Great show! I'd recommend looking into Ven. Matt Talbot, an Irish ascetic, who if canonized would likely become the Patron Saint of alcoholics. He became a heavy drinker at 12 years old and it wasn't until his late 20s when he finally became sober. He became very devoted to Christ and lived a life of self-denial while working a manual labor job. Despite the fact he made very little money he was known to be very generous and charitable with what little he had. He even refused his strike pay and asked that it be distributed among his fellow workers. He awoke early every morning so that he could attend Mass before work and spend his Sundays attending multiple Masses. I've felt a particular devotion to him as someone who has struggled with alcoholism myself. Whenever I feel down and want to beat myself up I like to reflect on one of his quotes "Never be too hard on the man who can’t give up drink. It’s as hard to give up the drink as it is to raise the dead to life again. But both are possible and even easy for our Lord. We have only to depend on him"
@capecodder043 жыл бұрын
That's awesome I've heard of Matt Talbot before but did not know this history about him I have been sober for over 10 years and last year completed steps 1 through 8 and I'm still working on steps 9 through 12. I'll have to read about his story.

Sainthood shouldn't be dispensed out like Pez candy, less it loses its mystique and luster. Simply being popular shouldn't be the criteria for sainthood.
