Thanks for mentioning weight up front. That is one thing I recommend people look for is something lighter. Also you are correct that generally you go 10 miles or less. Another thing if you are going further than normal you can ride somewhat in level 0 (no power assist) to increase your range. We often load our bikes onto a bike rack and weight is a big issue. One question If you buy a brand like Aventon or Velotric how much more does the bike cost if you buy it from the local bike shop? I tend to recommend those brands because people can try before they buy. But I have never purchased these brands.

Having helped friends buy a Velotric & Aventon, we found both available at Local Bike Shop within 60 miles of Seattle for same prices as buying directly. The LBS ordered the bikes, assembled and make proper adjustments for the same cost as purchasing on line (including honoring Black Friday sale prices). What is not to like about that?!? Aventon LBS are far more common than Velotrics. Some Aimee & Lectric Bike models are also starting to show up in some LBS, at least in the Seattle area. Another option is look for e bike rental places for test rides. A bonus is that rentals places often replace their rental models annually and you may be able to pick up a low mileage, well maintained used bike a great price.

Dan pretty much nailed it. I've seen the exact same price and I've also seen up charges for assembly - I think it just depends on the bike shop.

Santa put an XP 3.0 under the Christmas tree for us this year. New Years was celebrated by opening our box of new accessories recommended by this channel. The SENA helmets with Matrix are awesome. Thanks for all the great info, products, links and advice 😊

Nice video and sound advice overall. I'm a fan of cargo bikes and have been researching the perfect first ebike for myself for the past 3 months now. The problem I am finding is every time I think I have found the one for me, I discover or stumble on another name brand that appeals to me even moreso. I went from Lectric, to Aventon, then Heybike, Letrigo and now Engwe. I'm really diggin the new LE20 cargo ebike they have. Especially the price. The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger is that I do not believe they are UL certified? I wonder what your thoughts are since you have an affinity for cargo ebikes as well.

I think putting motor power into perspective is important to prevent over-buying (or ignoring Torque ratings in favor of higher power numbers). Even a 250W nominal motor is actually pretty strong (equivalent to a fairly "advanced" cyclist, beginners put out, what, 50-100W per google?) and can get you to ~18mph (flat no wind). If you want to maintain 20mph up a 10%+ grade that's different of course... People see for example a spec sheet of 250W nominal/600W peak Bosch motors with 85 nM torque and think that's weak.... having never experienced it.

I watched a very interesting and fun video called 25 ev's you've never seen . And as cool as they were, I can't really see them on american roads because they will fail collision parameters for safety. They are too small and light and dangerous. Do you see road laws changing to adapt to these new ev's?

Aventon has an F rating from the BBB. Lectric has a B+ rating. Customer service is important.

I don't know if BBB is the data point I'd use to determine good vs bad customer service. Maybe one data point

I see you promoting the xp lite foldable so what's your thoughts on the kbo k series? They say it's a good bike for beginners and they have a Valentine's Day sale that's reallyyyyy tempting me right now

Haven't reviewed a KBO in a while. My concern would just be customer support. I'd do more digging there as I truly don't know
