The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.

What saddens me the most about Walt Frazier being forgotten was that he is easily a top 5 point guard but because of the insane competition since his playing day and his relatively unimpressive box stats you almost never see him even in the top 10!

I’m a Knicks fan and I love Clyde but he’s not a top 5 PG. Magic, Curry, Isiah, Oscar, and Nash are better. Definitely an argument for top 10 tho

@@chrilpy I appreciate the honesty. For me it comes down to preference in regards to Point Guard. While I think Steph is a better all time player and especially a better scorer I would say Clyde is a better point guard because of how Steph's playstyle transcends position. I like to think of Walt Frazier alongside Oscar Robertson as a prototype for Point Guards like Isiah who can dominate by dropping 30pts 4ast or 8pts 16ast. I don't have a static top 5 point guards and I am always open to changing it but I would go with: Magic > Isiah > Oscar > Frazier > Kidd (My subconscious just greatly prefers Kidd over Nash) I also would have put West in there but he runs into the same situation of Curry where his playstyle transcends position and feels very hard to rank.

That game was in a Magic Johnson DVD set a while back. It seemed to be only there because of the way Magic celebrated the win, jumping around and smiling like they'd just won the championship, while Kareem and everybody else were like, dude, it's only the first game of the season. But World B. Free was what really made in impression on me in that one. He was a MONSTER.

Love the concept for this series. These are the videos that I link to my young nephews. Fin, Clyde, Franchise, Free, Gilmore, Goodrich, Greer, and Griffith are forgotten legends. Thanks for reminding me of Gordon and Granger. We all tend to forget.... To be included in this series: I think you've already done a video on George Mikan.... and as the first GOAT candidate could he really be underrated? Does he pass the eye test? YES and no. On accolades alone, he is by far the most underrated player in NBA history. You recently did a video on AC Green.... I love AC! Other players include Bob Freaking Lanier, Bob McAdoo and Spencer Haywood, Austin Carr, Bill Laimbeer, Bill Sharman and Sam Jones, heck... even KC Jones, Chris Webber (I don't like him, but he was a monster! I feel the same way about Rasheed Wallace.), Lou Hudson and Bob Pettit, Dolph Schayes (was NBA all time leading scorer for five minutes, iirc), Glenn Rice, Vlade Divac (I love Vlade), Horace Grant, Andrew Toney, Avery Johnson (defined tenacity in SA before Manu), Downtown Freddy Brown, Jeff Ruland, Cedric Maxwell, the Paxson brothers, the Grant brothers, the Van Arsdale brothers, the Wilkins brothers, the King brothers... and look at the 1981 Draft, after Thomas you get Aguirre, Williams, Woolridge, Johnson, Chambers, Blackman, King, Tripucka, Nance, Ainge, and a ton of contributors! I watched Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals between Houston and New York recently. Sam Cassell as a rookie impressed me, and I remember how good he was later in his career. It seems criminal that he only made one All-Star Team!

Just wanted to say that I thought I had been paying homage to the older generations by watching highlights. It was you that motivated me to start watching full games from back in the day. Born in ‘01, currently watching a 1993 Orlando Magic, Chicago bulls game from start to finish. I think it would be really cool if you made a video on Scott Skiles. I’ve been looking for his Orlando Magic highlights, but there are only a select few on KZbin, aside from his 30 assist game.

This has nothing to do with his career, but i love Griffith just because, in a 2K simulation with the Kings last year, he helped my team winning a championship when he was 35, 74 overall, averaging 13 points in 10 minutes during playoffs...I'll never forget him💜

I gotta nominate Buck Williams for this list. A monster on the glass who played hard physical defense but still could occasionally show some finesse at the rim too. Plus he had one of the greatest Nike posters ever on the one he did with Terry Porter and Jerome Kersey (RIP).

Awesome video, Jonny! This video brought some nostalgia for me. I remember Francis and Finley and having watching them in the 2000s (especially when Francis and Yao played together and Finley in both his days in Dallas and San Antonio). It was great learning about Frazier, Free, Gilmore, Goodrich, and Greer too. I heard of them, but did not know much, so it was awesome to learn more from your video. It annoys me also how some fans see 80s NBA players as "plumbers". It's ridiculous and your example of Griffith is excellent. This is a fun series. A guy who could've made this video is Harvey Grant. We all remember Horace Grant from the first Bulls 3-Peat, playing with Shaq and Penny in Orlando and then was a role player on the 2001 Lakers. His identical twin Harvey, Jeramy's dad averaged 18 points per game a few times.

Guy Rodgers would be a good one. Probably the second best facilitator of the 1960s, 2x assist champion (regularly finished just behind Big O), 4x all-star, and one of Chamberlain's best forgotten teammates.

From someone from Cleveland: Brad Daughrety (not on your D list) and Larry Nance. Brad was a future HoF Center who arguably should be in just based on his stats, but back injuries in his 20s ended his career. Larry Nance is known for winning the first dunk contest over Dr. J, but he was a really good defensive player, and during his career held the record for most blocks by a Power Forward across their career.

Calvin Murphy is a 5’9 Hall of Famer who isnt talked about as much. He averaged 25, 5, 3 per game in his best statistical season while also being named an All-Star. Thats pretty impressive for only being 5’9

As a Bulls fan i really always want to push recognition of Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, and Kirk Hinrich. They were studs whose careers kind of took downturns prematurely. They were the reason the Bulls became competitive but they were shipped off one by one in order to try to make room for a star free agent that never came. Had they stayed together with Rose the bulls might have had a legit shot to win something. Instead they all kind of got screwed and were not utilized the way they should have been.

As I recall Michael Finley did a solid defensive job on Jordan in Suns vs. Bulls, February 6, 1996. Finley fouled out and got pretty frustrated about it, but Jordan only shot 9 for 22 that game, and the Suns (despite having an off year and finishing 41-41) were one of the few teams to beat the Bulls that season. (And because I can't resist pointing this out, Rodman got 6 points and 14 rebounds that game. Barkley got 35 and 16.) Andrew Toney should absolutely make this list.

Oh man Artis Gilmore is the nicest guy in the world if you meet him off the floor. But my dad played volleyball against him at a BBQ for Spurs fans in the 80s and took a couple of spikes off the face going against him haha. If he's that competitive in a friendly volleyball game can't imagine how nasty he'd be to go against in an NBA game.
