Hey Jodi I have a question, while you are volunteering in the peace corp do they ever give you guys time off to explore the country you are in? If so, for how long?

@@jodimiddendorf How big of an influence does GPA have on getting in? I'm a junior in college right now and have a lot of work experience and a ton of community service experience, I'm just concerned they'll look at my GPA of 2.2 and immediately disqualify me.

Hi Jodi, I really loved your videos. I didn't know much about the Peace Corp until someone from my Ex-patriot group mentioned it. Question. Did you come across any older volunteers, like 50+. I'm part of that age group. Thanks in advance for your response.
@jodimiddendorf2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The oldest volunteer in Madagascar while I was there was in her 70s. There were a few volunteers in 60s, a few in their 50s and so on. Most Volunteers were in their 20s. I was of course one of those volunteers; I joined Peace Corps right after college. I much appreciated the insight, and company of the volunteers that were more mature than myself.

After your service was over, how long did it take you to get readjusted
@jodimiddendorf4 жыл бұрын
I have been home about 7 months at this point. I still feel like I am readjusting. It’s a long process, but I’m starting to think I’ll never really feel readjusted. I’m dying to go back and visit Madagascar though!

Would you recommend going to PC after getting bachelors or after grad school? Would love to personally reach out and talk to you more about it!
@jodimiddendorf4 жыл бұрын
Nancy Yang It depends so much! Some masters degrees want you to have experience in a related field before starting. So then you could try to find a Peace Corps Program that will give you the experience you need! Look into a few masters programs that you’re interested in. See what they want you to have before starting. What are their requirements? Maybe even reach out to someone at the school you’re interested in and ask them their opinion. Also keep in mind that after doing the Peace Corps you get access to the Coverdell Fellows for financial help with masters programs if you get accepted!

@@jodimiddendorf Tanzania is my first choice. Madagascar is my second. But I am more concerned about time more than anything. I’d like to leave shortly after I graduate and if my first two option will not be available then I’d have to go with something different.

Is there anyway to apply to the peacecorp in person? Or is it all online?
@jodimiddendorf3 жыл бұрын
You apply online and then there is an interview that is typically done via video. You can see if there is a Peace Corps recruiter in your area also! They can be an in-person contact. They are not going to be able to offer jobs though. I hope this is helpful!

The "peace corps" sounds like a government "Pity wagon". If your a kid that graduated high school & are looking to find there way it seems like a good idea or there parents have money that they can support them while they " journey the countryside" while people in real life in the united states have houses, property, bills, etc. This is very interesting & as a accomplished fabricator welder, I cannot tell my bank or creditors, Yall hold your horses for 2 years while I go teach people in a 3rd world country the newest techniques & technologies of welding applications. Yall don't foreclose on my house, welding shop & property now. I'm off to do some good! lol! The real world doesn't work that way.
@jodimiddendorf2 күн бұрын
It does work if you plan for it and make it happen. There were people who sold their houses or rented them while they were gone.

What was some of the hardest things that you faced in your opinion? and did it help you find what you wanted your career path to be?
@jodimiddendorf4 жыл бұрын
Hello! I think the hardest things were being exhausted from interacting with everyone. I am extroverted and loved the people, so it was hard at first when I was learning the language and culture. I wanted to say everything well and act in a respectful manner, but that takes a lot of energy. That gets easier though, and everyone in Madagascar was super patient with my language and my different habits and cultural norms. It helped me a lot with knowing what I want from my future, not just my career. I hope this helps!
