Great tips! We rotate our olders ones with the younger ones. This ensures special sibling and one on one time with the little ones PLUS helps Momma to be available for the other children!

This is Great! Thank you so much! Our 4 kiddos are the exact same ages as yours ❤ Fall 2021 will be our 1st year homeschooling and multiple grades and levels of learning was my biggest fear.

It can feel intimidating and some days are more smooth than others, but it is totally doable! I remind myself that the student to teach ratio in our home is much small than a brick and mortar school. 😉 I hope you all have a wonderful school year!

When rotating older siblings with younger (oldest to youngest than middle to middle kids is best) ensure its only for 15-20 minutes. I also sit the reader kids beside the non readers so they can quickly help with a question on a task for each other. I use visual dividers (tall books lol) when they need to work quietly undisturbed and quite often with headphones and mind mend music playing the background-the productive work music, or other instrumental music. I try to keep the littles at the table while teaching the oldest because its easier to supervise and keep fights from breaking out when they are within arms reach. Playdough and other sensory play (water colour paints) are great for younger kids WHILE the oldest need help with tough math questions or time to wrap up their more elaborate projects. Unit studies are wonderful, recently we were studying ancient egyptian life. The older (gr 4 &6) were writing reports on an ethical question about hippos. The younger 2 (prek, K) learned all about hippos, dictated 3-5 facts they learned, they printed a key word for each fact sentence and coloured a picture of a hippo. Big hit. :) Some days are smooth, others are bumpy, eventually we all get there.

I have a 10, 8, 5 and 2. For language and math I work one on one , while the rest keep the 2 year old from getting into things 😆

This is great! During your morning time do you do a little bit of each family subjects (history, science etc) or have specific days for to focus on those separately?
@CalledtoCultivate Жыл бұрын
Currently we alternate days for science and history. Generally we do Science Mon/Wed and History Tue/Thur. 🤗 I’ve done it where we’ve done a little bit of both everyday, but I prefer having them on alternating days.

I have 4 kids similar ages to yours, we currently cyber school our kids and would love to switch to homeschooling but I’m so nervous. You seem to have figured out a good method. Can I ask… when you say Units that you do with multiple kids do you use something that helps you plan them or do you plan them yourself? I guess my biggest concern is planning, how much do I have to plan myself, I’m worried about my ability to do it. Oh and juggling 4 kids lol
@CalledtoCultivate2 жыл бұрын
You could certainly plan your own unit studies from scratch. Like if you chose dinosaurs; then get library books, shows, coloring sheets, and crafts to go along with what you’re learning. But many curriculum companies have unit studies pre planned and ready for you to use with kids of various ages. Two companies that come to mind are The Good and the Beautiful and Gather Round Homeschool. I don’t currently use any short unit studies, but I do teach the same history and science curriculum to all the kids. I have a general idea how long it will take to complete it in a year and then I do what’s called “reverse planning”. Basically I write down what we accomplish each day as a means of record keeping, so I don’t need to create lesson plans in advance. I hope that helps! 🤗

Hey Nena, it does feel a bit unnerving getting started homeschooling. I’d recommend you visit the HSLDA to see what the laws are for homeschooling where you live. hslda.org/legal From there the options vary widely. Let me share my playlist of videos that has several for new homeschoolers. That might help you learn about homeschool approaches and types of curriculum. kzbin.info/aero/PLNmeoBEWBlLWNHuWveR9F60JbVlpiLdbu

💯 Relearning things with them for the pure enjoyment of learning without the pressure of performing for a test, that’s one of my favorite parts of homeschooling. 🤗
