure. For me, minimalism isn't just about having fewer things, it's also largely about having MORE TIME. Which means the less maintenance our things and our homes require, the better I feel, the happier I am, and the more time I can spend with family or doing the things I love. Stripping linens, even once every few months, is NOT my happy place. If it were me, I'd focus on making sure I'm using laundry detergent that doesn't build up, or maybe doing an extra rinse cycle with my linens. I NEVER use fabric softeners or sheets on anything, I don't even own them, and all our clothes and linens are still soft. Buy colors that won't stain easily, and just replace them every 5 or so years. My latest AHA moment was realizing how much easier things would be if all my towels in every bathroom were the same. That way no one is asking which towels they can use, or just using the wrong ones and annoying me ;) Simplify. Look at the maintenance of an item just as much as the function or beauty aspects. Just look at how much worry and headspace those white towels are taking up for you ;) :)

I've also donated already burned candles as long as they're barely burned. I actually often give them to friends/family if they want them. Usually one of them will like the scent. As for the vase, definitely trash it. You absolutely cannot use it with food because microscopic pieces can keep chipping off and going into the food. Also, not all glassware is food safe, they can have toxins in them that were never meant for food. So only use something like that for food when you know for sure it was labeled food safe when you got it :) Not all glass is equal.

Hi. You might try several coats of clear nail polish to cover the chipped rim of that glass item so it isnt as sharp. Or you can try filing it with a very fine sandpaper to smooth it out. The red bowls are perfect to hold chips at a backyard party, or to hand wash very fine linens, or possibly to tiedye a clothing item if the bowl can handle hot water. You can even use it to bring potato salad or macaroni salad to a party, or you can fill it with ice and use it as a base under any item that needs to be kept cold, like a bowl of shrimp. Lots of uses!

We entertain a lot so those plastic bowls would be great for chips; popcorn; chex mixes; etc. I bleach my white towels and use Tide pods (I use Earth Breeze sheets - I don't think these keep my towels white). Silver polishing cloths work great on tarnished jewelry even when they are not silver. It takes a while to get in all the nooks and crannies of chains. In the end, I tossed all but the most sentimental item my sister gave me after they tarnished again. Usually it just isn’t worth it.

I as well went with white towels a few years ago. Loved them at first but did need to always bleach them. Gradually they turned dingy. But before that they were developing holes like mad! I’m thinking it was the bleach or they just don’t make towels like they used to. These were from Costco.

I think if the glass has a small chip, you can use it for nonfood items. I wouldn't donate it. The gray item...why not use it to put the kids socks/underwear in it or is it too small? Any stained clothes get worn at home if they still fit as clothes will always get stained at some point in time if it's worn often and you have it for a long time. I loved white towels at first. I changed my mind...hate it. I got rid of them all.

My husband usually asks me to go through his things about twice a year to get rid of anything I don’t think he needs… it’s a little annoying because I’m not him so I won’t necessarily have the same feelings toward his items that he might, but it’s worked really well for the last 10 years. I ask him about anything that isn’t communal or worn. If it’s clothing that’s damaged beyond my repair abilities then I either donate or recycle. If it’s a communal item I’ll make the decision unless it’s something I know he uses then I’ll ask. And for things that only belong to him I ask every single time, because who knows if he changed his mind about a Barny stuffed animal from the 80s?😂
