One of my tips especially in the early game when wood production and building is essential is to ensure all non gender specific roles (Mayor, market stalls etc) are covered by women to free up more men to work in the forestry or as builders. This can also be used longer in the game as required by ensuring farm managers, counsellors and granary workers etc are covered by women to ensure more males are available for producing essential resources.
@PatmosIV3 жыл бұрын
That is a very smart ting to do! I do that to! Didn't make these 10 tips, but maybe it should have. Really good use of the laborforce is important!

@@PatmosIV > " I do that to!" *TOO! ;) Although, I wonder why this game is so misogynic. Women do all these jobs in my home village (Thailand) as well, even with 3, 4, or 5 children around! (well, don't take it TOO serious) :)

Males can also carry more and use carts as labourers. Women can only use carts as workers but usually in those situations (market / granary /warehouse) you'll have strictly women employed and it (should be) a short distance for them to transport goods. This means you can set them to worker by hand and you'll save on labourers and cart use

I've found it's good to get a cowshed and dairy up after the initial essentials are set up, gives you some jobs for women and a new source of food. I like starting with 1 bull and 2 cows and just letting the herd grow naturally. Another handy thing I realised is it's worth building an orchard in your second year, largest size, then build 1 more each year. Leave the first orchard for 4 years and from that point you'll have a fresh harvest of fruit every year as each orchard matures

Super tutorial dude. I took 12 months away from the game and completely forgot how to play. You likely already know now that one of the maps has infinite iron. I tried this map yesterday trying to play off memory, and it went horribly wrong. I'm not a super fan of the map to be honest, but now you have refreshed my memory its time for round two. The issue I found on the map with iron is that there isn't a lot of space to build farms. Lots of uneven terrain and trees

I found it's handy to have some normal houses as they will buy up the excess produced by the houses with gardens. I found the default garden size will provide a standard family with about 1/3 of their yearly need. Houses with double the default size will produce enough for themselves and at least 1 other family, this changes as the family grows ofc. I found early on the houses with land do not purchase much and unless you have normal houses for them to sell their excess to they end up just sitting on large stocks of food, neither selling it or buying more so it's just stagnant money. Also the stockpile of food / profit they're not selling will also perish after a while. I like building 4 initial huge "plantation" houses and they provide enough food for many houses. I also buy their peas and honey but don't sell it, honey can be traded later on and I keep stockpiling peas to have incase there's an emergency and I mess up my farms one year.

I found out, through experimentation, that the fastest way to build your first 9 houses before it snows is to build those houses around the camp like a picture frame. Cram all of your production buildings as close to the camp as possible. Walking time is a great consideration. It's really too bad we can't have a really flat map or one that resembles the RL Ukraine of the late 1700s.
@PatmosIV2 жыл бұрын
Very true! But usually that way it conflicts with how I want my town to take shape! But surely the most efficient way to get everything in time is to build all around your starting camp.
@PrimeNPC Жыл бұрын
If the initial set up of Forestry, Clay and Housing is all very close to each other and you use max builders you can get 4 houses and their gardens set up and sown ready for harvest a few months later!

Btw, running into debt gets you no penalties expect that you can't intimate trade yourself but the other villages will reach out themselves anyways. @@PatmosIV Most helpful tips were about the counselor: seasonal management, soil management, and the "small economy". Really learned first play thru - buy finished goods in the begining. On trade I thought you had to have it in export stock to sell - not so, quite helpful. Also figured out a key tip on managers/counselors - make sure you have a 1/5 educated person available or those jobs go unfilled, important to keep track of who they are. I'd like to see a guide on how to use-build-maintain carts and "by hand" - killed off a coop of chickens and a herd of cows even with the river platform - going to go by hand only after this. This could get into wagon use, vehicles in general. This may be the best builder of this kind I've played, certainly like I find the world map gives me a strong "Shadow and Stone" feel. Recently picked up the re-vamp of Pharaoh, similarly educational, but this one really makes you explore how "bread doesn't just come from the store". Finally - when does child become eligible for labor and when do they become adults?
@PatmosIV Жыл бұрын
Great to hear this really helped. I will try to answer some of your questions: The main thing with workers in all animal buildings is, that you need to fully stock your buildings with the food and water the animals need, before you buy any animals. And you can adjust how much a bit in the settings for each building. Usually its set to like 300 wheat and water, and I tend to make all 500. So there is plenty in. Then of course you need to make sure that there is a big enough supply of new food from your farms and granary's. So another thing to make sure is that you set up food production first so you know you will always have enough food to feed your chickens for instance. The workers also do not need to be in the building actually feeding the chickens, they eat on their own, so having the workers also gather water and food can help. And in addition to that make sure you get laborers that use carts for supply. And for some production buildings you don't want your workers to go out gather for stuff (because they are not producing then) so you turn that off and only let laborers with cards supply them. Make sure you have enough laborers and cards all over your town to do so. Regarding kids: From age 10-15 they are eligible to go to school if you have one. They can gain 1 education point for going to school. As they turn 16 they count as adults and will do all the work. Kids 10-15 can also do minor labor work like getting water for the house, buy food and some carrying tasks. I hope this answers some of your questions! I have a few playlists with bigger cities if you want to see some more of how to run a bigger town. Its actually not that hard. Keeping things a little simple with this game is usually the best way to go!
@KG-1 Жыл бұрын
@@PatmosIV One thing I'm going to do too, based on your point about selling charcoal and getting the ladies working earlier: build the forestry right away and start on houses and when there's some firewood, get two charcoal pits going, alternate with building the remaining houses. Also, I'm going to mark trees to cut right away to clear land for building in a more planned way. From your town in this video I'm imagining a cross plan - put the granary and the town hall facing each other at 9 o'clock, with enough room for the 4 stalls at the granary. The trading post goes at 12 o'clock arranged so the four stalls face 6 o'clock, warehouse out back. the six house building legs spoking out to serve the farm at 3, the next one spoking south at 6, putting goods making, cart stuff at 5 and 7. All of the above leaving the original camp site, turning into a large square, probably for the church and the school. This time will fence off an area right away for the graveyard.

Putting down a bunch of max-size farm fields right away can be risky because they only start growing once the whole field is sowed, so if you dont have enough spare laborers to get it done quickly you might be losing out on some produce...
@PatmosIV Жыл бұрын
Well it's not the most ideal thing to do, that is true. Although its not that risky since the town is so small that it will produce enough food anyway, but it is better to start of with smaller fields. I found that out a little after this video was made. Well it can be helpful to add 4 people to the forestry for a short time to have them accumulate some trees. Hi there! Thank you for your question. I think I got what your asking for. Farming: Sowing start 1st of march and ends 31th of may. Growth starts as soon as a field is sown in. Growing ends Juli 15th. Then the ripening starts. That takes a month. August 15th Harvest starts till 31th of October (1st of november the winter starts) When winter starts all remaining crops are removed from your farm. Fishing: you can fish from March 1st till October 31th. In winter the lakes are frozen and no fishing can be done. The smeltery and all other buildings that require running water won't work in winter as well. Animals can go to a fallow field from the 1st of March till the end of October. Have any gold tips? I’m in debt and people need gold and I’ve done your less spent gold tip but I’m not able to do much and i don’t know if I should keep it like that or not
@PatmosIV2 жыл бұрын
Not really a gold tip.. Maybe just try again with the tips from the video. I'm going to record they build along episode for a city start tomorrow. It should be coming online sunday. Then you can really just build-along with me and hopefully get a nice city going!

I can't figure out what to do with bark I have 50 thousand units of bark do you know what to use it for?
@PatmosIV2 жыл бұрын
Well Bark is used in the tannery. They you is to make leather from cowskin and sheepskin. You will also need lime and water. But its all explained if you go to the tannery in the building screen and click the little question mark above it. You will need quite some bark though for tanning. So having some in store is good. 50K might be a bit much though;-)

@@PatmosIV yes I Iactually read it right before you responded I feel so stupid... all the information is in there .....I just never had built the tannery at that point but now I have a town over 400 people it's looking great and I got two tanneries going I'm just waiting for the production I can't get the salt works to go I don't have enough draft horses to work the salt works I guess I got a whole bunch of horse stables they may be taking up my draft horse orders at this point I'm also building small village homes without a yard to increase the population because of footprint is small I'm learning so much every day it's incredible thank you I may have more questions in the future
@PatmosIV2 жыл бұрын
@@FFxtomkat No problem! Don't worry about it! Glad you found it and now you have working Tanneries. I believe you can also put to oxen in the saltworks. Then it should also work. But you have to make them oxen first (or draft horses) and then you have to drag then one at a time to the saltworks. As soon as you have done that with two oxen or two draft horses the saltworks will start working. Enjoy the game! Wish I could see your town! Feel free to ask any questions!

I don’t know why but I just can’t get 9 houses in time before winter I had as many builders and foresters but it wouldn’t work
@PatmosIV2 жыл бұрын
That is most unfortunate. Most common issue is walking distance. People build the first 9 houses to far away from the clay and wood etc. My plan is to make a video in the coming weeks showing a complete village start in a build along version. So that anyone can just build along and get a start with 9 houses before the end of the year. I hope that helps if nothing else can solve your problem for now.

You should always start with 9 men and 9 woman. Only the amount of kids can be different each time. Its hard for me to give advise without seeying what happend. Did you pause to save time while planning etc? I hope my new video can help you soon. I’ll try to have it ready by sunday.

HOW DO I MOVE MATERIALS TO SMITTY?
@PatmosIV3 жыл бұрын
As soon as you have people in the smithy they will get the stuff they need. All you need to do is make sure you have charcoal and Iron close to it. You can build a charcoal pit next tot the smithy so that is close. And if you build a warehouse close to it and fill it with Iron they can get everything they need themselves. You can trade for Iron as soon as you run out of iron!

anyone got a good mid game tax set up cuz me i go to high or im going to low i just cant find the sweet spot
@PatmosIV3 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I haven't found it yet. Just trying to keep taxes in a rate that only a hand full of homes can't afford it so that I have to give them some money. Mostly making money with trading. That's a good way to fill the treasury. I'm also kinda hoping there isn't a real sweet spot and while going along having to adjust all the time is should be part of the game, since your villages changes as well. Would be great if they build it just like that so that its dynamic and needs attention all of the time. Makes it feel more realistic. But that's just my thoughts.
