You do have to make sure that your RAM is compatible with XMP 2.0 though. When I bought mine, it appeared as though it was, but, when you enable XMP, the RAM rate remains the same. I have to keep it enabled though as when I turned it off I got BSOD's during installations. When I turned it on again, the BSOD's stopped. Not ideal, but, I'll get the right RAM for my next build. I'd recomend using MSI Afterburner to set a custom fan curve, even without overclocking. GPUs love to run with slow fan speeds to avoid noise, but if you're in game with a headset there's little reason not to turn the fans up to keep the GPU cooler - it tends to help reduce stuttering and also lets nvidia boost do its thing reliably

I am not sure but when I bought I started using this DVI cable and it works, I am not sure if there are different types of DVI cable, I dont know why there are different types of DVI cables, but it seems that I have the right one. Anyway I checked the manual and there is a complex chart that you can derive that the conclusion was right, but honestly, they should be more specific with this. Like graphics, or the concrete explanation about how to rech the 144hz "you need this cable, it is called like this and that". Don't overclock. If you don't know what it is you don't need it. Boost algoritms nowadays can pretty much squeeze out every bit of power from modern hardware. Focus on improving thermals. Actually the best and easier (still quite advanced) skill is being able to undervolt. You get more thermal headroom for the boost algorithms to work, less power consumption and less noise, while maintaining performance and lenghtening hardware lifespan, at the only rare risk of having bad crash that can corrupt the os, and some work to find stability but still less than overclocking, for this reason undervolting is an advanced skill too and you shouldn't try it without guidance. *Procedures are hardware specific.

With number 6 what you're saying doesn't seem to match what you're showing, and is very confusing. You constantly say "full screen borderless" which doesn't exist. Full screen is just that, it uses the entire screen and Windows will focus on that game. Windowed Borderless is what mimics full screen mode but allows background apps to use more CPU power. At 6:35 you imply "windowed" is what you want, but I'm sure you mean to set that option to "fullscreen." Also in most games, regardless of what screen mode the game is set, pressing ALT-ENTER will force (most) games (and apps) to go into full screen mode, and back to Windowed mode. This works with GTAV.

I feel like whenever vsync is mentioned, it needs to be clarified as far as vsync vs freesync vs g-sync. Not everyone understands the differences. Especially don't say "turn vsync off" while showing a graphic of freesync. vsync is an old, software based solution to eliminate tearing that is controversial at best. It introduces input lag, it can decrease performance, etc. Some people like it (or tolerate it), some people despise it. freesync and g-sync are newer technologies that are hardware based in the monitor. They are adaptive so the fps doesn't have to be capped and tearing is eliminated, and without a performance hit. freesync and g-sync are awesome and should always be used (afaik). However, they are hardware based as I said and monitors equipped with them are more expensive. Although they have come down in price, and freesync especially in available on many lower cost monitors.
@KalebSDay2 жыл бұрын
Gsync and f-sync still give some input lag, it's just negligible. If you're using it, I do recommend limiting your max fps in nvidia control panel 3/4 under your max monitor hz rate. Those two only work within your monitors capabilities/max hz. If you're a super competitive gamer and can push fps way higher than your monitor, you may want to play vanilla and take advantage of seeing the newest frame possible.

Nvidia reflex works on directX 11 games as long as it's been implemented in-game. There are are a few where it works.

One thing for overclocking your PC, make sure to save a pre-overclock bios profile before doing this because it will change settings you will never find in the BIOS, is if you have an AMD Ryzen CPU, use AMDs Ryzen Master to overclock the CPU. It works wonders automatically overclocking both the CPU and the RAM with little to no effort or risk as long as you don't mess with it too much and have a power supply that can feed it.

Fun tip for task manager if you don't have always on top enabled, and run into the issue mentioned in the video. Open task manager, make sure it's the active application, then hit alt, arrow left, arrow down, enter. Hitting alt in pretty much any application will open the menu bar, and you can navigate with arrows and select with enter. So doing hit alt will open the menu, left to get to options, down to open that submenu, then enter since always on top is the first option to enable it.

TY! Built my PC earlier this year and these tips have really helped out. Especially the task manager always on top. Some games on steam will lock up my pc and now I can easily get out of them.

Mouse acceleration does NOT do what you said it does. That said, it should be disabled indeed

If you CTRL-AlT-Del and the task manager doesn’t appear on top of your game, you can always just log out as well. That will shutdown all your running apps as well and you don’t have to risk a soft or hard reset and risk corrupting a hard drive As far as enhancement software. Nothing is going to make your PC run better then it did when it was fresh with a new Windows build. But there is software out there that helps cleanup crap that Windows doesn’t do a good job cleaning up. Also software that helps keep your drivers up to date is nice. Mostly for your motherboard controllers which people often forget to update. And I’m to old school to trust Microsoft’s anti-virus software. I’ll run a reputable third party one any day.

Nah just do alt + w, open another desktop and open task manager there ... Works 99% of the time. Make sure task manager is closed on the main desktop first.

Another work around for the task manager thing, at least on Win 10... if you hit the windows key and tab, it brings you to a different version of the switch program screen, and then if you click the plus sign on the top left labelled "new desktop", it brings you to a new virtual desktop which won't be displaying the game. Sort of like having 2 monitors. So, from there, you open task manager on the new desktop, and viola, problem solved, close the screwed up game, close the virtual desktop, throw your controller across the room, then go make a snack while you try to find the will to recover from the corrupted save file that the game crash just caused... (this may have happened to me a time or 5)

I was going to say i hope most people would already know all of these but then i seen the description! a helpful video for newcomers to pc gaming. I overclocked the crap out of my fe 3080ti on a waterblock just to mess about on 3dmark and see how far i could push it and it was rather impressive but i put it back to stock it's more than enough overkill for gaming at 1440p 144hz right now and i'd rather not start getting random issues and not knowing if it's the overclock or the game or something else... for the most part i won't bother with overclocking.

Last tip is mostly right but for a decent blanket/across the board game performance improvement... Give Razer Cortex a shot. In my experience, especially with low/mid range pc's I get a decent (20-25) fps bump and with not being able to upgrade graphics cards right now (or for the foreseeable) its a useful tool.
