Agree with 99% of the video...i enjoyed it... I think escape from poverty is easier said than done for most living in poverty tho. Escape is the exception rather than the rule, as the odds are stacked against you. In poverty, there is rarely someone successful to give you guidance. You are surrounded and indoctrinated with the mindset and values associated with poverty often leading to mistakes and bad decisions that help keep you there. Poor education, or even worse, maybe having to choose between staying in school to get a sub-par education while missing meals and work for a bright future, or drop out and work 2 minimum wage jobs or sell drugs to pay for a roof and food today... Rock and a hard place... Those that make it, often make their own way, against the odds, and must go against the current, maybe even making unbelievable sacrafices the average person isnt willing to make. Sorry for the long sermon , and this is a whole other conversation.

I know you think the things you said about Baltimore is funny but I know the good in Baltimore and I'm not on drugs have a great career and I'm proud to call Baltimore home. I live in Baltimore too, and I can not understand the mentality of murdering people over kindergarten type issues. The maturity of our people in Baltimore is stuck in childhood. They have no control over their emotions. Kinda of stunned in their growth or way behind in there development. Maybe it’s lead poisoning.

I love (Maryland) and Virginia and I was born in Baltimore in 1960. I had a great childhood in Baltimore back in the 60s and 70s and I still love the place where I was born . I agree many parts of the city has changed. There are still nice corners of Baltimore and most have moved to Baltimore county. My mom moved us to PG County in 72 which was worst than Baltimore at the time. I lived in Randallstown , Md in Baltimore county in the late 70’s. I don’t think l would have graduated in PG county. I am now in Howard county and I do visit Baltimore mostly for sports games, concerts and restaurants and church. Baltimore still has Value no matter what you think , God still loves Md including Baltimore because it is the richest state in the union despite its reputation. God made Md the engine of this entire country because most of us are hard workers and we spend money to keep the economy going. Thank you Jesus for blessing Md even though others don’t see it

Hmm, most of the ppl that share info with you don't live in the area, heard from someone else, watch the Wire..and are too afraid to even leave Zootopia(the best areas the government focus on where most taxpayers money is being spent and the biggest reason crime is so bad when you take away the resources). They stay in the rural area. Also statistics can be fabricated documents aren't legit...and Ocean City/Salisbury isn't that bad...someone who's not use to seeing something see something one time and say "Oh my it's bad here!" This whole video is someone just mocking a state and never lived here....I drive Lyft and 90% of ppl who lived here really don't know anything outside of the rural area they live. Man get the hell out of here with that bogus claim..nothing to do..but everyone is coming here every day. You sound foolish for real...

@@renlynn555 pretty sure Chicago holds that moniker now. Too many people base Baltimore off of The Wire, which granted, has its truthful moments. But Baltimore is by far not the worst place to live in Maryland. There are gangs in every city and town, no matter the level of wealth/poverty or safety in the area. I own about 40 different rental properties across the city, it’s truly block by block.

Hi Nick, I love your channel, it’s a way of looking at the real US rather than the touristy bits. I just wanted to say my son left school with no qualifications due to illness. He got himself a little better, and got his first job being a waiter in a country hotel. He then went on to a better job, and was finally made a manager. Then Covid came and he was furloughed, he got a job cleaning doors, desks, lifts, etc at a good company. He worked six days a week, for twelve weeks. At the end of it, he was noticed by the managers, as he would always be polite to everyone, do a good job, and was always smart. He now has a full time job, with good money, and bought his dream car with his savings. I just wanted to say if you have parents that care about their kids, and children that don’t mind cleaning, and working your way up. There are job opportunities out there. People are just so lazy and can’t be bothered.

They moved a few for-profit prisons in here and everything went downhill after that. People are calling Cumberland little Baltimore because its getting rougher by the day. BUT as long as you stay out of the rough spots you’re good. Also, you only showed street-view pictures of Goethe St and Baltimore St which literally intersect in a bad area of town. as a native Baltimorean I can honestly say it was a great city in which to be raised and to pursue good jobs. sadly, when I bought (and sold a condo in 2005) in East Baltimore 30 years ago things on the decline were becoming more apparent. I changed my zip code in 2001 2 months after the 9/11 attacks and it couldn't have been a quieter time to move because the whole country was in a state of shock. as time progressed the vitality of waterfront living complete with good neighbors took hold and I have been here in A.A. County ever since. retirement goals include a move to a tax friendlier location. for now the cost of living here is quite manageable. buying another home in MD, however, not on my radar. I have lived in: 1960s Upper Marlboro 1970s Rockville 1980s Laurel (currently) All have been excellent places to live with the initial small-town appeal. Time has caught up with all of them becoming a bit heavy on suburban expansions to actual city-like motif. There is one advantage most local areas in Maryland have due to modern transportation systems. I can travel by car, train or bus and in a few hours reach: Baltimore Washington DC Annapolis Richmond (and points south) Philadelphia Pittsburgh New York (and points north) Columbus O (and points west) Several National Parks Many Battlefield and Historical Sites Regards

In Baltimore, according to one Baltimore city police officer told me, 1 in 3 don't have car insurance. Also, until recently, the squeegee adults were harassing the patrons who work, dine, and enjoy some of the hot spot areas. Due to the mayor being soft on crime, the rating for Brandon Scott is awful. My family worries every time I go into the city. The police commissioner is a complete joke and too soft on those committing violent crimes.

I'm 37 and lived here all my life except for 4 years I lived in Philly where I was in a boxing school. Tamaqua is an old-skool mining town, there's alot of bars, diners and usual small town things. There's tons of jobs in the industrial park 8 miles up the road. Routes 309 and 209 cross here so it's easy to get to Allentown, Reading, Wilkes-Barre, Pottsville, Hazelton and Scranton. I've been all over PA many times and this area is the easiest place to live. You can live like a king here if you make 15.00/hr or more. I make around 28.00/hr cash and I love it here...

I was born and raised in MD, MC/PG. It has it's rough spots no different than any other state. It was a small southern state, rich with southern culture and charm with great opportunities being so close to DC. Those who question our culture are the problem. MD is now filled with people who were not born and raised southern. They are implants from the different administrations and military implants from all over the country. They don't say good morning, introduce themselves when they move into your neighborhood, etc.. And for those who stay clear of PG county, check out the avg home price, earned income, education level. They are tops in the country and I'm sure are all higher than where it's critics live. And if you don't love Old Bay, you have issues.

It's easy to blame victims for the results of these issues because they're the ones left holding the bag. It's as if people think, yes I will wake up one day and decide to be an unemployed, undereducated, murderer, rapist, junkie thief. But it's funny how with the building of the super highways, white flight, moving jobs out of the cities and out of the country, and finding these mountainous and beach covered Utopias that they have become the crap holes that that they have left behind. Ocean City is not dangerous. The stats are misleading. The year round population is only 7 thousand, yet, millions visit there. That skews the crime rate. Ocean City has many years without a single murdered. How many cities can say that? Many people retire there.

Lmfaooo the old bay song got me dying! I was born and raised in New York when I moved here to Maryland on 2015 I remember going to a pizzeria ordered fries and they asked me if I wanted old bay on them. I was like what in the world is that. Tbh never cared for old bay till I moved to MD 😂😂. Marylanders literally put old bay on anything!

After seeing your other video about Baltimore, I just HAD to see this video. After all how could Baltimore not be on this list? Clocking in at #1 naturally, in Maryland what could be worse, eh? Oh right, Washington, but thankfully even though mostly on our side of the river, they are their own enclave. Good chuckle again on Baltimore, of course, some common footage too. At about 12 min, you're cruising north on Pennsylvania ave, and at North ave, on the left is the Tickner building on the corner. My old neighborhood! The Frederick Tickner funeral home used to one of Baltimore's most eminent. Shame they aren't around anymore, business would be booming. Standing Bmore joke used to be asking "Ready for Freddy?", meaning Freddy Tickner of course. Now believe it or not, 70 years ago that WAS a nice neighborhood. Sad just sad.

Yes, 70 years ago it WAS nice....now crap. Just down from your neighborhood was where my dad started working at 1515 E. North Avenue, in what was a renovated 3-story townhome with additions on the rear. (A. J. Buck & Son veterinary supplies) I remember visiting there once or twice when I was a young boy. My parents and sister are now buried in New Cathedral Cemetery - I doubt if I'll ever see their grave again....too dangerous of an area. Now that all of my relatives from Baltimore are deceased, there is just no reason to visit my childhood stomping grounds...it has changed so much for the worse. As you said, "Sad..just sad..." Ocean City is just an entirely different place from 60 years ago as well. Once a quaint little shore town, now "Fort Lauderdale North". I'll probably never visit there again as well. I was born and raised in baltimore county but left the state in 1989. Many of these areas were desirable when I was young. Its shameful what the democrats have done to the state. Social programs established for the masses have made people lazy and dependent on government handouts.

All, if not most of these places are just poor, there's nothing wrong with being poor if you come by it honestly. This is coming from someone who's parents were dirt poor in small towns in Iowa and South Dakota. Now as someone who lives in Maryland, and has been spending a lot of time exploring the state outside of the major metropolitan areas (Baltimore and DC on the PG and MoCo sides) the idea of Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore housing the "worst" places in the state to live doesn't really stack up based on someone's subjective idea of what a bad place can be. Every city, town, neighborhood has drugs, crime, etc. But it all depends on what you want out of your area or out of life. Cities like Cumberland, Salisbury, Hagerstown and Cambridge have basically been all but forgotten by those that live in the Capitol Region, so of course you're going to see drugs and property crime. However, those only really happen in places where you can clearly see you shouldn't be there without a reason; like the public housing area in Cumberland outside of the main street, or like the obviously impoverished areas of Salisbury near the university. The only way I can see these places really being a bad thing is that there isn't a lot for people raised in metro areas to do, not a lot of clubs or nightlife spots to go to; this can lead people to things like drug use or breaking windows for the hell of it. However, this can be few and far between from what I've experienced in my travels, since I go to Cambridge almost every weekend to go fishing and to bowl and interact with the people in the area (who are some of the nicest people I've met in the state next to places like Pocomoke, Crisfield, or deep out west like in Oakland or Kitzmiller) and I have had no issues in any part of the city. The same can be said for Cumberland (which I go to on occasion to bowl and just walk around). However, since I live in Anne Arundel County, with Baltimore City just a "skip and a hop" away from me, it really says something about the state of that city when I'm more willing to drive 3-4 hours away from my house just to go do something and get away from Baltimore. Not that the whole city is bad, because again, it's based on your life experiences and how you treat people; but Baltimore is just so. . . . depressing for a big city. I've met some great people out of the roughest parts of that city (Park Heights, Sandtown-Winchester, Cherry Hill, etc.) and even they try to get away as fast as possible. Not just because those areas are poor, but because Baltimore has one of the highest per capita murder rates in the country and these people don't want to be statistics in a city that doesn't care about them. I guess the whole point of this is that places like Cumberland, Hagerstown, Cambridge, Elkton, etc. are just poor, and there's nothing wrong with being poor especially when you consider that the counties these cities are in are neglected by the state. However, the same can be said for the neighborhoods in the big cities, since the state loves investing money away from where it's needed the most.
